Outdrives?

The outdrives on my B4 are absolutely battered so I need some new ones, do I get the factory team ones or the standard ones?

ashleyb4 16-04-2007 06:05 PM

Chrislong 16-04-2007 06:13 PM

NeilD 16-04-2007 06:25 PM

They probably taste better than Ryvita.:)

My first Factory team outdrives were the first of the light ones, and they were very very badly worn after one race meeting.... So bad the wheel would rock 1/4 turn each way, and suspension lock solid on throttle.

After that I went standard, but I did get a new set of Factory team outdrives when I first built my X-6, and they were the improved version (the ones without holes), and they lasted 2 test days and the national at Batley before they were bin fodder.

Standard outdrives I can make last a lot longer.

Soooo, Standard Outdrives.

ashleyb4 16-04-2007 06:44 PM

Mine are over a year old now and are used everyweek and they are fine.

Only for a couple of minutes though ash:D

Chrislong 16-04-2007 06:52 PM

Ash, just to remind you that you have been using a 19turn stock for ages, so there is less force going through your outdrive. ;)

PaulRotheram 16-04-2007 07:01 PM

haha, the FT outdrives wouldnt of took the speed my 10 was putting out on saturday, that thing was quick!

dan_kitty 16-04-2007 07:16 PM

I once made the mistake of buying titanium gpm outdrives, lasted about 2 runs, then put the standard ones back in which are still going strong

Richard Lowe 16-04-2007 07:35 PM

The new FT outdrives without the holes are fine, it was only the early ones that weren't hardened properly that were poo. For me they have been just as durable as the standard ones and I don't run 19t motors ;)

ashleyb4 16-04-2007 09:08 PM

Also if they only last 2 meetings i ran a 10x1 at indoor finals i then ran a 10x1 at oswestry BCL so thats to meetings and still emaculate. dont know what your all moaning about.

My FT ones lasted three months before the straight slots turned into right angled slots.. those bad boys will break your drive shafts... I think Cliff Lett was havin a laugh...

Imagine if we had plastic outdrives we would be changindthem every run. haha

Richard Lowe 16-04-2007 10:09 PM

The Losi boys use composite outdrives sometimes and they last fine, although they are bigger diameter so less stress on them.

Nah, they're quite robust.

Academy outdrives, now they're soft, im suprised they don't spark they wear so fast... or they did on the SB mk1.

Thanks for the replies, think the unanimous decision is to go with the standard ones, got them on order to will hopefully arrive in time for the regional.

At Bury on Sunday the existing ones are that bad the drive shaft kept popping out (every run)!!

mattym0310 17-04-2007 05:11 PM

yeah, wayne it looked apsolutely awful! after using kirkys losi did you still prefer the b4?? [with newer outdrives :D]

If Im honest, i did really like the losi. It seems much more predictable over the bumpy sections of the track, the car I drove lacked steering but overall I was pretty impressed.

It was quite difficult to tell if I preferred the losi to the B4 as I didnt get that much track time with my car, but I really fancy a few more go's with it to get a better opinion.

Hmmm, should I stick with the B4 or go to Losi, im not sure.

What was weird was how massively different Craigs car felt to Kirkys. Admitadly the setups were totally different, but I dont think I you could make 2 B4s with vastly different setups feel that much different to one another. The Losi's setup I think would take much more fine tuning at each track to get it consistently competative, whereas the B4 the setup is virtually the same for most tracks

mattym0310 17-04-2007 07:10 PM

i must say, when i saw you with the losi, it looked so forgiving. sometimes [no offence btw] it looked like you were about to roll after that jump jus past the banked corner but some how u managed to stay on your wheels lol. :D
i think you drove better with your b4, maybe its cos u have driven it so much more? i dont know

good luck with your new outdrives :o.
