I may be missing this, but couldn't see Lipos on the homologation lists, seems a bit strange??

Darren Boyle 24-08-2009 03:37 PM

From what I understand LIPO is not allowed at the worlds this year which is another reason why many are not attending I guess.......

stegger 24-08-2009 03:39 PM

Your right fella no lipo's, hense why there dosn't appear to be much interest in the worlds this year or are there other reasons ?

peetbee 24-08-2009 03:49 PM

Oh good, I'm not going mad then, thanks guys!
Does seem very strange though, if EFRA and ROAR have legalised them then you'd have thought IFMAR would have kept up.
I've been wondering about the lack of interest too.

Lee 24-08-2009 04:02 PM

I think people are more scared of dieing, and i don't mean because of nimhs exploding

Pretoria is one of the worlds most dangerous cities.

It ranks along side sunderland and bilbao :woot:

DCM 24-08-2009 04:03 PM

South Africa isn't known to be the safest of places, either, that may have another reason, as I am sure, the big teams would field international drivers, lipo or not.

How was it in 2002 ?

Lee 24-08-2009 04:52 PM

People did get mugged just as they came out of the airport

Another thing i found out was if this years worlds was void (cancelled) it goes back to the same place next time

When will they learn

I dont think they will get more than 30 people. Kecky could go and get a better result at the worlds than he did at a club night

stegger 24-08-2009 05:19 PM

:lol::lol::lol:

Alfonzo 24-08-2009 08:23 PM

I've spent lots of time in South Africa over the years. I've felt more threatened in some British cities TBH. I've certainly had some interesting moments in Manchester

It's a shame more people aren't looking to go to SA, 'cause it's proper ace. At least, that's what the SA Tourism Board asked me to say

Jokes apart - the place rocks.

bigred5765 24-08-2009 10:40 PM

But did you get robbed between the airport and the car hire place at gun point, and lose all your racing gear,

MikePimlott 24-08-2009 11:13 PM

Ive worked in Durban, and i was told buy the guide who took me to my job if i walked down the wrong street my testicles would be in a soup.

Nehpets 24-08-2009 11:27 PM

There are a few Australians over in SA for a 1/8 offroad race and they're loving it over there, they went over and checked out the worlds venue and cant understand why people aren't going for safety reasons...

After racing here again it still amazes me why IFMAR and American manufactures are "scared" to race here....it is just like racing in Australia..

Those who choose not to go for whatever reason will have to sit back and watch a pair of new World Champions be crowned. I think the SA guys will put on a great championships and I can't wait to see some racing - some big names missing or not.

In Manchester? No, it was at knifepoint.

Nahh, only kidding of course. I know SA has crime problems in certain areas, but by and large it's an amazing country.

Fabs 25-08-2009 07:26 AM

I think this venue is a TRAP :p

No wonder people aren't willing to go

Mielie 25-08-2009 08:35 AM

It is always easy to make dumb comments about a country if you haven't visited it yourself.

The British & Irish Lions toured South Africa a few months ago. I was at the test at Loftus that is in Pretoria, not to far from the venue for the Worlds. There were more B & I Lions supporters than South Africans, and there were now incidents!!!! I think more than a 100 000 supporters made the trip to SA and all had a wonderfull time.

We are looking forward to welcoming the drivers that will make the trip and I can guarantee you they will have wonderfull memories to take back to their countries.

bbq 25-08-2009 08:42 AM

This world is just bad for 1:10 buggy.
With big names not showing up its just bad PR for
the class. It gives ā fealing that 1:10 is not that important

no good

Belsten 25-08-2009 09:44 AM

Im surprised its still going ahead bearing in mind how few entries there are

jimmy 25-08-2009 09:53 AM

Do they usually publish a drivers list by now?

Belsten 25-08-2009 09:54 AM

It would certainly be interesting reading if there is one

Foppa 25-08-2009 10:17 AM

Among other relatives, my Aunt and Uncle have lived in SA for over 40 years, and I think its more a case of altering your attitude to keep youself safe. Its a very beautiful country, but like anywhere it has its problems.
If you go there and continue to walk around in the same way as at home, you are more likely to become a target. Things such as if someone steps out in the road in front of your car here, you step on the brakes, over there I am advised you should step on the accelerator:wtf:
I guess anyone making the trip and taking sensible precautions will be just fine;)

That has got to change soon, hopefully

jimmy 25-08-2009 10:27 AM

Naoto MatSukura is a warrior as well, and Jorn is a past Euro Champ.

Alfonzo 25-08-2009 10:33 AM

NO British drivers?? WTF? Get it together ladies

Disagree fella, Cyrille Baldini finished 18th 2wd and 21st 4wd, Jörn Neumann 7th 2wd and 9th 4wd at the recent euro's ;)

bbq 25-08-2009 10:43 AM

Looks like yokomo will have a title this year =)
i put my money on a B4 and a B-Max to win the worlds

jimmy 25-08-2009 10:48 AM

Looks that way - the way I look at it is if you don't go, you can't complain.

I feared this would be some sort of club meeting - but I'd travel half way round the world to attend a club meeting with the level of drivers here

Lee 25-08-2009 10:59 AM

It probably wont alter much either, people value their lives, i have been a few times and its a beautiful place but it is dangerous, its not great if you feel you cant behave as you do at home. I don't like going to countries where i fear for my life constantly, it sort of detracts from the scenery

My money is on Jarb Ratananrat to make the top 30, he is a god amongst the rats, he is so good they named him twice!!

jimmy 25-08-2009 11:02 AM

Lee who regularly flies to Afghanistan and gets escorted home in a bag by Mi5 agents.

Alfonzo 25-08-2009 11:09 AM

Fear for your life constantly? Jeezzz, where abouts in SA were you hanging out? Differrent bit to me, that's for sure
