Tim,

He's talking about the 1/10th piston not 1/8th.....

MALLET 19-08-2009 07:29 PM

Aye,I knew he was I was just going to let him know what they are like in an 1/8th as well as someone else with a 1/10

westie 19-08-2009 08:37 PM

Funky :)

GRIFF55 19-08-2009 08:43 PM

these do look nice, might have to aquire some;)

Lee Martin 20-08-2009 08:04 AM

The 8th Pistons are already awesome! we use them all the time without fail!

So the opposite theory to real rally car dampers, which are stiffer in rebound by a ratio of as much as 3:1. Has anyone tried them the other way up?

i think that may be because real rally cars dont jump 10-20 times there own hight and same in distance lap after lap,

PTRU 20-08-2009 07:46 PM

Yes.

Lee Martin 20-08-2009 10:05 PM

All depends how the shocks work...real cars pistons wont have a gap around the outside..whereas AE shocks have a small gap, so this forces the oil around the shock piston causing it to rebound faster! ;-)

I think you are saying that, in scale terms, 1/10 off road dampers experience higher forces than a full size rally car, when jumping.

If you are bored at lunchtime try working this out;

1) Kinetic energy of a 1.6kg 1/10 off road car just before hitting the ground from a jump 20 times the cars height.
2) Kinetic energy of a 1500kg WRC car just before hitting the ground from a jump 2 or 3 times its height (Rally New Zealand). ;)

AlisdairO 04-09-2009 09:39 AM

So what's the verdict on these? What sort of surfaces do they give you a particular benefit on - the bumpy ones, or large jumps?

ex-sco77morgan 04-09-2009 09:54 AM

I reckon they are really good got them in my Losi shocks which where already great but now feel even smoother ......

Lee Martin 04-09-2009 12:35 PM

bumpy pitter patter tracks you will feel most advantages

flipside 05-09-2009 08:48 AM

I believe they are best at bumpy, medium to high grip tracks that also have large jumps, like the euro's in bilbao.

The chamfered side makes the shocks rebound faster, but the pack when landing from jumps is the same. So you can keep smaller hole pistons on bumpy tracks. You get the best of both worlds: good landing from the big jumps, and good handling in the bumps because the rebound is fast, so wheels keep contact with the ground.

I really felt the difference in bilbao, the car was a lot better at the complete banked section, from right after the quad all the way down to the dirt section.

But for me the inserts were the biggest difference in Bilbao. After 6 free practises, 2 timed practice and 3 heats full of mistakes, I took the rymart inserts and drove 2 flawless heats, resulting in a 13 and 19th place, compared to the 30-40th place before!!!

Im interested in trying some in my 808, sound a great idea. Is it Ghea3090 that fit the 808?

Toņo 15-09-2009 10:15 AM

But can I rely in rymart racing ??? I've ordered them some ghea products in May and I have no news, no money, no items and they don't reply to my emails. Why ???

Nick 15-09-2009 10:31 AM

ghea pistons

I order a load of Ghea stuff for my B4 (pistons back block and bulkhead) and all came through fine! Ps the pistons work great to!

Nick 15-09-2009 10:33 AM

B44 setup worksop

Has anyone got setup for Worksop indoor for B4?

c0sie 15-09-2009 10:35 AM

Are you using the new magic Ghea pistons Nick?

RudeTony 15-09-2009 02:06 PM

I've done back to back testing on these and Lee they are very very good - I saw an improvement in the car and the way it handled the bumps - would recommend to anyone with an Associated car

dave g 15-09-2009 02:32 PM

lee do any of these fit the d8?

typical d8 piston is:

15.85mm diameter.
2.5mm thick.
center bore of 2.8mm.

the shock has a bore of 15.90mm

cheers
dave

U can try to email ghea.se directly

Lee Martin 21-09-2009 01:29 PM

Are you sure your emails have been sent correctly and when did you send each email?

Wraggy is normalyl super fast at responding without missing a email, let alone 2?

MiCk B. 21-09-2009 04:04 PM

Just want to share my experience with Ry-mart.

Before the off-road Euros in Spain, I sent them an email asking if they could bring some stuff with them.

Trackside at the Euros all I had ask for was there waiting for me.

So my experience with them has been top notch!!

MiCk B. :-)

Lee Martin 22-09-2009 09:43 AM

Hoping everythings sorted now. If anyone ever has any queries just pm myself or Wraggy on here as emails can sometimes be lost in the magic world of cyberspace!!!

And if it's over the weekend it's 99% likely we will both be racing, so emails will be replied to on Monday!

Many thanks

+1. These are now a permanent feature in all my cars.

xchange 02-03-2010 09:56 PM

they help you to drop down your lap time ?

And just a question, the losi piston 56 will help to drop down lap time or we can run fast with AE piston ?

gazhillAE 07-03-2010 07:09 PM

Wraggy, i know Lees not dealing with these anymore but just a couple of question for you!

Im using losi red pistons in x6, which associated pistons in the RMR range are closest to these????

Also ordered a Blue GHEA front brace on Thurs havnt recieved it yet not had any confirmation either have you got the order definetly, paid via papyapl as requested :p

One other thing, i need a pair of No2 and a pair of No1 pistons for the B44, could you do a set of 4 as above instead of 4 of each!

Gaz
