Pick ONE 4WD Buggy, What would it be???

i'm interested in knowing which 4wd buggy everyone would pick, if you could only pick ONE. try not to base it on what may come out or some prototype or what you heard is good from someone else, or what the best sponsored drivers in the world are having success with....i'm looking for first hand knowledge by average, non-factory, non-biased racers. also, pick just ONE....not one for smooth tracks, one for rough, etc etc....

mine would be team losi's XX-4 because it's what i know and it is belt driven, smooth, and works on about every kind of track surface...and parts are easy for us here in the states and it's really pretty easy to drive.

i do feel the XX-4 is becoming slightly dated and i do like the sealed drive train, but it is kind of a pain to take apart if i'm in a hurry between races, so that is why i'm interested in what you guys have to say. i'm considering the yokomo...i just like belts, but maybe you all will convince me otherwise...or maybe, i'll just keep going with the XX-4. thanks for reading this long post.

xx4 without a doubt!! ive had a go with a few different cars but nothing compares. Driven it mostly indoors so far and a couple of times outdoors and ive not had to change the setup once, it just works no matter what track you put it on. The weight distribution of the xx4 is perfect and the way it handles the bumps is superp. The car just goes wherever you point it, what more can you ask for? Really looking forward to the upcoming outdoor season with this car.

Tamiya Supershot. Best looking 4WD ever. Always wanted one but had a Falcon instead... you didnt say it had to be a current car or competitive...

zx5 for me. had my best results with it. reasonalbe price and very cheap spares also.

and now with matching 2wd!!

MattW 10-03-2007 10:27 PM

Yup, i'm with Jimmy on this one. Durango.

It's a true "racing" car, with so much attention to detail and thought. I've never understood why the guy builds them as he doesn't sell them any more, i think it must just to proove "that he can". Fair play i say.

S4! :D

Been running to XX4 indoors over the winter and I am biggining to think it does not suit suit my driving style as I have been doing pants. Maybe it will get better outdoors. Would like to try the BJ4 worlds one day.:)

Good post, will be interesting to see what people say, wev'e already had one slightly biased reply !
I'm not sponsored in any shape or form and race for fun, I buy all my own gear, so this is totally unbiased.

So, I reckon it depends on if you want to win, or enjoy yourself, and how much cash you've got ?

I've tried quite a few of the current 4wd buggies (Losi's / ZX-5 / Pred / BJ / BJ Worlds, just got a Slim 4 and only had the odd run with it...).
For me what matters is enjoying the racing and feeling like i've done my best. The only car that makes me smile at the end of a race is the Pred. When it's good it's just so responsive to drive, it's like I connect with what the car's doing so much more that the other buggies.

If I had to ditch all the other cars I'd keep the Pred, it's flawed on some tracks I know, but it's British, it's a very different design and it isn't another BJ clone, and when it's right, it's dialed. Roll on X11 ?

Why the hell do you use every other thread to plug stuff your 'selling' ? or the thing your working on that particular week, it's getting very tiring. I thought you were selling up, or is that importing US goods, or developing a buggy, no it's a touring car..... get the point ? By the way, didn't you read the initial post , none biased ?

Brett, nice car that, brings back memories.

For me it would be a Predator - Just the most innovative design we've seen in 1/10th off road for a long time, the way the suspension works and the benefits you get with the drive-train etc.

Always admired them from a distance, and then using it for one season got me my best result back in the day so still have (and probably always will have) a soft spot for them

Of the current cars : TRF501X. Easy to drive but o so fast. I personally compared it to the ZX5 (had one myself in 2006) and the XX4we.

4WD's of all time : Schumacher CAT2000EC. Used it for 5 years and it performed well everywhere, anytime and on any surface. Considering it's age : best 4WD ever.

It's another 'list what 4wd you run' thread :D

Every car has traits that suit certain people, the BJ4WE happens to suit me very well

Why the hell do YOU use every thread I post in to dig at me? You got a vendetta against me?

I am not selling up, I am just switching to been more prominent in offroad racing. I am importing US goods, however I will no longer be developing my OWN buggy, instead a UK edition of the one I am selling.

And biased wise, I am not biased, I will be criticizing this car strictly, and comparing it profusely alongside other current cars.

So maybe you decide to flame me next time, just re-read my posts, and consider things a little

;)

sorry, i'm with Andy on this one. the constant self promotion and mind changing does get a touch boring after a while.
And how can you recommend a car you haven't run or tested properly yet?

Medders 13-03-2007 01:40 PM

lets leave it there shall we ladies :D

4times 13-03-2007 01:59 PM

when i started this thread i was more interested in 4wd buggies that we could all walk into most hobby shops or online shops or even ebay and buy. not conversions in development or rare durango buggies that only 2 people in the whole planet have....which are probably factory drivers.

personally, i don't know how anyone could like or dislike a buggy like a durango or some new conversion prototype in regards to how it works over a race season, maybe a couple of factory guys or design engineers could comment (but remember, i excluded them)...i was just looking to see what the average club racer had to say.

anyway, thanks for all the replies....it's been interesting.
