How hot is your office?

It's currently 30 degrees in ours and zero fresh air flow, there are fans.. THe plan was to work in the server room today but the air con broke on the weekend and it was 55 degrees this morning.

DCM 29-06-2009 01:55 PM

Smartalec 29-06-2009 02:26 PM

35 degrees in my workroom, no windows, no fans........... and i've got to have a hot air gun going now for over two hours to finish this part of the job today ............ happy days

There is no legal max temperature at the moment. Unions have been trying to address this matter for a long time.

This is from 2005 refering to attempts made in 2002 to resolve the issue.
The TUC says nothing has changed since 2002 and its demands remain the same. Roasting offices cause a lack of concentration and nasty accidents, with slips and trips the major injury, it says. And prolonged concentration at a VDU in a heat wave will have workers stressed, tense, exhausted and probably suffering headaches and eye strain. It also warns that irritability raises the incidence of violence.
For those doing manual work, the thermal threats are said by the TUC to be even worse: fatigue, extra strain on the heart and lungs, dizziness and fainting, or heat cramps due to loss of water and salt. Hot, dry air can increase the risk of eye and throat infections, and breathing problems such as asthma and rhinitis.
TUC General Secretary Brendan Barber said today: "Employees should not have to suffer in sweat at work. There is a legal responsibility on employers to make their staff safe but this should be backed up with a legal limit on how much heat workers have to bear."
The TUC wants a maximum working temperature of 30oC (86oF) – and 27oC (81oF) for those doing strenuous work. When the heat hits the maximum, employers should reduce the temperature. It recommends fans or air conditioning. Workers whose exposure to heat cannot be reduced should be provided with adequate breaks and offered job rotation, it suggests.
Using the underlined ask for more fans if not hit the boss and blame it on the heat

mines barely 20! would be lower if the moaners didn't keep turning off the air con!

millzy 29-06-2009 03:52 PM

Scouser 29-06-2009 04:27 PM

Working from home has its' advantages. I have the patio doors open with a humidifying fan in the room just for good measure! Might go and get the sun lounger in a minute for a bit of r'n'r!!;)

Was a steady 8 in my van today. I hate offices.

Col 30-06-2009 07:44 PM

Wasn't happy today - temp in the van reached 10. Nearly had to take my jacket off.

NeilD 30-06-2009 07:45 PM

Was disgusted with it. I mean, 10 degree's! What's the world comin too when there's 3 air con units in 1 van and it still reaches double figures?!?

Ashley 30-06-2009 07:51 PM

Southwell 01-07-2009 07:14 AM

Gave up today and brought in my big air cooler and filled it up with iced water. :D

Welshy40 01-07-2009 07:18 AM

its 30 in my office, mind you I can go anytime I like when it gets too hot. Being the boss does have some advantages.:p

jimmy 01-07-2009 12:44 PM

its sweaty pig territory in here - we did have air con but it got upgraded at great cost and over many weeks. It got turned on and prompty burnt out the main wire coming into the building. oops!
So it's been left off for months now until we get a new bigger electricity wire coming across into the building. Joy.

What really adds to the fun is the sheep tannery place down the road - the lovely smell wafting in through the open windows. Yum.

Southwell 01-07-2009 01:06 PM

We've just tipped 30 degrees, im not too bad as i have two huge fans blowing just on me. The old computer chair isn't doing my back any favours though. Off to the server room and lovely 20 degrees for me. :D

Northy 01-07-2009 01:35 PM

It was starting to get a little warm here, so I turned the air conn up :woot:

Err nope ! Belive me there are some Corus plants still make some steel ! not down personally today but the norm next to the tundish and the finnished slabs is about the equivelent to what hell might be !!! plus you have to wear steel impregnated jackets and trousers boots hat glasses gloves. I walked through some areas and nearly passed out. Some of those welsh hardmen work in it ! Coming outside to 30 degrees is luvely and cool when stood next to a slab of metal still glowing at 900 degrees!

mpg200 01-07-2009 02:40 PM

28.8 according to my thermometer..Its OK but i wish the umpalumpas would turn there radio off:mad:
