Working set-ups?
Has anybody got remotely near something sensible set-up wise yet?
|
hi there simon, Nathan Ralls here using trekkers pc, we have been doing loads of racing of late ie up to 3 times a week to get good base set ups for most sufaces so give me a couple of weeks to finalise things and i will be able to post safe easy to drive setups for high and low grip tracks, if you are going to tivvy this weekend i can post what stuart and i will be starting with to give you a starting point.
cheers Nathan Ralls |

I fixed it, but.... uhmmm.. this is a setup sheet for the X-5 not the ZX-5 ! hey, confusing i know.
everyone likes the letters Z and X with a random number.. is there no originality left !!! :D |
no iknow it's an x-5 setup sheet but it is basic enough to be useful so i thought i'd pass it along so anyone that wanted to use it could :D

oops sorry i should have read your message better!
|
no worries just trying to help
|
I spoke to one of the KyoshoUSA drivers the other day and they all have ZX-5's and racing them. If they don't post a setup sheet soon, I'll try to get it. The setup will be for a US off-road track though, so it'll be different than what you guys may run in the UK.
Tony P. |
thanks tony it would be much apreciated, the set up above is for low grip rutty dirt so pass it on please
|
ran the zx5 on sunday at bury metro, wanted to keep running it as it was getting very good. Put the #75 yellow springs on the rear 35wt, and blue AE springs 40wt front.
short link on the front, short outside and middle inside link on the back raised with 2 washers on the camber plate. I didnt have the tyres to compete with the other guys in the rain though. |
I asked Mark Pavidas what setup he was running on the ZX-5, but he doesn't have the car back yet. Still waiting on setup info from two other US drivers, but here is what Mark posted on the S-grid ......

nice one tony!

Tony, I frequent the grid myself, but I can't find this thread about the ZX-5. Can you direct me to it? Thanks for posting the setup info though. Looks like I've got some springs to order. I wonder if Kyosho has fixed the short front spring problem yet?
|
if you go to the orion site and look in old news at the world champs report there are photo's of mark's car, you can see wot springs and camber links he used at the worlds, BUT remember that they had control tyres

On another note, there have been some rumors going around the Kyosho camp regarding Kortz, Cavaliere and Tebo, as well as the team manager, Regan Leblanc. From the sound of it, there may not be many factory boys racing the electrics :(. But rumors are rumors until they've been cleared by someone with the "know". I have to get in touch with Scott Cramer of MaxSpeedDesigns.com for more Tony's Screws decals. I know he has the ZX5 and was going to work on getting the car setup for the indoor tracks out there where he lives at (OH/IL). He also said that David Joor from Avid Bearings was running a ZX5. These two guys are hard core on-road guys that really know their stuff when it comes to setups. Hopefully they have the car figured out so I know what option parts to get for my ZX5 when I get it here in a few weeks. There is a HUGE Indoor race in Ohio in 3 weeks as well ...CRCRC The electrics are the first week and then Nitro the second. I'm going to the Nitro race to race my MBX5 and MSR X5T. But I look forward to some guys running the ZX5 for the electric series, posting their setups too. I just got an email from my buddy that he got in a few ZX5's. Killer price too! Just need to wait a week or so before ordering it (my wife would blow a gasket if I got it now after spending how much on X-mas ....lol  Best regards, Tony P. |
Tony,
I will be at the CRCRC electric race with my ZX-5..... I will post any set-up updates I have from it. The local track is a high traction clay also.... So, I will see what I can come up from it also.... |
Cool 8)
Thanks Tres! I just spoke to my buddy Leo and he just ordered a ZX-5 himself. He runs at the indoor track at Wolcott, CT. He said there are like five ZX-5's there now and catching on :). That's where I'm going to go to race my ZX-5 after I get back from the Gas Champs at CRCRC. If I can get some setup info from Leo or the guys there, I'll post it here. Ordered the ZX-5 last night from my buddy :D Now to find the best deal on the Novak brushless systems. If anyone know who has the best deal going, please post away ...lol  Tony P. |
Well just tryed Kyosho out tonite at oswestry but its on carpet :(
well anyway it went better than i expected its pettry much kit set up only things a changed was 50w front ass gold springs (cut down) kit pistons REAR i think it was round 35w ass slivers, Only other thing i changed was outer hole at bottom on front (much more stable) An what i am going to change for sunday, ABout 2mm limiters in rear shocks anit roll bar on rear and gunna try some smaller piston holes on front shocks and maybe move top shock in 1 hole on fronts. From there i a hoping that set up should not be too far away hopefully lol  Nick. |
Good luck mate, as soon as you get it sorted indoors we'll be back outdoors ! lol

Hey Tony, as you've probably noticed I've found the thread on the grid. I was supposed to take some pics of my electronics arrangement with the GTB setup inside the car, but I forgot to last night. I'll try to remember this evening. Oh, btw, Tower has a deal right now for 25$ off a 150$ or more purchase. That's about as cheap as you'll find the GTB+motor combo. As I mentioned on the grid, I've got the 6.5 system and it is blazing fast. Can't wait to see someone with the 5.5.
Hope you guys have fun at the CRCRC race. I really really really wanted to go, but I just don't have the time nor money to go to such a race. Columbus is about a 7-8 hour drive from St. Louis. It would have been nice to meet you and Tres in person. I'm sure sometime within the next year or so we'll end up at the same race. |

Got my ZX-5 yesterday :)
Decided on getting the Novak GTB 6.5 brushless setup for the car. I'm going to use my son's GP3300 packs in it for now until I can do a little more research on the LiPo options. Will probably pick up a few IB3800 packs for it as well but not in a rush just yet. I won't have time to build the car until after the CRCRC indoor nitro gas champs next week/weekend. Just have too much to do before leaving. I still have to put my MSR back together and haven't even touched the MBX5 yet. Looks like I'll be doing a lot of wrenching this weekend ...LOL Tony P. |
By the way ...What's the part number for the Associated balls that everyone is using?
Thanks, Tony P. |
I didn't get to run my ZX5 due to a
couple of the guys with me running them had lots of braking issues.... Practice was very hard on 4wheels. And ran out of spare parts. I didn't want to get stuck with out any part support. I ran my BJ4 instead..... But, I plan on running my ZX5 for a lot of testing in the next few weeks. The CRCRC track was a little different dirt and had a fine layer of dust on the top. New taper pins worked ok as did some other tires. But, the normal, wore out pink tapers did not hook up well. I should have the set-up from the guys who ran it this week. They only made a few basic changes for the most part. (camber length & top shock tower placement) |
I got back from CRCRC early yesterday morning. The 8-hour drive home in the rain sucked ....LOL
I had a good time. Didn't do that well in 1/8th scale but my MSR X5T was dialed with the new wide arm suspension. Unfortunately a computer glitch put me in the wrong main (should have been in the bottom of the C, top of the D) and it was too late to fix it. I had my hands full with the drivers in the F-main and missed the bump finishing 4th. Seven minutes wasn't long enough especially getting caught up in the first turn pile up and then waiting 10 seconds for a marshal later in the race :( Watching the Pros run was amazing though. Drake was blazing fast, as was Mayfield, Lutz, Ashton, Smolnik and Saxton. It was great meeting all these guys and hanging out with them. I was totally blown away with everyone's hospitality and kind words towards Tonys Screws. I learned a lot this past weekend running indoors and look forward to the upcoming off-road season more than ever :) The ZX-5 build should start this weekend. I just need to order a few option parts and my GTB system. Just waiting for Kendall Bennett of Amainhobbies to put everything up on his website. Tony P. |

hey guys.. sorry if this has been covered prior.. but im looking for a setup to run on our dusty / sandy tracks here in Sunny Ol Perth (Australia)
the track is a big track, with 2 straights and a few jumps. its a wide track. Surface can be a bit sandy if you go offline, otherwise, its a clay hardpack type surface... and quite smooth (not blown out and rutted) i just got a box stock zx-5, probably gonna be running the standard silver springs... i got some AE B4 shocks... perhaps they will fit? Any tips / help will be appreciated! cheers, |
