Tamiya F1 cars

In the process of getting an FA13 Footwork up together and thought about a Williams body for blitzboy to spray (same F102 chassis).

Errr died at the potential cost of the shell
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Tamiya-1-10-Wi...3A1%7C294%3A50

But the thought of Red 5 properly done, does appeal.

that'd look amazing with a fully authentic colour scheme. and that shell really suits the proportions of the f103.

funnily enough, I was chatting with the fella that used to drive that actual car (with the number 5, in red) the weekend before last....

Mr Mansell, ah cool I expect he'll be in Le Mans now to follow Leo in the Team Mondena F430. I'm not going this year and am already :(

Yup that's what I was thinking so I may just bite the bullet, hell I've spent £1k on this stuff in the last couple of months, what's another £90!! LOL

Got new Carbon fibre chassis coming etc. Just need to get decent tyres etc. Going for a number of the hop up options. Benefit is that I'll still have the original parts.. It'll have to be sprayed and stickered up by one of the artists on here to make sure it's perfect. The car will only run indoors in my lounge when it's done. Just need a small Novak, LRP ESC and a Spekturm RX to go with one of my mini KO servos.

i'll post some pics this week..

Got a Losi XX to prepare for racing as a replacement for my B4 :)

Also thought of getting the Mclaren Senna, but needs to be a full kit with stickers etc.

£90, I'm going to wait as the UK ones are going for circa £50/60 from what I've seen and spoken to Tony's parts. There is a Tyrell which I may go for, but am willing to hold out and look elsewhere..

I am interested, but not at that price..

Any pics of your cars etc

No problem.
Yeah i can dig out some pics. I think the nicest 2 in my collection have to be the NIB Williams FW14 and the Fully hopped up, brand new F102 chassis with diffuser, rear light, carbon rear axle etc complete with NIB Mclaren MP4/5B body set. The Mp4/5b was never made as a complete kit but looks awesome when built up......Just not sure if i should get it painted or leave it in the box...lol. ill put some pics up later.

So how many shells have you got and where do you get your parts? Ebay?

I'm looking at the carbon axle, uprated damper etc at the mo. Interested in the rear light and defuser as I haven't seen them before. I'm also after the proline rain tyres and some new wheels.

I used to race a Lotus 102B years ago and sudenly bought a Mugen FA13.

I'm looking at the Williams or Mclaren body set, but will also look for a Mugen set.

Blitboy will get asked to spray them if I get one.

mikeyscott 17-06-2009 11:38 AM

Any joy with pics :)

Where do you get your bits from?

I'm looking at a B192 or F189 body set at the mo. Also thinking about the rear difuser

terry.sc 17-06-2009 10:03 PM

I've got a NIB Williams FW12 body here, although due to it's value it isn't going on a chassis. Raced F1s for years and it still gets a run out every so often. The old F102 is likely to get retired when I get hold of an F104 .

Ebay is one place, and likely the only place to find F102 specific parts and front wings.

F1 has always been popular in the far east, it's why Tamiya rereleased the F103RM last year, and developed the Tech Racing F108 into the new F104. For the more general parts (bodies, wheels, etc) try the F1 specialist http://www.d-drivesportsenglish.com/ A great range of bodies from all the manufacturers (Chevron, Blade, Cross, etc) and tyres from Cross, Kawahara and Tamiya.

My other main source of parts is Dinball, who have a range of F103 hop ups including the F103 carbon axle that fits the F102, as well as a range of wheels and tyres and bodies.

.....this one is My runner fitted with Aluminium motor mount and carbon rear axle.
Ive just managed to get a Benetton B195 brand new bodyset complete with white wheels for the f103 chassis... they look awesome when put together.
As for parts, Most of the stuff has been from Tony's tamiya parts over the years. He gives a really pukka service and mega quick delivery!

mikeyscott 18-06-2009 07:40 PM

those are fantastic and I want williams shell now!

mikeyscott 18-06-2009 07:47 PM

I am looking at a ferrari f189 shell

Thanks, The williams is a really nice shell i have to say, hence i have a few of them. Its really detailed and the sponsor logos are cracking.
The F189 is also a good one, its a little bit plain when built though... this is one i picked up brand new built. it needs a clean and a bit of work...I.e the inside of the rear wing end plates need to be black and not white..

Team No Idea 18-06-2009 08:39 PM

If you can find one, the Lotus 107b is STUNNING to look at. Ive never found one but maybe one day:woot:

mikeyscott 18-06-2009 10:07 PM

I had the lotus many moons ago, but I think it was the 102b F102 version.

I like that ferarri. I think i'll end up getting a few shells for the F102 chassis.

I have a footwork car, but would happily have the b192, F189 or FW14 shells. wheels and tyres are the next problem. I.e. right wheels for the car type.

Team No Idea 18-06-2009 10:11 PM

Yup, absolutley, the right wheels are essential, the ones on my F189 could do with changing. The footwork is a really nice car when done, i saw one on ebay a few days ago......sooo tempted but i think my good lady would dispare and cut me up into small pieces if i keep buying stuff lol:thumbsup:.
Id like to see your car when done! like i say i have a mega soft spot for the Tamiya F1's,

Oooo something else to possibly consider in terms of shell (but sadly only fit the F103) are the indy cars, again they look great when built

mikeyscott 18-06-2009 10:40 PM

I wil post some pictures tomorrow night. I may end u with a couple of these. I will decide what to do with regards to shells etc. after the alu motor plate too at the mo. also the improved damper. I would like to see a rear difuser and light etc. it's going to be perfect!

mikeyscott 18-06-2009 10:43 PM

thought about the indy shells as I have seen a couple for the f102

Here are a few closer pics of the diffuser, the light is tucked into the wing mount.

mikeyscott 19-06-2009 07:39 PM

Quite like it, but not sure.

telboy 19-06-2009 08:51 PM

Pretty sure the indycar doesn't fit a standard chassis, I'm sure the chassis is longer.

This is taking me back ot when I used to race the Tamiya F1's in the BRCA series and winter series -Brca and Ashby multi formula.

Paint up many F1 replica shells like the Simtec, williams 91, mclaren hakinen, I also did a silk cut jaguar, purple and white scheme. Ad used to do a Pepsi' scheme to challenge Dez Chands 'Coke' scheme. :).....never beat it though! lol.
The black Sauber used to be the shell to race though. For some reason the wings were spot on for handling.

We used to use the diffuser to great effect, but it got banned. :(

:D

Am i right in saying they had adjustable rear wings?
I bet the starting grid looked awesome with all the carious paint jobs, just like the real thing!:woot:

tenoracer 22 19-06-2009 09:54 PM

takes me back

10 x 2 in a f103 at Crystal Palace on a hot Sunday Morning beat the 10th ic ftd . Now I,m getting a bit nostalgic but that was just about the only time that a car of mine felt like one of Martin Brundles extensions of self !!!!! forget the indy for racing I,d get one of those special edition 103s if there was anywhere to race F1:drool:

Mike Haswell 20-06-2009 05:41 PM

The Indy car had next to no wings on it as it was in oval confiquration.

Yep, they did. Only two positions, but most just put them on max downforce and left them. :)

inferno_4wd 23-06-2009 01:15 PM

Hi,

I am posting as i'm thinking about selling my Tamiya F1 car. It is a Benetton B192 - F102 Chassis and comes complete with all electrics needed for it to run. The bodyshell has been cut, but never painted as i was unable to find the right colour for it (Quite honestly i didn't try hard). I have put the decals on to the pre moulded wings, but all the decals for the body are on the decal sheet, nothing is missing.

The Car was never really run much, I had this when i was at school and saved for ages to buy the ESC only to have an accident with a puddle which put an end to my lovely new ESC! Could never afford to fix! Since then i got into 4WD electric and the F1 has lived in the loft!

It's in fantastic condition, i'll upload some pics if anybody is interested. I'm undecided about selling, on the one hand it's working and i could finally get to use it! But on the other hand I have no suitable place to run it and the costs of keeping vintage cars running in the event of accidents, spares etc, outways the fun of owning them. I've learnt this the hard way by trying to keep a vintage Kyosho Inferno, RS200 and Lazer ZX running too! (Think its about time i get shot of these also)

I'm thinking that it depends on how much i get offered for it, I don't really want to sell it for peanuts as it's more worth my while keeping it that way, but on the other hand i'm not looking to fleese people, i've seen them on ebay going for around the £100 mark.

I also would prefur it going to a collector/enthusiast rather than on ebay as i feel it deservs a good home! If anyone is interested please message me with offers.

Many Thanks,
Nick

mikeyscott 23-06-2009 01:21 PM

Post some comprehensive pictures and I may be interested.

inferno_4wd 23-06-2009 01:25 PM

Cool, i'm at work at the moment, but i'll sort out pics when i get in, should be up by 6/7pm. I'll post pics of Car (Details), Bodyshell and Decals, it has the original manual too.

mikeyscott 23-06-2009 01:36 PM

Ok cool. I've got two at the moment, but want a perfect one for the shelf.

I've got a FA31 with Ferrari body coming and a Lotus 102B.

I'd rather have a nice runner and then have a shelf queen etc.

inferno_4wd 23-06-2009 02:06 PM

Ah, i'd love to say that this would make a perfect shelf queen, but it does have a few scrapes along the underside of the chassis, unfortunately although it's only seen about 1 hour or use, it was on tarmac! There is also a tiny (1 - 2mm) split on the side of the nose (Bodyshell, not plastic moulded one).
I realise that from a selling perspective, i'm not doing myself many favours, but i don't want to give a false impression. I'll show everything in the pics though and you'll be able to see for yourself.

I have just picked a few but there are many more if there is anything else you want to see.

carbon

If you saw my post and you want to run a 102/103 I have numerous HPI chassis and top decks in differing thickness carbon
