 cant wait

Stu 04-06-2009 08:19 PM

I think I'm right here, I'm sure Richard will correct me if I'm wrong, I don't think the patch of grass is the same one I posted in the photo's a few weeks back - but is an area at the other side of and above the car park.

If I'm right it's a mad bit of ground, like the venue the Telford club used until a couple of years ago, loads of level changes and off camber stuff - totally awesome.

RickRick 04-06-2009 08:59 PM

Yes that's right there's plenty of slopes and lumps to work into the track, i think it should work out really well and all the members of our club are keen to make this a fun days racing for you all

bigred5765 04-06-2009 09:27 PM

Sorry guys we wont be at this one, but i think this is the post code for you sat nav men LA9 5BP.

jenski 05-06-2009 11:34 AM

Yup, thats the right one.

Unfortunately, I wont be able to make it to my own regional :thumbdown: as I am on holiday. But the club is working real hard to make sure the day goes well. Just need to hope the weather is kind for the first time ever!!!!

RickRick 12-06-2009 06:01 AM

looks like food/drink wise it'll just be tea, coffee, cans chrisps that sort of fare, no bacon buttys i'm affraid

Stu 12-06-2009 06:05 AM

What time tomorrow Richard?
It a definate no to setting the track out tomorrow?

RickRick 12-06-2009 05:29 PM

we're meeting at 10 am tomorrow, plan is to set out the track, then take it down again, atleast we'll get the layout sorted should make short work for sunday morning

Looks like someones hatched a plan to order bacon buttys from somewere too result!

RickRick 13-06-2009 02:49 PM

Just got back from setting up for tomorrow the tracks looking really good, should be able to get a few pics up later on, weathers looking ok for tomorrow too

sly 14-06-2009 04:57 PM

pizzaman 14-06-2009 05:08 PM

Scouser 14-06-2009 05:31 PM

Same here, awesome day, fantastic weather, a brilliant track and some very nice cakes!! Looking forward to next time.:D

burgie 14-06-2009 05:40 PM

Yep, another thanks from us here - truly enjoyed all of today's racing, the track was great and the event ran well. Even the weather came good for us!

woOdy 14-06-2009 07:15 PM

Yep. What a great day! SO glad they are back in the North West Regionals. Great venue and great club members. I know it was a field of grass but you couldnt call it flat. The only thing I do have to mention is that the tyres on the track are not BRCA legal. I dont mind but some people out there may have a different opinion. I see it as its the same for everyone.
Thank you very much for a great day. Got some great views on the way to the track too.
If you didnt go then you missed a good one.

RickRick 14-06-2009 07:34 PM

Someone did mention the tires on the saturday when we were setting off, i agree it's the same for everyone, and i don't think i saw any cars getting broken against the scooter tires. just interested what the reason might be for them not being legal? and if it's enough of a issue that we should avoid using them at the next round

I think for the next round, we're already thinking about hiring loo's rather than wait for the school pta to turn up, and maybe look at getting a bbq going.

Thats the first time we've raced up on that side, and everyone seems to agree it worked well, and it definatly had some challenges, compared to just a flat grass track

Stu 14-06-2009 07:42 PM

I think it's to do with cars getting stuck inside them - it can be difficult for marshalls to extracate the car as they get jammed inside the 'cavity' (you don't want to get jammed in a cavity - :woot:) York use motor-cycle tyres, cut in half around the centre circumference of the tread, then have a wood disc to cover the hole up - they make superb track markers.

I really enjoyed today, pity Colin is so fast -

Looking forward to the next meeting up there - August 23rd.

col300 14-06-2009 08:13 PM

Great day  Thanks to all involved. Definitely worth the trip and will be back for the next one.

DanW 14-06-2009 08:17 PM

Even though i didn't do to well, I had a really great day today. :D

A big thanks to the South Lakes guys! I think the school bumping you off your normal plot worked in your favour as that hillside had great natural features.... and gave marshals a work out to!

With regards tyres.... bot dots are the future; something that will deter and impede corner cutting but not get cars stuck.

As Stu says you can cut down and cap the tyres, or use something like heavy bin lids pegged down. Maybe even sandfill some of the firehose and peg it down in a curved profile.

With regards turnout I think there might of been a few that shyed off because of the forecast and gloomy skies this morning..... if so they made the wrong choice, the weather was absolutely glorious :p :p :p

RickRick 14-06-2009 08:39 PM

sand filled hose should be easy to do, though i'll have a look into some bot dot type markings too. i think we should also have got some of the gutter up from the indoor track to use in place of some of the hose, i'm sure we'll manage to do even better next time, and i'll do my best to organise using the council land we were on today again next time, although having to sort out somwere else to race with about 4 weeks to go was a bit of a nightmare!!

It's great to hear people enjoyed the day i know i had a really good days racing, and it's also nice (kind of) to hear peoples critiscims, so we can improve the next meeting

Great day really enjoyed it !

Colin "the girl" May played another blinder, I think il retire if I get beat again haha

Yeah those tyres! Damn them tyres gggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr 2nd to last lap ggggrrrrrrrrrr stu!!!!

Will be back in august for next very good track, better before being chewed up but all the more fun

racingdwarf 14-06-2009 09:05 PM

Hi

We had the same thing about tyres on our track for a regional, and I think the way we read the BRCA rule was you cannot use tyres to mark the track BUT you can use them within the track, so for e.g we had some small 1" pipe marking a longish bend at the end of the straight, so to stop corner cutting we put some tyres on the inside, thus they were not marking the track as the brca states as they were inside the pipe that was marking the track.
I know we should have had better pipe, but most clubs don't have big pots of money and we have to make do with what we have. :D

Of course all of the above could be total wrong:lol:

You may as well take the batteries out of your tranny now then, and chew off your thumbs whilst your at it coz it's only gonna happen next time.... You'll need to find a lap from somewhere too

Ordered anymore pink paint recently????
Pink undertray so I also see today tut tut "big girl"
Was that your daughter who designed that shell then haha

I personally blame those tyres for losing me a 16lapper and 2nd in final oh well

Life goes on !

DanW 14-06-2009 09:43 PM

The rule is "tyres are not to be used to define the track". It doesn't state tyres can't be used. So it all comes down to whether or not the tyre is the defining feature. If you wrap the tyre in 1" pipe, then you can justify the pipe as defining the track outline and the tyre is just their for weight.

But enough of tyre talk....

South Lakes Club laid on a great day for us. The land they aquired for the track turned out to great. :D

they broke mine

not that it made any difference to my results though, it's a long time since I enjoyed a days racing as much as I enjoyed yesterday!

Oscar 15-06-2009 09:23 AM

Great venue:) It was really good just to have some variety in where we race. The hillside provided a good layout with all the elevation and camber changes:thumbsup:

As for the track markings, I thought they were fine, they were well marked with hi-vis paint which was also very helpful.;)

Could you order the same weather next time please:cool:
