Thinking of selling up and quitting
Unfortunately, I have reached a line, after four fun filled years, that I may have to stop racing.
I will be taking a several month break from racing, to learn to drive a proper car, then buy one, and pay for a very expensive web development course I am going on. If I don't miss racing, then expect eBay to be hosting several hundred pounds worth of RC auctions http://tyrc-racing.com/forums/style_...ult/unsure.gif Unless, I can be persuaded otherwise. :D |
Don't do it!
Just think of all the money you have spent, and all the fun you have had. When you ebay the stuff you won't get that money back, and the chance of having more fun is gone.. Then when all things passed, and you get the bug again (cos you will ;) ) then you'll have to spend again on all new everything. Best thing to do, is just stop spending, keep you stuff and bring it out when you need to get away from everything. Then when the time comes to jump back in, you may just need new cells - then you can choose to grasp the latest technology at your own time. |
i did that exact thing, sold up to buy other things, only to regret it terribly a few years later!
now i have to buy everything again...my advise is sell things you dont need so much,so if you do decide to have a play again you still have some equipment. coz once you have the bug, you cant get rid of it ! DONT DO IT :o |
I think in R/C racing everyone gets to a "breaking" point if you like.....
Looking back i packed up too young really, i had everything going for me racing wise and was still actually enjoying it but at 18/19 decided that real cars, girls and that sort of thing should take priority........ Then here i find myself 4/5 years later thinking damn why did i give up that Factory drive, and why did i not appreciate the help and support i had from sponsors and my Dad? It's easy to not appreciate what you've got or how much you get out of a hobby like this (until it's gone)! The amount i spent on real cars over the last few years could have easily paid for me to carry on doing Nationals, Euro's and Worlds but i just couldn't see it at the time and had to have everything there and then The grass is always greener as they say............ and hindsight is a wonderful thing. Only you can decide if you should or shouldn't give up but honestly, for what it will cost you to start again in a few years at least keep all the essentials that will help you get back into it quickly as i'm sure you will certainly think about it another day! |
hmmm.
I dunno, think I will have a several months leave, keeping all my stuff. Then I come back, get a TRF415 MSXX 2nd half of 2007 version:D:D:D I am fed up with my Xray T2. I had the set-up dialed, and now it just seems to be crap lol. :( |
ah touring cars. in that case sell it all!!!!
|
simple answer dont do it you will be back
once the dark side of the force has you there is no escaping it. stick it all in a box appart from things like cells and put it in the loft that way when you want to return you have a starting point where you can see what new technology you want or need to get back on pace. i did the exact opposite and have cost myself a fortune in buying new stuff when i started back |
sell the touring car buy a buggy! your gear will be comptetative and its cheaper to run, trust me thats what i have done and found
buggy is about the driver not the equipment you can buy |
And I hope you enjoy it more too mark?
|
I actually think the opposite...
If you want to sell up - DO IT! At the end of the day, hobbies are about pleasure, if you aren't enjoying it, stop. Who knows, when you step away from it for a little while it may clear your mind and you might come back with fresh desire? Or, you may take up a new hobby that you love even more! (I find that hard to believe though, what could be more fun than RC?). |

box it up and take it to a mates, then see if you miss it if not sell up after 6 months, i sold up once went to trials motor bikes, for 3 years then spent a fortune to get back into rc |
I done exactly that what you are thinking about it 10 years ago. I sold up and got a big car and started getting into modding etc.. after about 10+ cars and having high performance. I have come back to RC and racing as I did enjoy it and the local club now does off road.
Just do what you think is right.. You may come back to it you may not.. |
Ok, I like the idea of buggies.
But, does anyone know any clubs that run meetings mid-week or saturdays, for buggies please? I cant race sundays lol:D |
Just sell it
|
no wonder you are having troubles, T2 is synominous for changing from week to week, in it's handling. Ditch it and run that TA05, far more fun, built like a brick shithouse.
If you do want to take a break, pack the gear away, look after the batteries, and try again in a few months, if you still don't like it, flog it..... I sold up and it took redundancy and 7 years and countless thousands to get back. |
hmmmmmm.
I am unsure. 50% wants to sell up, 50% says, if I do sell, then want it back.... I would maybe get a buggy if someone could find some clubs that race 2wd or 4wd on saturdays or weekdays ;);) Preferably near Yorkshire :o:D |
how about in york http://www.yorcc.org.uk/
or batley |

Might just get a buggy instead;) |

Aren't you the lad designing your own buggy to race? I assumed you must race buggy's already...... |

2: You were trying to design a buggy whilst not actually owning or running one??!!??:o  3: You walk past Batley outdoor track on your way to work and are asking where to race? 4: You are an active member on possibly the best source of offroad information online available (especially in the North East) There is an entire section dedicated on where and when to race... |
Hey Col, you're rather like Inspector Morse! :D
I didn't see the sense in any of the stated either. One thing which his striking me in the face like a soggy Trout, is the buggy project car. Talking from my own point of view, when ever I take on any large projects (i.e. this example is not specific to RC) the motivation and enthusiasm starts off sky high, but eventually plummets to sub-zero taking the whole enthusiasm away from anything to do with it. So, drop the project (I know you already have), declare to yourself that it was a mistake and continue to enjoy the sport using the choices already offered and stop wondering how to make your own, maybe use your mind to improve on them instead. Oh, and ofcause burn the 2D cars - film it for You-tube, and buy an off-roader!!!! ;) |
whats the f*ck is "tyrc" on!!!!
Can i have 10 grammes worth |
Also isnt this the same person who said he imports the Voodoo cells?
If so then how would saying you are giving up racing & then changing your mind within twelve hours make for a plausable supplier? Where's the back up for the end user? Apologies if it isnt you but i thought i read on another post that you were the UK distributor? |
I dont know what ben is on he does sell vo doo cells and he has a b4 and he used to race offroad and i still thought he did im confused ben. Maybe you should just sell the snoring cars.

Just like to point out to Mr morse:
- I can only race on Saturdays, I have other commitments on Sunday's so batley is always out of the question. - I did import Voodoo cells, however, voodoo has stopped trading for a undisclosed amount of time due to family illness. - I made the HUGEST mistake about the buggy. I can not possibly do anything of sell able quality or race able handling and characteristics. - I am not on caffeine, so it must be YOU lot who are hallucinating. Caffiene gives me panic attacks hehe :o:o:o:o:wtf: |
Ben,
Then race at York, thats a Saturday night. |

There's been many a time when i've promised i'm going to quit! Think I managed to pack in for about 5 months when the money dried up. I probably will when I can afford to buy a silly fast big car so I can throw money at that instead. |
Liam, Don't do it! As when we are paying per mile, you won't be able to use it anyway and we'll all be going racing on a horse and cart!
|
I sold up last year when there was wind of our company closing and I needed money to save incase I lost my job, sods law the place didnt close and I was without RC gear. I seriously missed it, and it wasnt too long before I was stocking up on kits and gear. Needless to say I was made redundant in the middle of January and this time there was no way I was gonna sell up. Now I have a new job im glad I didnt sell.
