CML Raceway - Needs YOUR help! - CANCELLED
NO LONGER POSSIBLE ON THIS DATE - WE WILL ADVISE OF A NEW DATE ONCE ARRANGED.
THANKS FOR ALL THE INTEREST & SUPPORT http://www.oople.com/rc/photos/cmlra...ges/cml004.jpg CML Raceway – NEEDS YOUR HELP! Right folks, we are calling on anyone that would like to help out get CML raceway back up to scratch and stop the busy body local council from halting any further meetings at this superb venue. The interest in the track has died off over the past year or so and we want to do everything we can to get it back up to scratch and finally host a big meeting that this place deserves. There has been a complaint by a nosey “rambler” who didn’t like the sight of the track or any of the features so decided to point this out to the council who are now asking for a rather large fee to keep it going. Our thoughts are simply to get the track right back to how it should be, all the grass trimmed, Astroturf jet-washed, some areas painted up and generally give it a big clean up. The next step will be to organise a big Fun Day where people can attend with just about any R/C car, Micro, Truck or buggy and get the local paper involved to take some pics and write a bit about the track in the paper. The reason for this is we want to prove to the council that R/C tracks provide a place for kids and adults alike to attend and have great fun without massive expense. People are always complaining there’s nothing to “keep kids off the street” yet the first time they see something like this Track they want to try and get rid of it. We’re planning the big clean up on Saturday 23rd May so we’ve basically got 2 weeks to try and gather as many of you helpful people as possible. Please let us know if you can make it, we’ll be starting at 9am so please bring along any Garden tools (Strimmers, Spades, Brooms) and basically anything you think that could be useful. I will confirm with Lee but I’m sure we’ll be able to do something on the Food and Drink side to thank those that come along. With the Proline Dirt Arena being just 40 mins away, it would be fantastic if we could get this venue back up to where it should be giving us two of the best off road racing circuits in the UK. Who’s with us? Your hobby needs you!! http://secretgeek.net/image/this_feature_needs_you.jpg |
I'll come along and support the fun day mate. The track is one of the best in the country and it does as you say, DESERVE A BIG MEETING!!
|
I thought the track was on private land?
|
It is - that's what's so frustrating :-( It's in the main field by Lee's house that they own, but there's obviously ramblers public footpaths nearby and they've decided they don't like it so complained to the Council who are now saying it needs paying for (partly to do with Planning permission) which all seems a complete joke so i want to see what they say after the local paper put a big feature in.
A big Fun day would be fantastic, thanks for the responses so far. |
it may be on private land, but if the land is set as arable/pasture, etc, they would need a 'change of usage' with the council.

people who dont like the hobby we do should go f**k their selves. i cant make it to help you guys but if you should want a few addresses to get some lotto funding let me know as i got a few mates who are in the know with that side of things.
cheers. |
Medeling government as ever. Has it something to do with the council needing money!
|
Lotto funding sounds great! fire away!
|
lotto money is good - if you get it, but in the emantime be prepared for big application forms and lots of paperwork. Not only that, there is a great chance you will have to provide outcomes, prove your outcomes, keep portfolios of evidence and be very, very careful what you spend it on, if you are awarded funding.
not only that - the often don't fund capital refurbishment projects, so don't build your hopes up! |
That is a sexy track. The top left section is model car nirvana.
|
Bloody busy-bodies. If they don't like the look of it as they walk past...then don't look at it!
But, like what has been mentioned before. The old folks moan about kids on streets causing trouble, but as soon as they get somewhere to go, the same moaning oldies get it closed down. Near us they had an ace indoor skate-park. Somewhere for all the kids to go and do their stuff. and the odd moaner complained about it and closed it down. FIND SOMETHING BETTER TO DO!!! and stop complaining!! Shame I don't live nearer pidge, or I'd come and help out. Good luck with it all though. |
funding
I'll speak with my mate ian 2moro and see what he has to say about making an appication for lotto. once i know how it happens, i'll have to pass it over to you guys running the project.
cheers. |

ive looked into planning for an rc track about a year ago they are very strict on things like parking and access and the noise factor. you have the fact you own the land and its been there 3 years dont forget that one i think you need to go and see the planning guys at newbury council i have sat down with them before they are really reasonable i very much dowt they will want to close down the track they have an obligation to the public is all. i cant help with the fun day but i will help with the council stuff if you need me too pm me guys if you need any help. good luck Andy |

Hi Andy its not 3 years Matey its 4 and its called Planning Permission By Default its very complicated and a Friend on the council would be a good Bonus (Sorry to put a Damper on it) Give us a Shout if you need any equipment or Help Glyn |
man, that is just the worst story I've heard for a long time... what's up with people? why can't they just leave everyone alone... ramblers and "rights of way" people make me puke... My brother can't build a garage at the side of his new house 'cos of RoW gimps! He can have a carport but no garage... and this is in the middle of a housing estate!!!
People who ramble or RoW bods or any other busy-bodies should take a look at themselves... what harm is this track doing? it's serving the community... aren't they happy with that? Get a life you jerks... ok, rant over!! :p Good luck with the track etc guys... hey, have you thought of a letter to Gordon Broon? that well known do-er of all things right... maybe extreme, but let's get a focus on the tracks plight!!! the newspaper jobbie sounds just the job... |
It's Def 4 years, and is there something to do with you can run on it 28 times a year with out needing a change of use.
Lee speak to Hancock as he will give you the low down on the issues they have faced at Sutton. Quote:

Is it still CML raceway? If so get them tapped for the money. If no-one is racing is it really viable to keep i going? |
Lee and co did have the option (and were penciled in for) two Mid South regionals this year but did not want them/chose to turn them down
Question is do they want meetings here in the future or not? The venue is a good facilty allround but only if they are "able" and "want" to run meetings there..... |
Darren,
Its not a case of wanting meetings - but have you ever seen my race schedule...? if i cannot be there to run the meeting how can i hold it? I just come back from a track which was far from ready for a national but 2 years running this one got regected...got to make you think a little? If the track goes then it goes and the UK has lost the chance of having another good track to race on. To me it sounds as if you are being very negative towards it. i personally do not want peopel to run on the track if its not to my standard, it was let run lastyear without me there and i beleive that was bad. thanks for the good points that everyone else has put accross and im hoping to get something sorted soon to run in conjunction with our other venture - PDA and run our own series of meetings! Should be fun! |

Lee re-read what I put and what Nick has started out with then, I am not being negative at all.............
Nick has started out by saying that "the interest for the track has died off" (I assume he means by racers, lack of meetings etc) I have stated that two meetings were on the calendar for this year for the taking but not wanted/not able (I did put NOT ABLE if you check what I put, since I do understand how much racing you do personnally Lee) BUT would I be right in one thing, if the boys are "rightly so" trying to save a great track, then surely that would be so it could be used....for meetings. If it is "saved" (so to speak) then would the meetings actually run on it, my point being two were offered for this year but declined (we ended up running the first one at Watford, which had 70 racers, so numbers were good, the second is now at Newbury later in the year) Again if you read what I have put I have not knocked the track in any way, my actual comment was "The venue is a good facilty allround but only if they are "able" and "want" to run meetings there....." that is not knocking it but in fact praising it. If the track is dependant on you being there to run it Lee then it is fair to say it is just not viable to continue while you are racing at the level you are, if however it can run with a "team" behind it to do the prep work, managing the club and the admin side (like Trish/John Cockill did for the regionals last year) then that is different altogether. Dont forget lads, my income and livelyhood relies on model car racing, so I want to see as many tracks as we can squeeze in the country and as many racers as possible enjoying our hobby, if there is no racing then I have no customers..... As for last weekends track and its readiness I am not in a position to comment since I was not there, but you will always get the "it was the same for everyone, level playing field" and "dont knock those who put the effort in" replies and equally the "it should be to a certain standard" "this is the highest level of our sport, we deserve to have the best" ones too, I'll leave that debate for the Taly thread..... |
fair point.
maybe we should also be searching for a 'team CML RW' as apposed to just help.... whos up for it? haha |
Get old man Evdoka back on the case mate.......Planet CML RW!!!

Isn't there something in the rules about a track having to prove it runs a big meeting before being given a national? I know Lee's track hasn't met this yet, but neither has the Tally track, this was it's first meeting wasn;t it in the new location, and last year was it's first ever? It will be a shame to lose a great track, but for once Darren does have an almost legitimate point in that if no meetings are planned to run there it will be hard to make a case for it. It certainly helped in my decision to run in a different region this year. I thought Trish and Co did an OK job of running things last year. The track requires little work as long as it is dry weather. It's just the race control side of things that need organising which John Cockill usually does very smoothly. I hope you find a way to keep it running |

it goes to Lees motivation for hosting meetings when he has been turned down for major meetings in favour of other 'non-proven' tracks. especially when the other tracks aren't up to the same raceable standard. (not trying to take anything away from your efforts Chris as Taly has great potential) But Lee invested a large amount of money to make one of the tracks in the country, then can't get any meetings approved there. |

PW said the track was fine before both days to me personly , any issues like the track marking where addressed as asked on the day - we where never asked by the drivers rep or head of the B.R.C.A to fix the bumps on the straight obvoiusly we know we need to lol but as a club we did every thing we where asked to do by the body that runs the events |
a large amount of money indeed!!!
Should have just bought a new car! |
hmmmmmmmm
maybe we need a new process? or less races in a series? |

Its not only the money that went into the track and its not all about getting a national, there were many hours put into building and maintaining the track and It would be a shame to see every ones efforts go to waist. As I think we all enjoyed racing there.
I think you will all agree that on a sunny day the track is superb. I plan to go up and do some grass cutting and getting it nice again but any help will be welcome. Going back to Nicks First message It will be great to see people helping out in an effort to make use of a great facility as If something is sorted out then we can all enjoy it. |

Now, I have not been to CML Raceway. I don't know the locality of the track either, but looking on Google Earth the track looks a little isolated and appears not to be near facilities such as hotels etc., so maybe that is why the track is not awarded Nationals? From what I have seen of the track on this forum, it certainly looks exceptional so I am quite sure it's not the standard of the track that is the problem. Have you approached the BRCA and asked wy your track is not picked for Nationals? |
The track has a lot of land surrounding it and could host a very large meeting!
The Track is 20mins from the M4 and the back roads are only journeyed on for at most 5mins from there! Hotels are available very near to the track location as Newbury Town is only 10mins from the location and there are many accomodations there! lets stop talking about negative points and work towards the 'Team CML RW' Im not worried about reasons for having a national or not as that would be for another thread. This thread is about support for the Track so lets support it:thumbsup: |

But can we go back the original quad? didn't like the step up thing! lol |
I've only been to the track once and didn't have a great day, but that was nothing at all to do with the track or organisers.
I enjoyed the track and the meeting ran very well so to my mind it would be a real shame to see it go. Best of luck with it guys, if wish I was in a position to help. |
CML is one of the best tracks in the UK and if they want to hold a National we should have one.
Where else in the country do we have a bus as a rostrum!!!! Hotel's are not a problem as there loads in the area and you could just camp. Access can not be any worse than other Nationals. Basingstoke is an incredible night out (trust me) T |
I love the track, it has to be one of the most fun i have ever raced on!
I really hope eveything goes sweet to keep it up to scratch and running. If you were closer i would be there in a flash to help prep it:thumbsup: |

Would be a laugh with a bunch of racers though. I think we need to organise some working days on Saturdays. |
The track at CML looks awsome and i think it would be an awsome track for a national. Now conserning nationals there are lots of points to consider when hoping to hold a national.
The rostrum is awsome but can i ask a few questions that might help imporve the track just to boost it up to national level: How many sets of steps does the bus have to the top deck??? What are the toilets like? Are there any other than lee's house? How many people will there be who are able to help that arent racing? You need alot of people to scruiter cars make sure the BRCA official are feed and watered. Make sure if there is a problem with the track a team can run on fix the track in as short a time as possible to reduce distruption to the time table. I wish everyone at CML the best of luck tidying the track its amazing what a diffrence it makes the the apreance of a track ide love to race on it and i would come to help if i was closer but unfortuanstly its a bit of a distance for me. All is in place for a big meeting if it is given a National or a international
the people will be there to support the track. This has never been the problem the track and all its faciltys can be put in place. The powers that be are not keen to let this track have a big meeting in the end people just gave up. Now it might be a differant story will help when I can Lee you now that back you CML and Tony PDA all I can Phill T |
