bigred5765 28-01-2007 04:54 PM

Ron Burgundy 28-01-2007 10:55 PM

Would common sense not prevail and realise that JConcepts and Team Associated are pretty much afiliated.........

It would not be in their best interests to produce a 4wd off road electric buggy

:o

BenG 29-01-2007 09:09 AM

Pure speculation. AE have always maintained that there is little 'market' to interest therm in 4wd. Now JConcepts are here, they made a statement somewhere, cant remember it exactly, but it was something like they were companies with interests alike e.t.c.

vader 29-01-2007 10:28 AM

My imperial spies inform me there is no such device.

Scouser 29-01-2007 10:38 AM

Hold the phone here, jezabel is a bloke?!!:o

BenG 29-01-2007 10:42 AM

lol yeh, its his Nickname, he is called Jeremey so I guees it went Jeremy>Jez-Jezabel:D

Scouser 29-01-2007 10:55 AM

Ah ok, poor fella!
Back on topic though, this thread has generated quite a bit of interest judging by the number of views. It is a little surprising that AE have chosen not to persue their rivalry with Losi into the 4wd arena aswell. They have the platforms to work off and the support of hundreds of thousands of consumers. Must have crossed their minds at some point surely?

BenG 29-01-2007 11:34 AM

I found the thread for it on RC10 B4. rcdude19641 said

AE is working on a 4 wheeler. I posted this a while ago but at the last RCX I talked to Gary Owens about it. He said they are working on it (along with some other really cool projects). He "said" it would be "based of the BJ4 with some changes that our drivers want." Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if it was a tub chassis version of the bj4 with molded shock towers. I don't know what Jconcepts is thinking right now but I'd be a little pissed off. As for factorybutnots source; I know the source and yes he is pretty reliable. Now when would I expect the car? Next year, right now they are focusing on getting the RC8 out and working on the TC5. I know I will support Jconcepts in everything they do because they are the best company out there. If Jason for some reason designs the car to use losi parts then I'll get it over the AE car.

bigred5765 29-01-2007 11:36 AM

the uk market is about 2-4% of total sale in usa, theres little to no market 4wd state side,2wd and trucks are the thing there.

Scouser 29-01-2007 12:03 PM

That is true but AE are now owned by Thunder Tiger aren't they? TT being an Asian based company, they might be interested in seeing a 4wd buggy that could take some of the glory away from the other manufacturers. With HPI/ Hotbodies joining in on the fun it seems strange that the probable 2wd champ will be totally absent from 4wd. Perhaps a little 'parental pressure' might be brought to bear!!

mark christopher 29-01-2007 12:05 PM

if it comes it will prob be metric like the rally x is going to be

bigred5765 29-01-2007 12:06 PM

there will be no conflict of interest between the two companys at all, thunder tiger are in the process of making a 2wd and 4wd buggy, ae only 4wd will be ic 1/8th for now,

but it will use thunder tiger parts!

jimmy 29-01-2007 01:31 PM

bit OT - but did anyone else notice the new header cards on AE parts -

MADE IN USA
made in china

bigred5765 29-01-2007 01:36 PM

thunder tiger have made ae parts for them for years anyway,
and do already swop parts from one car to another
diffs are the only part used from another car on rc8 all the rest is brand new

pics jimmy pics please
no havent noticed what have they done

jimmy 29-01-2007 01:42 PM

Will get a pic later - every part is the same, says made in the USA in big letters, then in the small print it says made in china.

WTF ! haha

I hope there is a AE 4wd buggy. Off road is certainly coming back, and even if the market is ultimately tiny compared to monster truck toys - they SELL those monster trucks on the back of their racing heritage.

BenG 29-01-2007 01:43 PM

People with an RC18T what logo is underneath the AE one on the reciever?

Answer: Thunder Tiger.

AE are reducing the amounts made in the US. It is much cheaper to have Thunder Tiger mould parts e.t.c

jimmy 29-01-2007 01:47 PM

I went into modelsport in otley once - I was thinking of buying a MGT thing. There was the AE MGT and the Thunder Tiger version of the same truck..
I already knew they were the same thing, and the Thunder Tiger version was 50 quid less.

vicky asked why the thunder tiger was cheaper - and the guy said that thunder tiger use cheaper plastics! and the quality wasn't as high as the AE version :D

Sorry modelsport, I thought it was funny. ;)

thunder tiger make most if not all ae parts and have done for years

jimmy 29-01-2007 01:48 PM

Are you calling mick a horse ?

bigred5765 29-01-2007 01:55 PM

he is built like one, and trust me if he tramples on you, you would think a horse has hit you, lol

MarkWesterfield 29-01-2007 02:49 PM

I doubt AE will release an 1/10 4wd electric off-road buggy. Electric off-road is getting smaller and smaller while 1/8 off-road is getting bigger and bigger here in the U.S. They haven't even released their RC8 yet and haven't even mentioned a truggy version. Maybe they would produce a 4wd if they are still popular in the rest of the world, but over here in the states, smelly, noisy, and truck bodies sell. Dame shame too.

Scouser 29-01-2007 03:23 PM

There are a few manufacturers I would love to see add an off roader to their range. Xray, Corrally and a new home grown Schumacher would all be great news for the class. Can't see it happening though, I just thought that all the pieces were in place for AE to get one sorted pretty quickly. They are working on the new TC5 by all accounts so the diffs are sorted straight off. It just seems that even if it was a parts bin special, that they would still be able to create a competitive buggy that would do well in the stores.
The MADE IN USA/made in china only seems to be on the newer stuff. The old packages with the Stars and Stripes at the top is only USA, the new blue packaging has its Chinese origins printed in the bottom left!! Well spotted Jimmy!

Gary Owen, nice block he was in the Uk for the NEC thing a few years ago, he phoned me to congratulate me on my last ever welsh regional win with my b4.

not every day a random getS a phone call from an American big wig.:)

For the last 2 years running the 1/10th electric off road has been fully booked with 130 drivers doing 2wd and 4wd. We have 6 National events in the UK and this year 2wd will go up 150 drivers to conpensate. 2005 we had 2 of the Losi boys come over on the way back from the Worlds warm up and they found it very hard to keep up. This National events over powers any other meeting in this country at the moment.

Im guessing the made in China refers to the actual piece of card and the USA refers to the parts in the bag ??
