Sorry, for not getting back to everyone yet. I have been extremely busy getting the new day job under control and still trying to keep on top of the decal requests and have fallen behind with the decals. I am now in a position to devote more time to the decals again and should be in touch soon. Once again sorry for the long delay some people have experienced.

Kev

For the adventurous and computer/design savvy, you could try some DIY decals.

I've been in contact with QP Media, (must get around to ordering) who sell printable adhesive vinyl - you could try your hand at printing your own. The only downside is that your average inkjet doesn't print white (for clear media) and doesn't pre-cut the vinyl (for glossy white media). I'd recommend pigment inkjets over dye inkjets, for reasons of light-fastness.

I plan to do some on clear media, printed mirror image for application inside the shell, from signatures and graphics I've Traced into a vector graphic using Inkscape. As I don't have an airbrush, this may be the best way to do really eye-catching shells :) - I could even use photographs.

nice idea colmo , i ve got a craftrobo plotter that can cut out logos and images but the trouble is the medai paper as its not cheap and would it be water proof , if its on the insde of the shell then i supose it would be , but nitro fuel is the other problem too and this does get on the inside ,

thanks for the responce kev , you have a pm mate from me about my stuff so hpe to hear from you very soon :bored:

The media does work out cheaper than pre-made decals, especially custom ones! I think it's 50p per A4 sheet? That's a lot of decals.

I believe the printed decals are waterproof (pigment is also more water-resistant than dye), but you could use an over-laminate. I asked Steve at QP Media about over-laminate, and he offered me some B-grade (has a sticky 5mm edge) clear glossy vinyl for the purpose. I believe he said there's be some proper over-laminate in soon.

Steve suggested a few fine coats of clear acrylic lacquer spray for protecting the decal - I'd use this on the inside too before paint application. I suppose a layer of tape over the decal on the inside would also aid water-resistance.

Jimmy's stickers

How do you print the stickers you produce for review cars etc Jimmy?

bigred5765 22-05-2009 01:03 PM

my guess is a specialist vinyl printer,

I got a quote from my nearest sign/graphics printer, provided I did all the designs - I think it was £25-ish for a 50cm strip (forgotten how wide, but A2 I think), with costs plummeting for additional printing. Most of the cost was for setup.

Another option if you're serious is buy a Robo Craft vinyl cutter and printable vinyl, and DIY.

bigred5765 22-05-2009 02:50 PM

tried it that way it does work but i would recomend ether a clear spray finish over the top, or thin clear vinyl

Or print them in mirror image and stick them on the inside before painting
