Questions
2 question for the x factory guys
1) Motor seems to be getting a bit hot does this mean i need a fan or some holes in the shell if so where so water does not get in 2) Went to formby indoor today - high grip track with an Ellis setup and at first the front wheel was lifting under power - any pointers would be greatfully received |

i run a nosram heatsink on my motor and it never even gets warm thhat with the hole in the shell where its supposed to be jus behind the wndow on the left hand side if you where looking at it from the front
|
Jamie, sounds like you may be a tad over geared, I have no problem with my X11 7.5. What motor/gearing/battery are you running?
On a high grip track I would use the middle hole on the rear wishbone, 30 weight oil in rear, a rear roll bar and e speed hangers upwards, this oought to help. Something you need to do is run the ride height a lot higher than you would think, the X-6 doesn't grip roll like other 2wd's and the car runs much better with the driveshafts slightly above level. Throw out of your head all the conventional B4 setups and start calculating "the new math" ;) |
Hangers up hey!! thats a damn good idea craig:lol:
|

Many thanks
Thanks craig will take it all on board and give it a go next time
|
If its only geting a bit hot Jay your not trying hard enough :p
What motor you running now? |
*
That was a 6.5 light with Ellis's recommended ratio ie what ever he ran in the worksop indoor final - its quick enough for me that's for sure
|
southports a lot smaller than worksop, we ran a 6.5 its way to fast for southport indoors, a 7.5 or even 8.5 would be best, and the rear anti roll bar should stop most if not all the roll, see u there sunday??
|
You might benefit from a motor heatsink on indoor tracks, but once outside in the lovely UK weather things should be fine without.
Yeah just following on from Carl's post. A 6.5t is a little too 'hot' for the car indoor. The reason I say that is remember that last years Indoor Finals were run using NiMh's. LiPo's give a tad more power ;) |
the lrp heat sink and fan used at ebor 24 HR race did a great job and is worth every penny, it will be added to are list of needed items shortly,
|
Carl, the heatsink is the normal LRP motor heatsink. But the fan that comes with that is WAY to big for the car, so I used a normal 25mm speedo fan.
I suspect you'll only need the heatsink for boring 5 minute indoor racing. :p |
cheers phill,
|
Maybe try a 7.5 Jay Ive been running a 7.5 or 6.5 indoors dependent on track size & always run a 5.5 last year with nims!
Are you at Kiddy or Souhport on Sunday? |
what rear roll bar do you use? b4?
|
b4 or losi bits for mounts, you have to make the bar your self, we use 0.9mm 1.2mm

this is the motor heatsink i use but the fan is huge as phil says so i just run it without it |
But yours is red so much more effective. :p

What anti squat do you run stan
|
it fully depends on the setup of other parts on the car mate. But if you run loads of anti-squat, then instead of the rear of the car squatting on acceleration, it'll want to wheelie. I'd use 4 degrees of anti-squat if the rear dampers were set really soft, and the anti-roll bar was used.
If you were to run a stiffer rear end, you might want to get rid of some of the anti-squat to balance it out again it's all about testing mate, getting the setup right for you, not copying other people's setup all the time ps - the above is only my view, it may or may not work for you. test test test |

Cheers mate I'll take it on board at the moment I have just put everything together and now need to tweak for my style of driving - got so much to test and so little time

I use Losi shocks, but some of the guys at my local club have been testing with associated shocks with losi pistons and they seem to work very well indeed. |

As Stan says tho, it's a preference thing, I like to be able to loosen the rear end by letting off the gas although it can be a little un-nerving as the rear end can feel like it is moving sideways with more anti squat. If you prefer the rear end to feel locked in and carry more speed through the corner less anti squat may work for you. |
What bits/parts do you need to fit an Anti-Roll bar to an X6?
|
Mark, I'm using most of the hardware from the XXX rear roll-bar with a custom wire. Thinkness varies a little between each racer, but you want go far wrong with a selection between 0.9mm and 1.4mm. It'll mainly depend on the piano wire you can get locally.
