23rd Annual Cactus Classic at SRS Raceway, March 13th-15th 2009.

The SRS Raceway in Scottsdale, Arizona has announced the 23rd Annual Cactus Classic, the largest electric-only off-road race in the world, to be held on March 13th-15th 2009.
Entries open on February the 1st and are capped at 350. Who is planning to attend this event?
We're hoping to sort something out for oOple reportage too, so watch this space :)

Apparently - this year the organisers saw fit to sell rights to cover this event to RCCA magazine, and I'm not actually sure any other coverage on the web or magazine is even possible - and if it was there would be a large fee involved.... Vicky was going to go cover this event - luckily we decided not to cover it and save resources for other events

Bastos 12-03-2009 02:55 AM

OK Ben... Paul says right...

This one give a better idea on the "race condition" ( HOOOOTT !!! )

Poor situation for our passion...the biz take the place.

So...save resources for Spain in Bilbao !! ;)

I hope you don't mind me posting this, Jimmy. Since news from the race is kind of scarce, we here at X Factory are trying to get a bit of coverage up; a few pics as we can and hopefully some round results once the racing starts. Check it out here: http://www.2wdrc.com/News/2009Cactus.htm

That track looks quality. I really need to go and race in America soon, stupid career keeps gettin in the way :-(

Lee 12-03-2009 09:36 AM

Thanks Paul,

The track looks very cool, the table bridge thing looks "different"

jimmy 12-03-2009 10:19 AM

Ofcourse not Paul! please feel free - we still are interested in the results and information about this race.

Chris Doughty 12-03-2009 10:34 AM

watching the trucks bod around I thought it look very awkward track,

but then watching the other vid of Maifield blasting the B44 around, awesome!

jimmy 12-03-2009 04:21 PM

Paul, what say about this so-called controversy at the event?

Police trackside is never a good sign but things go tits up when money gets involved. Brandon has done so well with live RC and provided the world with something that nobody else has been capable/bothered to do.

It's a shame there is no live coverage as i think live rc has made the event more accessable to everyone who cant be trackside and makes us want to attend the following year. For me SRS may have shot themselves in the foot on this one.

jimmy 12-03-2009 05:06 PM

That's possibly the most intelligent and well constructed bit of writing you've graced us with Lee - EVER. Personally speaking I like liverc coverage and watched the CC before on there - and it was great. But nothing beats a good race report, particularly updated live / semi-live, with good photos, gossip, etc etc..

All down to Paul and the XFactory guys now

Lee 12-03-2009 05:16 PM

Ace innit

DaveG28 12-03-2009 05:20 PM

Am I right in thinking the track has changed owners since last year? Maybe it's the new guys after some more cash by selling rights?

Went looking for it while waiting for an NBA game in Phoenix when I visited in Nov, got totally lost though!

Still, seemed to be loads of strip clubs near where it's meant to be!!!

Chris Doughty 12-03-2009 05:37 PM

another pic of Jorn with a Yokomo?

Thats exactly what it is Dave. I read a comment, saying the new owner thinks he is holding the indy 500.

I'm not actually at the Cactus, unfortunately, but trying to watch from afar as the rest of you are. There has been a ton of drama involving LiveRC and whether they were (or were going to be allowed to) cover the Cactus Classic; all I really know is that there were some disagreements going into the event, they thought they'd patched them up but I guess not, and things escalated into some kind of shouting match. I don't really know who's claiming what, who's right and wrong, etc; all I do know is that there is no live coverage coming  so I've demanded lots of phone updates and pics from the X Factory guys at the race . It was mostly for my own benefit - started as wanting to see some decent pics of the track and grew from there - and then I thought, "Wait, it won't take but a minute to post these things up...." So here's hoping there's more pics and info coming tonight (US time, of course).

Jorn is ace - but......I worry who will now translate for Gerd at race meetings? :p

Paul_Sinclair 13-03-2009 04:19 AM

UPDATE! Got some practice lap times up, more pics, and of course details on the carnage caused by the massive windstorm :woot::woot:

Lee 13-03-2009 09:09 AM

Its good to see the pidge, bradders and Neil up there.

That wind storm looks cool too, is it me or does the HB eezy up look just like the JConcepts one

Wish we had tracks like that cactus thing here in Belgium!!
