Iconic Cup 2017
http://i1303.photobucket.com/albums/...pspa4k8fib.jpg
The Iconic Cup 2017, which pays homage to the Tamiya Eurocup, will run from March to June. Dates will be announced in the new year. Best 3 of 4 rounds.
There will be a finalised PDF with all of the details once the dates are confirmed but to allow entrants to prepare, I've uploaded the Classes, Rules and Eligible Cars to the Iconic RC Facebook Group and also to here on dropbox: https://www.dropbox.com/s/2ckgm4jkdd...Rules.pdf?dl=0 There are just 2 changes from 2016: The TRF & GT classes have combined into 1 GT class. We have introduced a Stock FWD Championship for the FF-01 and FF-02 chassis. This will run within the 4WD stock heats so you cannot enter both 4WD & FWD stock classes. There will be championship trophies for Stock FWD but no trophies at individual rounds. You cannot switch between Stock 4WD & Stock FWD during a round. Cheers. John. |
Better dust off my Evo3.....

Looking forward to this! Had a great time last year. Why are the fwd and 4wd not separate heats? I know there are a few drivers who have bought both thinking they could race them both in separate classes. It's a shame for them.

With trf and gt being one class this time round, there would only be 4 classes running. So a separate ff class would only make 5 finals?
It doesn't actually affect me so I don't want to rock the boat so to speak. Just my opinion.:) |

I haven't had anyone come to me upset about the stock FWD being in with the stock 4WD heats but in any case, the format is set so we'll see how 2017 goes and tweak for 2018 if we need to. John |
ff class
Must admit, I have bought a ff02 so that I could run 2 classes
|
I did the same with ff01.
|
Just out of curiosity, why is the series starting in March?
|
I'm just assuming but there all out doors so hoping for better weather and they will have to fit round any other already booked club commitments
|
Hurry up and release the dates, the wait is killing me. :) :p
|
Are the chassis same as 2016
|
I think they are the same as last year.
|
Here are the 2017 dates. Online entry will open shortly.
The document containing all the information can be found on the Iconic RC Facebook Group Files section and I've also uploaded a copy to dropbox here: I've uploaded the information document for the Iconic Cup 2017 to the files section of this group and I've also uploaded a copy to dropbox here: http://i1303.photobucket.com/albums/...psgggdjdk3.jpg http://i1303.photobucket.com/albums/...psgggdjdk3.jpg |
Is booking in going to be via the individual clubs websites again or does it have to be done on centralbooking.org?
|
Online booking in is open.

Cheers John. All done. Just got to finish the cars now. M02l is pretty much there but the tt01e is still firmly in the workbench lol.

iconic cup
where are the m chassis and f1 classes located on central booking ?
|
ignore that.. Found them
|
I happen to know someone who has an FF01 & TA04 for sale, both eligble for the stock class.... ;)
|
I know someone who could be interested in the TA04, any ideas on price? Please pm me thanks :)
|
It's a shame you are limited to such old Tamiya chassis because even though I have a couple of Tamiya cars, they are too recent to be eligible, and I don't fancy trawling eBay for an old chassis and NOS parts to get an eligible car up and running.
I can't see that an M-05, TT-02 or TRF418 would be an unfair advantage in their respective classes. Will likely have to give this a miss, even though Cotswold is my "local" track. :( |
If I may offer an answer, while I tend to agree that building a vintage car can be tricky the iconic cup is based on the Tamiya euro cup which ended in 2004. So to pay homage to it and to make it more authentic it is open to cars which would have been raced in it. Hence it being restricted to cars produced pre 2004. I'm happy to be corrected if this info isn't accurate.

Could some one confirm what chassis could be used in the gt class ? Thank you

72 entries for round 1...

If the Cup does continue I personally think it would be worth at least considering rolling the cut-off dates forward to allow newer cars in (obviously still Tamiya only). A big motivation for that might be the dwindling numbers of affordable "service" parts for some cars (try to find a stock TA04 diff pulley at all, much less one costing less than eleventy billion pounds) as well as the cars themselves. Of course Tamiya might suddenly start re-releasing on-road cars rather than just buggies but I'm not holding my breath there. The other thing is that chassis like the TA05 (in all its myriad variations), TB03 and FF03 are all somewhat orphaned at the moment as they don't fit in the vintage regs but they're now largely outclassed at club level too so they're not getting out so much. And spares support is still plentiful for them. Moving the clock forward a bit more and the same will apply to the TB04, TA06/7 (and even the M07 Concept). One of the things that got me back into on road racing was spectating at a Super Production Cup meeting and being amazed close (and how fast) the racing was among the 17.5 brushless FF03 cars. And I'm betting they didn't worry about age-brittle ABS plastic shock towers cracking at all (says the man suspiciously eyeing up his FF01). Just my two penneth, please feel free to disregard.

The Idea behind the series is to race cars that were raced in the official Tamiya Euro Cup.
|
Regarding a couple of posts above. The Iconic Cup is a vintage event for older chassis and that won't change any time soon.
