That will be the new rules for 2009. All of them will look similar to this.

DCM 16-01-2009 05:24 PM

all it is missing, is the mechanic getting an electric shock from the KERS

telboy 16-01-2009 07:31 PM

Pics of the new Toyota here - http://www.formula1.com/gallery/launches/2009/345.html

I must say, hats off to all the designers for making the cars look a lot more pleasing than I thought they would.

I did think they were all going to look toss to be honest.

The rear wing does look stupid though, but theres nothing they can do about it as that is the rules.

I don't know why they didnt leave the wing the same width, and just limit the amount of horizontal planes to 1 and have a limit on its depth. This way the cars would look better, but still reduce the rear downforce, which is what this is all about.

Chris Doughty 16-01-2009 07:36 PM

the McLaren has got toe-out on the front... :woot:

I wonder what Cree has come up with for the RedBull....

I think the principle is to leave as little 'bad air' behind the car, so a narrower wing will do that.

ok,so i may get jumped on again(lee):p.
but what was the best f1 car? Attachment 4997 FW14b...hmmm:wub

Southwell 16-01-2009 08:02 PM

Bet they will be a right handful in the wet with such small wings compared to the previous cars.

telboy 16-01-2009 08:25 PM

I bet they will, especially with the large front wing as well.
Heidfeld has predicted lots of big accidents this year.

This has to be the best F1 ever. Winning all but one round in 1988 taking Senna to his first title.

If it hadn't been for the Ferrari's scoring a 1-2 in monza, not long after after Enzo Ferrari died, then they would have won every race.

If it hadn't been for Jean-Louis Schlesser, then Senna would probably have won that race too.

I'm hoping that the racing makes up for the way the cars look this year. As has already been said, wet races will be interesting.

Exactly. And he was only there standing in for Nigel Mansell because he was ill or something.

It's hard to get past the fact that we're talking about a season from 20 years ago, we must be getting old!
The cars were better back then and the racing....

Garry Spice 19-01-2009 07:08 PM

how about the little teams that have gone....? simtec, larousse, prost, lotus and footwork.i guess i`ve missed loads.can any one add to the list?

peetbee 19-01-2009 07:30 PM

How about Hesketh, March and Wolf?
There's lots from the 70's and 80's that didn't even last a whole season!

They will have their own package in some form for the new owners but I am unsure as to what will stay. ie if the engines come out of Japan, there wont be any future involvement...

So what do you reckon will happen to Honda then Garry?

telboy 19-01-2009 10:15 PM

I reckon they'll get bought out by some far eastern millionaire.

Dave Richards just isn't intrested yet until the cost cutting measures show that they'll work.

I think it was Lola in '97 or '98.

I think you could be right, they folded after mastercard realised that they weren't getting great value for their money!

In the 80's though there were enough teams for some to fail to get through pre-qualifying on the Friday, let alone make it to Sunday!

Unbelievably Minardi did well enough in their first few seasons to even be challenging for pole!
Anyone else remember Leyton House, Footwork or Andrea Moda?

Garry Spice 20-01-2009 05:53 AM

a few prob with honda making the grid are,no chassis, engine, gearbox or kers.....razor for jenson! they wont make it or if they do they be miles off the pace.

PTRU 20-01-2009 03:56 PM

Pacfic racing Kith Wiggins (Raynard)
Brabham
Mike Earles out fit can not think of its name
Arrows
Shadow
Ligier
Penske
March
ATS
Zakspeed
Force

Just a few more
Honda hopefully will know this week, I am informed it is good news.:)

Minardi were ace....or should I say PierLuigi Martini was ace. Getting that Minardi near poles and wins took real skill.

Leyton house march, I can always remember Mauricio Gugelemin launching it on to Mansells Ferrari at the start of the french GP in '89.

...look at all the cars!!! a full grid of 26, those were the days!

Footwork were ok. sort of mid field. Can I recall Aguri Suzuki running a marshall over in hungary?

...nope found it. it was aguri suzuki being hit by the 'safety' vehicle.-

Andrea Moda were just rubbish.

I always liked the Onyx team and the Simtek, now that was a sexy looking F1 car.

Team No Idea 20-01-2009 06:49 PM

Bring back the turbo charge era !! oh yes indeed !
Old school F1 rules! when men were men and sheep were scared! and F1 cars had gear sticks and bugger all driver protection !

telboy 20-01-2009 07:52 PM

I can remember when Michael Schumacher tested the Schecter Ferrari from the early '80's-late '70's.

He said that it scared him!! because there was no protection in the cockpit and it was difficult to drive!

Nancy!

sime46 20-01-2009 08:48 PM

Honda have a full 09 package to run. They are continuing with low key testing. I know someone on the team. Car is on the sussy rig right now. They wont race without new backing/owners.

Most of the current Honda staff Dave Richards had a hand in recruiting, when he was team principle..

Them were definitley the days Terry, some of the in car footage, esp round Monaco, is fantastic with proper gear changes, none of the fancy electronics. The current drivers have it too easy!

Team No Idea 20-01-2009 11:45 PM

Favorite F1 moment?...... silverstone 1987. mansell leads until he gets a puncture, nips in for new tyres and comes out in 2nd place behind Mr Piquet with about 18 laps or so to go.
Mansell breaks the lap record 11 times to catch and pass piquet with only about 1 lap to go and take the win......... the cars engine had meltdown after the race and had to be thrown away such was the pace Mansell drove..........

next fav moment, Mansell passing Berger for 2nd place at mexico 1990 in the Ferrari, absolutley harry flatters round OUTSIDE on the last corner on the last lap..awesome.

I was born in 1980 and grew up around 80's and early 1990's F1.... Those day of heros seem to be gone.... yes its still got some exitement and drama but nothing like the moments that are etched into my mind from years ago
