V2 firmware and software is now up on the Losi website.

Install programme (if you have AVG disable real time scanning)
Plug in USB adaptor, it should install itself
UNPLUG batteries!
Open programme
Make sure both lights are green in the programme
Click update firmware
Locate file, if you cant find it put *.lsc in and it should pop up
Let programme update speedo
Click commands and then reset to factory defaults
Now click read settings
Now setup as you want

My setup:

Throttle Limit: 0%
Reverse limit: 100%
Motor Timing: Normal
Initial Acc: Medium
Braking %: 30%
Drag brake: 12%
Deadband: 3

Thanks for the info (& thanks for the response to my other post re not needing the fan in 2wd). I've read a few posts on here from guys saying that downloading firmware has knackered their Xcelorin speedos, so having not even used mine yet I'm a bit reluctant to do it!! Should I be concerned?

Southwell 04-01-2009 09:28 PM

I don't see why you should be concerned, all of my speedos were upgraded today and all took the new firmware with no issues. The software is now a new programme, V2, and should be a lot better. When plugging in the speedo make sure the software says the ESC is connected and if you are concerned just keep an eye on it for a couple of mins and make sure it doesn't drop out before you d the upgrade, ive not that ive had that problem though.
I used the new software today in 2wd and it makes the speedo feel much nicer and has sorted out any of my previous issues.

Super, thanks for the reply Ian. You know how it is when you read stuff like that on a forum...

i4n 04-01-2009 10:20 PM

Cheers for the heads up Ian, did both of mine today with no problems at all.

Spencer Mulcahy 06-01-2009 10:28 PM

I have tried but failed the software is in my documents but when I try to install it my computer blocks the install so I cant update firmware if that makes sence. I think it is my anti virus from AVG but I cant turn it off so I will keep it as it is unless one of you computer people can help cheers.

Spen.

Southwell 06-01-2009 10:29 PM

You cant install the programme or the firmware? You upgrade the firmware from inside the programme.

Spencer Mulcahy 06-01-2009 10:39 PM

Sorry Ian I am computer iliterate I downloaded the program from the Losi websit which went into my docs as an icon. When I click on update firmware on the losi program and type the file name it is not there (D01012806.LSC) I think that it need installing from my docs it starts installing from the wizzard but my antivirus flashes up and stops it loading. I have uninstalled the old program as it says the new program is there as when I clickon about it is all there as it is supposed to be.

No - it was a real problem that happened to an experienced racer, I started racing in 1978!
I would not post if it was not a genuine occurance, the fact that it also happened to another user at my club, totally independently, gave me reason to post.

Just downloaded the new software and the new firmware, will try the new firmware upload during the week and if everything goes OK will post to that fact

simon 06-01-2009 11:14 PM

Hi,
i have just bought the losi esc with the 6.5 motor, which firmware do i update to my esc?

Cheers simon

Southwell 06-01-2009 11:31 PM

the dec 08 one. You need the software and firmware. The CD in the box is only to install the usb adaptor, do NOT install the software on the CD.

You just need to double click the firmware file.

I think you will have to temporary disable avg to get it to install. You can do this by opening the AVG user interface and double clicking the resident shield option and then unchecking the 'Resident Shield active' box. Then click save.

Install the software and then follow the above and ensure the tick is put back in the box for the 'resident shield active'.

I usually only do this if I've disconnected from the internet first.

Come and see me on Sunday and i'll update it for you

Spencer Mulcahy 07-01-2009 11:14 AM

I will try what Zipper has said and if that doesnt work i will see you on sunday cheers Brian. I will still need to get the program onto my computer so that I can change settings as you will only be installing it onto the speedo wont you Brian?

Southwell 07-01-2009 12:06 PM

If you have a laptop get someone to install it on there?
If only a computer after setup it can be generically setup with base settings.

To be honest I don't change my settings at all now they have been the same since Southport National, 2 weeks after I changed over to it.

Well uploaded the new firmware with no problems today:D
So I thoroughly recommend everyone to download version 2 of the computer software, as this seems to have fixed the firmware update problem that happened with version 1

Good to hear.

The Doctor 07-01-2009 09:07 PM

Hi guys,

Just read through the instructions from the Losi website. As I understand:

Remove Setup v1
Download Setup v2 & install onto PC
Download new firmware (v2.8 Dec 08)
Click "update Firmware" in the Xcelorin setup programme & select the appropriate file.

Is that right?

When I try to install Setup v2 onto my PC I get some error messages saying that there is a problem copying some files:
mfc42.dll
CP210xManufacturing.dll
Losi.exe

Unless I select "Ignore" to these error messages I can't get the new Setup v2 to install.

Any ideas? Thanks for your help.

Southwell 07-01-2009 09:12 PM

restart pc and re download the setup.

The Doctor 07-01-2009 09:33 PM

Great, I've now got Setup v2. The firmware file downloads as "D010128.LSC" but the instructions refer to "D01012806.LSC". Is that right?

Try typing *.lsc then enter it should show the file

simon 08-01-2009 11:09 PM

Hi, thanks you that worked.......but then when it was downloading the firmware,at 70%downloaded a reading error sighn came up...i clicked ok....and all the boxs went blank??

Spencer Mulcahy 09-01-2009 12:25 AM

I have sorted it now chaps thanks for all the help. I think what had happened is I downloaded the wrong thing from the Losi site, I downloaded the first on the list this is where my problem was when I downloaded the last on the list it worked fine cheers again. Oh is it normal for the blue light to go off on the speedo(when conected to the usb) as it went off on mine after being on all the time when using the old softwear.

dibble34 09-01-2009 08:03 PM

Hi all, really need some help with my combo. Just upgraded the software which seemed to go ok. I have teh acoms 2.4 GHZ wheel. I tried to calibrate it and all seemed to go ok, however whenever i try and reverse, the red light just comes on on the ESC. Forward is fine, i had chosen forward & reverse in setup, although i am now relying on the card as the usb adaptor has given up on me! :bored:I tried a spare 27mhz set i have, but still now joy. Any ideas?

Southwell 09-01-2009 08:06 PM

Do reset to factory defaults on the software first, then setup.

dibble34 09-01-2009 08:14 PM

Hi

Did all that, reset to factory defaults, then read the card then sent settings etc. Other problem is i now can't get into it via usb as the adaptor has broken, no lights come on and it just gets hot when i plug it into the usb cable! Luckily it is still under warranty, just tried my 27mhz again and the red light does come on too, when i choose reverse, but nothing happens. Did set it up again, but no joy .Have tried several times with the card to choose forward/reverse. really frustrating:mad:

Any other ideas?

Southwell 09-01-2009 08:34 PM

No sorry, i would contact Horizon. You do plug it in without the cells plugged in dont you, the usb adaptor i mean.

dibble34 09-01-2009 08:39 PM

yeah, it seems to get enough power from the laptop and that is what is says to do in the manual. Just died on me!

Southwell 09-01-2009 09:00 PM

Im planning on coming down some time soon. ;)

dibble34 09-01-2009 09:05 PM

nice one, tis a good track i think. Although with no reverse my lack of skill may be a bit too obvious:lol:

That's the one.

Just upgraded my brand new unit to that 20 mins ago. Worked like a charm.

simon 09-01-2009 10:01 PM

Thats great,thanks............one other thing,do you know if you can have strong drag brakes then hardly any normal braking?...

Dunno, why not just try it? But from looking at it, I don't think they let you have more than 30%?

If you wade through the upgrade instuctions from losi, they mention that they recommend setting the brake percentage to 70-80% now and using the radio to trim it down. Its not entirely clear from what he says, but I think he's saying that by doing that, it makes it much quicker to control the brake amount by using the radio trim. Makes sense.
