British Winter Open Championship 6th/7th Feb 2016
British Winter Open Championship
BRCA 10th Off-Road 2016 British Winter Open Championship 6th / 7th February 2016 Winter 2015/16: Many clubs hold their Winter Series of events through the winter months. Check around at your clubs to see what’s been hosted in your areas. Many racers turn into what I call fair weather racers and move into the Indoor Season events. Many clubs up and down the country have indoor venues and there is a lot of racing on carpet with man made jumps and other features. The 2016 BRITISH WINTER OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP: The BRCA 10th Section run a prestigious one off event called the British Winter Open Championship. This year the date is 6th/7th of February. The 2WD event will be run on Saturday the 6th and the 4WD event on Sunday the 7th. A perfectly timed event, that sees the racers compete with their new rides and certainly great preparation towards the forthcoming season. Hosts of the 2016 event: The club is situated in the Moulton College where it has grown to attract racers from all over the country for club night racing and at its popular winter series. Even racers from Europe pay ‘Stone’ as it’s known, a visit. The club hosted this event (BWOC) back in 2013 where it did a fabulous job. Now we are back and the club is as excited as ever in holding a great event. Matt Owen the Chairman of the club is probably one of the most passionate organisers in our sport and with him at the forefront, we are more than confident of an amazing weekend for the British Winter Open Championships (BWOC). The Track and Surface: The surface for the BWOC will be Astro Turf. A high grip blue Astro. As usual the club always has some very demanding jumps and jump sequences along with some slippery corners just to keep your attention on a demanding lap. We are all looking forward to this great event. Controlled Tyre The 2016 BWOC permits only two types of tyre for the rear axle. The permitted rear tyres for 2wd and for 4wd are :- Schumacher Mini-Spike (Original & Mk.2) and Ballistic Buggy Mini-Spike. Front tyres are a free choice. Compound and quantity used is not restricted. Event Information Event schedule: This event will have 2 practice sessions, 4 rounds and finals for all. If you manage to get into that prestigious A Final, then it will be 3 legs for those guys to decide the BWOC Champion of 2016 in 2WD. The same method the next day for 4WD. The doors at Silverstone normally open up around 6.30-6.45am Practice session will start no later than 8.00am in heat order. Be ready to race by 7.45am if you are in the early heats. Silverstone and BRCA Personnel: Of course like any club; there are so many people to mention. Lots and lots of people behind the scenes make these events happen. The usual suspects will be involved for the event to do what they do best. Like mentioned before, Matt Owen once again heading up the ‘Stone’ team to pull the event together. The below will be trackside helping with the event organisation. Along with others from the Silverstone committee and a number of club members. Matt Owen Paul Upton Lee Romang (commentator) Colin Buck Sonia Mellett Simon East George Carter And many more that I don’t know as yet The BRCA crew headed by our Chairman Paul Worsley that will have his Team of personnel that actually run the timing, schedules, refereeing etc., just like at our National events. Entries’ from abroad We welcome all entries from across the water and we would love to see you at this event. This is an event that is sanctioned BRCA so it is a must that you hold a BRCA members license to compete. This can easily be done for a small fee of £17. The licence is valid for the whole year so you can compete at other sanctioned BRCA events too. Please visit this URL to optain your licence: http://www.britishradiocarassociation.co.uk/join Pitting Power is supplied by the club but you must bring extension leads. Please bring table and chairs. Any racers from abroad will be catered for either by their own Team or the club. Booking in and fees: Entry fee is £15 for each class. Guessing there were only so many 2wd spots, so when people have added two 2wd (to get around the 4wd pricing issue) its taken all the spaces?
Fingers crossed :) |

need some help...... I had a go at entering, website says over subscribed in 2 and 4wd... so fair enough..... but the email i received is giving me the option to pay up saying "please remember to send payment if you have not done it already" I clicked on the link in the email and I can pay up for both classes if i like. someone tell me not to do it as im pretty sure its some sort of mistake as i dont want to send money if theres no space?

Ah thanks for the Facebook link, it's a bit vague if I'm reading it correctly, it doesn't answer anything about if you should pay or not if you received the email when at the same time the website says it's 'fully subscribed' , but I'm going to assume not anyway. Cheers for the help.

I've just been told by a friend to look on here and have a read!
I stopped on the way back from jobs in the evening booking went live, entered, And got a reply saying "event over subscribed" but a few hours later received a payment request so paid! Apart from Christmas Day and Boxing I've worked long hours all over Christmas. And now reading the list I'm 51st reserve in 2wd And 4th in 4wd And my payment will be returned in due course ? No message or email from anyone telling me of any problems. Really !! WTF! |
Reserve #5.... Doh!
|
You guys know this is nothing to do with the club right?
The booking side (and associated issues) are handled by the BRCA, not Silverstone. |
Bwoc
Yeah , silverstone are just the hosts , nothing to do with the organising of the meeting , we just supply an awesome venue and an amazing race track
|
I support Silverstone club 110%, this unfortunately will put a grey cloud over the Silverstone club (by people who don't know them).
I do, and can honestly say the guys behind the scenes at Silverstone go above and beyond that extra mile to make there race meeting's the best they can possibly be. There winter series is always fully/over booked, which says enough. I'm not pointing a finger at anyone ! Especially not Silverstone ! But this really is a mess! Sorry if I offend anyone but it is. As I received a payment request, thinking that I had a place?, I paid the request, and booked a hotel room to make sure I got it at the early booking prices. Ah well.... I expect I'll turn up and glue up tyres for my friends who are racing. |

I am in the same boat myself, 70+ on the 2wd reserves list and all paid up.
Just wanted to make sure that people understand that this is not the clubs doing! |

I was more concerned with the lack of SSL on the entry form, as we've all just sent our name, address and phone number over an unencrypted session to a website we can't verify the identity of. What makes it worse is that anyone who wanted to capture traffic knew exactly when to listen because of the defined opening time for entries, making it easy to grab everything in one lump to go through at their leisure :( It's the same on the BRCA membership renewal page, no SSL - although arguably less of a security issue given the spread out nature of people making submissions. I really appreciate the effort the BRCA is making to embrace things like online entry to events rather than faffing around with cheques etc, but it feels a bit rushed/not ready at the moment. |
