Rc10b5m champions edition.

I may have missed the point here but they seem too be releasing a car to comemerate a win where a different car was used ?.

ralphee 06-11-2015 07:46 AM

Ade i nearly spat my coffee out at work when i read this release plan lol!
They intend to release a car, that wasnt used, to celebrate the Worlds win!
So, its a total cop out IMO, sure you get a lot in the box, but, not a car that dominated the Yatabe Arena high grip layout!
So, they beat Yokomo and Xrays dedicated high grip cars, and, the lesser mortals, wont get the chance to drive it, poo pants i cry!
Then again, they may decide to rake in more coin next year and release it when they manage to sell off all the surplus std B5M transmission lol!

Bests....lee

Heres what you could have won!

Heres what you will get, bit of a downer, but then, still a great car, just, meh, a let down.

Brilliant but not totally unexpected. The Associated race team did a great job and won the Worlds when a few thought they might struggle. They then threw that win over to the marketing department and said "hey, sell some cars on the back of that, guys". I don't think Associated are the only company who would have been in this position.

Nicely blinged up car if you want an Associated car. Be interesting to see how it sells against the other new and revised cars coming out over the next couple of months.

Red RC are calling it a limited edition which I guess to mean commemorative, so buy it and shelf it don't build it and if you do only spray it in Rivkins colours, dig it out in 20years and it might be worth something. As a production car it's nothing more than a collection of all the bits you can already buy and probably already have if you own a B5M.

Seems like a massive missed opportunity to release a Worlds Edition or just an Up yours to Europe and astro turf, I like Cav's comment of you can go to any track in the world and have the best of the best, that would be any track apart from Yatabe Arena where you need a different car!!!

Come on where's the 3 gear low COG box, the rear hubs, the caster blocks, carbon rear shock tower and the what ever the hell was going on with not having a front hinge pin brace?

peetbee 06-11-2015 01:27 PM

But it's the champ edition not the worlds edition!!
Maybe that's being released next year :woot:

honrico Diablo 06-11-2015 02:26 PM

I've been waiting and checking the press for this to be released daily...santa got me the standard b5m last year which I loved then. It cant cope with the kf's yz2's at my club now...

I think he'll be bringing a kf2se this year... Well done AE....ball dropped:mad:

ralphee 06-11-2015 03:34 PM

I think AE just opened the door to Xray, PRS, Durango and still Yokomo for anybody wanting a true low CG high grip car!
Oh hey, i own a 3 gear B5M, i simply MUST buy this, ummm actually, noooo, your just selling off old hat surplus, and folk bag on Tamiya for this kind of activity, pffftt!

Lee

ralphee 06-11-2015 03:37 PM

There is a pattern though, they did the same thing in '89 and '91 lol!

Lee

xfactor 06-11-2015 03:40 PM

I cant see a price unless I'm missing it !!!. How much is this non worlds winning buggy with every option everyone's got.

ralphee 06-11-2015 03:51 PM

Id bet its a sniff under £400 Mark, yup, the Champions car, he never drove haha!

Lee

honrico Diablo 06-11-2015 03:52 PM

i reckon £269. cant be more expensive than buying standard one + the extra bits!

ralphee 06-11-2015 04:08 PM

Yeah but i bet it comes in a really, really special box made of unobtanium lol!

Gupz 06-11-2015 04:50 PM

Lol you lot are funny. It's business. The champ edition won the USA title. That's the one they released, but with a load of options.
Why would Associated bypass their biggest market, the USA, by releasing an Astro car before crimbo?
We will get a high grip lr gearbox car at some point, but for those that are desperate to drive a car that is as close to a worlds car as possible.....you can buy a lowrider kit and some new shocks. Problem solved.
I'll buy one for the sake of the money it would save in buying all the bits separately. Keep the lr gearbox and just have a nice new car for next years oOple series :)

Feel free to disagree, this is just my opinion on what they have done and why.... :)

ralphee 06-11-2015 05:23 PM

Sorry but i do disagree, why would a carpet or astro racer, want to buy a pretty expensive car, that he knows is going to possibly need a Lowrider trans, and new shocks, etc etc, when he, or she can just go to some of the other brands i mentioned earlier, that are dedicated to this surface?
Just really shabby business sense IMO, but yes Gupz, your right, opinions vary, and AE have there own loyal fans who will lap this up, its not a bad car, not by any means, this is more directed at a rather silly idea from AE, to release a Worlds Edition that didnt see use at the front of the field. Ill stick with the TRF till i hear more about the Xray car, and await AE possibly announcing the true Worlds car all in one box.

adey 06-11-2015 05:40 PM

One of the features on this champions edition is the gearbox so I think it would be a bit silly too then go and buy a low rider style gearbox adding more expense to this new edition. If it's correct that they have released this car to keep the American customers happy then that's fine but what about us Europeans who race on high grip. The worlds event (the most important racing event in this sport) was high grip let's not forget. The fact is that associated fans in Europe want a high grip car and this has disappointed them. That's my opinion for what it's worth.

Gupz 06-11-2015 07:01 PM

Some people do, some people don't.
Not sure it's worth getting annoyed about. It is what it is lol
I didn't say that people would want to buy upgrades or anything else.

I just said they could :)

pizzaman 06-11-2015 07:49 PM

The King of bling gupz is right. Not the best release for us UK guys
But it is what it is.

Ross 06-11-2015 07:58 PM

I would guess the kit isnt aimed at little old England and its high grip tracks or even Europe with its high grip tracks, more at its biggest market which could be the US :D

discostu 06-11-2015 07:58 PM

I think it's great where do I get those shocks. 👍👍👍👍

I think this is a big let down for all the AE fanboys, all hoping for the worlds car and getting the last two kits just thrown together in the same box.

Blatant cashing in that we haven't seen for such a long time from a manufacturer, apart from Schumacher :-)

Ross 06-11-2015 10:11 PM

It is a limited edition, and its replacing the team edition, poss a worlds after that ?

xfactor 06-11-2015 10:34 PM

Team Associated Site states,

Part Number 90002

Price 509.99 US.

tiny tom 07-11-2015 10:06 AM

I was hoping for the lowered gear box, but no. That is what won the world's, and no way am I going to pay that for it. Might be changing car now

That's just the Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price.
No doubt it will be around 20-40 pounds more than the FL.
($324.99 is the web price on AE's site)

Associated site states,

509.99 then crossed out to 324.99

AntH 07-11-2015 06:31 PM

If I remember rightly the 1990 champs edition didn't have the stealth gearbox from the 1989 worlds....

Wig 07-11-2015 07:06 PM

What isnt clear to me is whether it comes with both complete transmissions or just a couple of extra bits to make one or the other.

I would like to know this also, does it come with two ball diffs? Two motor plates?

It's much easier to swap out a complete transmission track side than have to take it apart and rebuild for 3/4 gear.

xfactor 10-11-2015 02:22 PM

Will it require 2 bodies also as the gear boxes are either side ? or will one body be ok ?

One body will be ok, I run a JC Finnisher body on my B5M Lite with it trimmed at both sides to allow fitment of 3 & 4 gear transmission.

CARB 14-11-2015 06:27 PM

The release of the Champions edition would have been planned way before the worlds and not even Associated could predict that they were going to win the title.

it could be just a case of the Champions Edition planned date for release being after the worlds, so if they had not won the title would they have changed the name of course not.

I too way amazed that a B5M had won the title only to find out later and fortunately, before I had ordered a B5M on the strength of the win to find out it was not a B5M but a B5 special.
