My 1st attemp with liquid mask and an Airbrush.

RCS Liquid mask, Vallejo paints and the airbrush that came with the compressor.

I'm unsure of how to do the window surrounds, can anybody help?

DCM 28-10-2015 07:41 PM

Good skills, just be ware on the amount of pressure you are using on the blade, there are deep score lines around the chequers at the back.

As for window surrounds, I never use the masks and freehand it, makes doing the window surrounds much easier.

Thanks, I cut the chequers at the back 1st with a new blade and just used too much pressure.
Will try cutting the windows freehand on the next shell I practice on.

Thanks for the advice.

I did three with a sponge, then left it over night before cutting.

Ashlandchris 28-10-2015 08:29 PM

For liquid mask I find 3-4 thin coats works best. It covers better and also when it comes to cutting and peeling it removes more easily too

For window masks I use a vinyl cutter

The Joker 28-10-2015 08:55 PM

I need some of the vinyl paint masks, like a varied pack of mesh, hex's, stars etc.
I'm hoping to use them as well as the liquid mask.
Any ideas where I can get some from or can somebody on here do some for me?

DCM 28-10-2015 09:03 PM

RCS Graphics do (or did) the re-usable masks.

As for Liquid Mask, I brush on, 4 coats, maybe 5, that way I ensure it peals nice, if to thin it is a total mare to peal but there are tricks to removing it.

Make sure you wash thoroughly, rinse with hot water, dry immediately and put first coat of LM on.

Cheers lads, ill get cracking this weekend, see what i can do with it!

Some great work there Sean. You should bring that mini down to Norwich on a Sunday night. I guess you race at west winch?

Thanks, I am planning to come over to Norwich with the mini. I race it at Weeting Model Car Club, they don't have a mini class at West Winch only buggies.

Thanks, Any tips on how to cut nice curves in liquid mask?

n design 25-02-2016 09:28 PM

Try and do the curve all in one go, move the shell as well as the scalpel when cutting 👍

stucartwright 08-06-2016 03:50 AM

Your work sir, is immense. I have a compressor, but just want to fiddle around at a bit of airbrushing, what airbrush should I get do you think?

Ashlandchris 08-06-2016 06:03 AM

On 1st page he says he uses Iwata Neo. There are lots of threads on here about what brush to use. I also use Iwata and they are pretty much the go to airbrush.
Good luck with brushing.
2 tips. Thin the paint, and use the right air pressure
You want the paint to be approx viscosity of milk to avoid clogging the brush or spitting. Pressure wise, for fine work you need to go as low as you can, for large coverage you can go higher

stucartwright 10-06-2016 01:55 AM

Many thanks Ash!
