Procat

3 Attachment(s)
Won myself a Procat from ebay over the weekend, fairly local so i collected earlier today. Bit of a project, will be a runner.
No doubt i will be asking for plenty of advice over the coming weeks :)
It appears to have a few modifications and parts swapped out for bosscat parts.
Came with a box of spares which appear to be most of the origional parts from the car.

Started to strip it down already to inspect for any damaged parts and to see what im up against. Current electrics wont be required any more.

Looks to have some nice homemade metal rear arms, slipper clutch and u1304z 4wd truck and saloon body mount kit.
Few very helpful guys on facebook vintage schumacher page (anyone on here?) pointed out its also got bosscat hubs, wishbones, camberlink plate. Gearbox heatsink, possibly a mms front diff and an mms rear shock tower amongst the spares.

Coming apart nicely, only problem ive encountered so far is a snapped top deck. I was aware there had been a repair as the seller was honest about this in his listing.
So he first part on my shopping list is a new top deck. Been advised fibre lyte do a carbon fibre one, anyone here used them? They the best option?

plenty of spares...and a bit of bedtime reading ;)

MattW 25-08-2015 10:00 PM

Yeah, I think a few of the FB group will pop up on here. The rear shocks are bosscat works. The suspension plastics are pretty much all bosscat, the rear arms I'd guess are home made.

It is indeed a MMS front diff, and I wouldn't be surprised if you find an MMS rear diff as well (especially as there is a std one in the box!) Bosscat slipper (which a lot of people have been asking about recently) as well.

Bugger it was you who I was bidding against then lol

Checkout peakey's xls build, he got his chassis set through fathead on here, the top plates are the same and the main chassis is no problem as he can use my new built procat for the template if needed👍
I got a fibrolite main chassis for my bosscat works they look nice but are not made of the best carbon sheet tbh

Thanks for the info :)

I think most of the members on vintage Schumacher are in here too
The more I look at it the more I think it may of started out as a Bosscat or had a lot of Bosscat parts to start with, what rear diff is in it? That might be the give away.

Here's my Procat thread, currently a massive update is being planed but for the moment that is top secret ;)

My XLS build with Damo (Fatheads) chassis set.

Just pulled apart the rear end. Any info on the diff?
At first i thought it may be standard but it appears to have metal washer carriers so maybe not?

Peakey 26-08-2015 06:33 PM

Looks like a standard drum with the alloy carriers, are the diff washers hexagonal or round and how thick are the alloy eccentrics? They look like the bosscat ones.

They are hexagonal.
alloy eccentrics are 10mm overall, the mounting plate being 2mm.

MattW 26-08-2015 07:03 PM

All looks pretty std in there to me.

Peakey 26-08-2015 08:02 PM

I just thought the eccentrics were the rare bosscat ones but there not. The alloy our drives don't really come up for sale and are a lot better than the plastic ones.
Should just take a bit of a clean and you'll be up and running

you mean std as in procat?
or its been changed to std bosscat diff?

Peakey 26-08-2015 09:23 PM

That's a standard Procat diff the bosscat one is white and bigger so needs thinner eccentrics.

Stole Derbydans pic again

Standard diff and bosscat pro diff, I say standard in size only really.

Yes you can. An ultrasonic cleaner does it all for you while you get one with assembling some already clean bits. :)

hahaha i havnt forgotten, its been getting plenty of attention ;)
Well as i said before, everything got stripped down and i got busy with the toothbrush cleaning and checking everything.....diffs, shocks etc all rebuilt.
Then i threw it all back together whilst i waited for parts to arrive, and still search for other bits.

Do have a ton of bits to do, and parts to fit/replace back to procat parts but as im still gathering parts im not sure what i will use where as i will explain in my next post.....

Peakey 18-09-2015 05:50 PM

As i was saying about what parts will go where........ Ive ended up with a few new additions. Now own 3 procats, 3 bosscats and an ex team car xls.

This is the xls, undergone the same strip and clean. Was proper dirty, but with a bit of elbow grease and a trusty toothbrush its come up nice. Currently a pile of parts.

I went to pick up the xls and couldnt leave her behind. A real hotty.

Im waiting on a job lot to turn up in the post. Once ive been through it all i will know what i need but i seem to be buying whatever i can lay my hands on at the moment as i want to run them and not worry too much if i break anything.

Danf1275 18-09-2015 08:34 PM

That Bosscat is lovely. Is it a Parma shell? Never seen one before.
