plasma or lcd
hi guys
looking at getting a new tv any recomendations or any to say clear of undecided weather to go for a plasma or lcd  cheers paul:) |

Just remember there is some gash ones about so as always you pay for what you get. |
try
www.trustedreviews.com for some decent reviews of most current sets. Plasma will tend to have the better picture quality, but they do eat electricity more than LCD. LCD you can get half decent full HD sets for low money now, but for a decent full HD plasma it will cost you a little more. normal HD plasma are pretty cheap though. LCD do still struggle with rainbow effect and motion blur, as well as black levels compared to plasma. To get a decent LCD that minimises these issues you will have to spend a bit more than average. Pretty much all LCD have a dynamic backlight now which can take some getting used to. |

Plasma all the way mate:) Go for a LG pg6000/6010 I got the 50" for £720 delivered from Dixons online. Can't fault it. plasma gives much better picture for movies games has a higher colour pallet and they look more natural, blacker blacks etc, i own both and plasma is in a different league running Hi Def material. And the best thing, most people and shops try to push you to a LCD which means you get a better deal on a plasma.:woot: check this site out. OH and dont bother going for full 1080p Hi Def you wont notice the difference unless your sitting 4 feet away watching a 50" Nothing is broadcast in full 1080p http://www.avforums.com/forums/index.php |

was looking at the LG make seem very reasonably priced compared to others
anybody got a samsung tv if so what do you think to it ?? |
i have always liked LCD :D
|
anybody had problems with "image burn" on there plasma tv's
|
have you tried CRT yet?
No bluring from motion, No back light problems, cost a fraction of LCD/Plasma and best of all if you keep to around 28" no need for HD just to make it watchable. :p |
You're right - CRT tv's are the best picture quality by far. Some of the LCD's are truly shyte. I was working on an (unassociated) project with one of the lead electrical engineers behind the devlopment of LCD tv technology, I asked him what tv he had - CRT of course! He reckons the LCD picture is crap too. We had a laugh about this.
|
plasma all the way, got a lg 52"PX there awsome miles better picture quality than LCD,worth the extra dosh,
|
I have both but the plasma wins hands down.
got LG 50" great t.v |
Depends what you mainly intend on using it for. If you mainly use gaming consoles or watch animated films then LCD. If on the other hand you mainly use your TV for films and sport then Plasma is the way forward
Id recommend this... http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/pro...NIC-TH-42PZ82B |
The cheap ones in the supermarkets are the bottom of the range models without as many pictures and perhaps not as good picture quality. The model numbers look very similar but the letter on the end will be different, that denotes how high up in the range it is.

good picture but probably the worst sound on the market ok if your plugging it up via surround sound/prol-logic unit but pant's on its own |
just upgraded to a 42 inch toshiba lcd, full 1080p ( ps3 and an upscaling dvd player ) and compared to my old 32 inch sony wega ( top of the line crt from 4 yrs ago ) its fantastic especialy as it was £550.
I did look at plasma but in my price range and max telly size I could fit in the living room nothing came close to the toshiba sound is a bit off but I have a full av system with a powered sub that shakes the whole house if required :) its personal prefrence tbh anything over 46 inches plasma is probably better, I saw a 50 inch set that had amazing pic quality but at £2500 thats a bit mutch :woot: |
Paul, what are you going to watch on it? That's the first question we should ask.
If you have an HD tv and you don't provide it with a HD signal, it can look proper gash (as Danneth would say). G |

I got a 42" 1080p Panasonic plasma about 12 months ago after reading a few copies of What Hi fi - Sound and Vision. The only better screen at the time was a Pioneer but it was big £.
If you can stretch to it, Sky HD is superb |

Yeah totally agree with that Neil - to get the best from any decent 1080p tv you really want HD input.
Im hard pushed to spot any difference between blu ray and 720p SKY HD input though. |
The best way to go is if your getting less than a 37inch then go for an LCD. Larger than a 37 and it has to be a plasma. Ive got a Samsung 42" plasma and its awsome!
|
I have the panasonic veira 37" LCD and it's fantastic, picture quality and sound is bob on:thumbsup: it cost me about £750 but it came with 5 year warranty. Bought it from costco:thumbsup: planning on getting the freesat system, anybody using this ?

What he said above. If your playing a lot of games then go LCD (to avoid burn in the fixed parts of the image), if your likely to be stationary on a certain screen for a while (again, such as a game menu whilst you have dinner or paused porn) then go LCD. Anything else go plasma! I have a 50" 720p Samsung and it's brilliant. With the inputs I have available (Virgin media is 720p max no matter what they try to tell you!) including my PS3s blu-ray I would not get any benefit from anything more! When I was looking I narrowed it down to LG and Samsung .... like the Panasonic but could never justify the 15% or so extra price spec-for-spec (might be diferent now). No problems with the Samsung at all but then again I have never had the speakers in use so can not comment on them. One piece of advice I would give is don't buy the biggest screen that you can get, buy the biggest that suits the room. My 50" is too big, no question. If I was buying again I would go for 40" / 42". Oh, almost forgot ... get a decent up-scalling DVD as well or your movies will look rubbish .... (especially dodgy porn). Again I went Samsung but the Panasonic stuff is great too and there seems to be little in it on price unlike the screens. |
yes it is for gaming / tv so better look for lcd then;)

Hi,
Find a tv and check local/ nearest waitrose or John Lewis. They will price match locally and give free 5 year warranty. I have a viera, 2 years old when it was still grand an a half for a decent 37 inch. They were on par with most but by the time you work out what other 'electrical superstores' charge for a sometimes pony warranty they work out cheap. Check most recent what hi fi type mags for fairly unbiased shootouts...then pick up a telly when out shopping in waitrose for vennison burgers!!! Happy christmas |
Pic of my setup if anyone is interested. Excuse the crap pics
