Drop Inn Racing, Craigavon, N.Ireland

A few guys are getting together to race mostly 1/10 off road electric & Tamiya TT-01 in Craigavon, right in the middle of Northern Ireland. This Wednesday, 10th December, will be our first night in a new hall with astroturf floor. If you are in the area, please feel free to drop in. It's a superb facility - now all we need are enough racers! (Especially off-road guys!!)

See our website or PM if you want further info.

mole2k 11-12-2008 11:46 AM

How did the racing on Wed. go? I'll have to get some of the people from the club up when people aren't quite so busy!

eda 11-12-2008 12:17 PM

Hall was double booked, so ended up in a big old dusty bodyshop  Got to try a TT-01 & a buggy at the end of the night on the astroturf surface though, should be awesome.

Watch out for a big New Year event - details to follow!

mole2k 11-12-2008 12:55 PM

I had heard somebody mention Rennicks GP might be held there this year. It would be a great advertisement for the club if you got it running there. Would the surface be smooth enough to run normal touring cars on?

jimlee 15-12-2008 01:35 PM

Heard that the Rennick GP is on New Years day....maybe classes for both Touring cars and Buggies with the new Astro Turf being used.

eda 15-12-2008 02:06 PM

Should be a brilliant day on the astroturf, with a few jumps out for the off-road guys. Guess who has to go to work that day though?

Any results?.....:blush::blush::blush::blush::blush::b lush:

mole2k 04-01-2009 06:08 PM

I havnt heard of any results Jim, I heard the 2nd place fella was awesome though managing to run 2 cars in a very tight heat structure. He was even graceful enough to allow somebody else to take the glory by winning the buggy final.

By TWO laps.......:blush::blush::blush::blush:

mole2k 05-01-2009 01:32 AM

I had warren and mark driving into the back of me repeatedly that cost me 25 laps at least :P

eda 05-01-2009 10:27 AM

Jim,

Trying to read between the lines here.. ;) Do I detect that hearty congratulations are in order??

What did you think of the track and set up? Saw a quick video from 1-Jan event this morning - can't wait to this Wednesday till I get a go on it myself.

There's life in the Auld Dog yet.....My first win since last Century....
Never changed a thing from my Fivemiletown set-up and the grip was great with the Yellow spikes.
Andrew hasn't the results on his site yet but it was a win for myself with Stephen (mole2k) and Warren making it a clean sweep for the Clogher Valley Model Car Club.

eda 05-01-2009 12:08 PM

Congratulations to the Clogher Valley CMCC crew

Any pics from you guys?

mole2k 05-01-2009 10:10 PM

My set-up didn't seem to work that terribly well, I really struggled to turn in at low speed, high speed everything was ok but on the slower sections it was just pedestrian.

I have a few shots, the lighting in the hall is very low from a photography pov so it's quite a struggle to take shots. I don't have the buggys as I was too busy usually getting mine ready but I got a few shots of the touring cars. Some of these where taken by Jim also.

Full heat of buggies now racing regularly every other Wednesday night at Craigavon, N.Ireland. Should shortly be enough for separate 2wd & 4wd classes. Astroturf surface is ace, computerised lap timing and jumps now also in place for each race night. If you live anywhere within driving range feel free to drop in - great crowd of helpful guys there to race with. Tamiya TT-01 / touring cars also welcome, although they were outnumbered last time out! Our local model shop also at hand to supply what you might need if starting up or starting back to racing!!

See our website for race dates or contact me through the forum here for further details. http://dropinnracing.website.orange.co.uk/

Aim for the downramp Jim, nice soft landing then . I might be away taking photos on the 12th when you're down  but I'll definitely be racing up there on the 18th.

I should hopefully be able to get, it really depends on warren if he's able to go or if I can persuade fiona to go up!

Get anymore new jumps made, Jim loves jumps and was hoping for lots more of them.

Oh yes! It's what them buggies were made to do.....but I still HATE them....

eda 03-04-2009 08:55 PM

Most of our jumps are in need of some repair at this stage! Would like to get some more in place but will depend on time available over the next week.

You've got the pingpong table there, make a copy of the players big jump :p

eda 08-04-2009 03:49 PM

Hmm, don't think we'll get a jump that big! Bring your own pit table again though in case we do try something different! :)

Build a loop the loop!

jimlee 10-04-2009 10:30 PM

Thanks Ed and the Drop Inn Racing Club for the hospitality.
Great nights Craic...even for those who hate jumps! Pity some drivers who usually excel over the obstacles found the wrong angle to land at.....
Still trying to work out where I went on that 50+ second lap....:p

eda 10-04-2009 10:40 PM

Tried to tell you not to stop for coffee while your final was on but you wouldn't listen! Amateur at the computer - that's what I would blame.

Managed a broken wheel, front wishbone & rear shock tower myself - had only bent 1 drive shaft since September up till tonight... I blame that double in the middle, and my driving. :bored:

A stub axl, how on earth did I break a stub axl?

The only thing i've broke on my 501 in the first year of racing was a rear wishbone after a bad landing flatout with a 4.5t. Then tonight I ruin a spur in the practice and break a stub axl from a heavy landing in the 1st heat :(

I still maintain if it wasnt for the spur gear incident meaning I was running the wrong gearing I wouldnt of had the issue with the double, I couldnt get up the speed to comfortably clear it :(

Mark clearing the double.

eda 27-05-2009 10:17 PM

Another good nights racing at the Drop Inn, with several "experienced" racers mixing it with the newer members who should have been revising for their exams.

Once again Mark Penney came out top buggy (no change there then ), with none other than Jim Lee coming an impressive ........ 2nd! Team No Tyre Glue was 4 seconds behind, with our local entrepreneur a steady fourth, or at least he was when he was not in the wall. The Associated Bickerstaff Team made their debut in a bright blue RC18 which showed real promise, while newbie (to Drop Inn Racing!) RR had a nasty fight with a wall resulting in an early finish and a fine performance punching numbers on the laptop. ( I hit that wall early on in my night too, only in an Associated! :D) Big rumours about Bickerstaff Senior finally seeing the light and wheeling out a 1/10 electric buggy, but no confirmation on when he will take up real racing. Show him the way Jonny!
Touring cars won by Neil No Grip McConnell, despite the boasts of Gareth the Challenger - who's going down now then?? Welcome debut too for James Ward who lit up the night with his new car.

So with Man Utd getting stuffed on the Youth Club big screen in the background - another super night!

Sounds like a splendid evening - though Jim never fails to pop a jibe at the jumps on the CVMCC website at Fivemiletown (and on this thread - see post #26!), he seems to manage just fine over the even bigger ones in Craigavon!

Did you run touring cars and buggies (including the 1/18th micro racer!) separately?

With the CVMCC season soon to take it's summer sabbatical, I hope to visit the Drop Inn track again soon.

eda 28-05-2009 07:48 AM

Not so many complaints about the jumps this time for some reason. Breaking news though that RR & Team No Tyre Glue are considering an appeal to the FIA over Jims CAT pushing them in to the wall early on. If upheld that would move Jim down 2 places to ..... 4th!

We ran all scale of buggies together & all TC together last night. You are very welcome to race with us anytime. Good luck with the CVMCC racing tonight.

My solicitor has been informed and he says I have a case, as my good name and reputation has been so blackened by such comments on my obvious driving skills and fondness of wooden obstacles.......

eda 28-05-2009 09:53 AM

Points noted and our legal team informed. Pending appeal you are free to race tonight, please report further on your position after tonights racing. Without the obstacles and with less Associated machinery around much is expected from your CAT.

For anyone this side of the Irish Sea, there will be a heat of electric buggies at Navan this Sunday 7-June if you can make it. Looks like a great track - should be a good day!

mole2k 05-06-2009 09:35 PM

I love to get down with the buggy for a spin but I wont have any lifts and all the electrics are in the tourer.

It was good to see a full heat of electric buggies in Navan. Hope that everyone enjoyed the day.

Found that track very bumpy for 1/10. Great layout though - liked the jump up on to the corner table top. Good friendly club too, which goes a long way towards a good days racing.

Interesting to see the 1/10 electric guys outnumber the 1/8 nitro guys on the day!

eda 06-07-2009 09:56 PM

For anyone that can make it, Drop Inn Racing at Craigavon in N.Ireland will be running right through the summer, every 2nd Wednesday night, 7.30 - 10pm. Next race night is this week, 8th July. All electric buggy & touring car racers very welcome!

mole2k 08-07-2009 03:30 AM

I cant make it on the 8th but im hoping to make it to the next meet.
