Losi Springs...

Hi all,

Just looking through the setups on HB europe, and for the Schumacher indoor series I see Adam Skelding is running with Green front and Red rear Losi springs.

Just wondering if anyone can coment on what difference these make to the car in comparison to the kit springs?

Also, does anyone know the part number for these?

Thanks for the help

Dan

Hi Dan,

I just found the HB springs were a little to soft for the tracks we have over here and also a little long. They tend to get 'coil bound' on full travel which effectively negates the spring and loses you grip, usually on the rear.
The springs I have on my car are HB prototypes which are similar to the Losi ones.

It also made it easier for me to understand the car as I ran XX4 and XXX4 for around 10 years. It's easier to start with something you know. You need to use the short spring perch with the losi springs. The Taller spring perch is for if you use AE springs.

;)

Crazychambers 24-11-2008 07:55 PM

Adam,

Thanks for that. Are the spring perchs' for the losi spring the same as the ones used for the HB springs or do I need to get hold of some others?

Thanks

Dan

Adam Skelding 25-11-2008 08:21 AM

Nope, you don't need to get hold of any others.
They're the ones from the HB kit. ;)

Thanks Adam, I'll get hold of some and hopefully give them a go at Broxtowe. Also see on your setup sheets you run a -1.5mm rear roll centre, just a question of how you acheive that!!

Thanks for all the help

Dan

Adam Skelding 25-11-2008 08:39 PM

The roll centre can be acheived with a dremel.
But I've been using some prototype carbon plates. They've been showcased on oOple before.

They'll be available from December..

Keep an eye on www.hbeurope.com and mirageracing.com for their release.

Great info Adam, interested to know your opinion on the new plates does it really help the car?

Travis (USA) had raised the rear gearbox 2mm have you also tried this? Any advantage?

Adam Skelding 26-11-2008 12:01 PM

I know Travis and Jesse both use it pretty much everywhere they go.

I'm not sure how it would work over here. I was hoping to try it soon, but as I've just switched to LiPo, I'm already learning new set-up stuff for the car.

Single steps at the moment, not making huge changes to the car.

mark christopher 26-11-2008 01:22 PM

what would lifting the box achieve?

roll centre inner link up, drive shaft angle, higher cofg?

Hi Dan,
I've made a couple of changes since putting TP 3200's in my D4 WCE.

To start with I got some lead sheet and made a 'Kit-Kat' Finger of lead about 92g in total and put it between the cells directly under the rear centre driveshaft. Once you've made you finger of lead, make sure you heatshrink it together as a package and use some really good D/S tape to hold it down.

Set-up wise:

I'm now running slightly softer
450 Front Oil
350 Rear Oil

Copper rear roll bar.

Ride height: I've actually increased the ride height all round to 22mm.

Losi Pink Rear Springs
Losi Green Front Springs

I've got the carbon plates on front and rear.
Using only 1mm of spacer under the plate on the rear and 3mm under the front.
Shortest link possible on the rear and also using the outermost hole on the carbon plate on the front.

It's taken a little while to get used to the LiPo and how the car is affected.
Weight-wise my car is now 1595 race ready.

dan_kitty 15-01-2009 01:45 PM

cheers adam, some things to try there. I quite like the feel of it with lipo now im getting used to it:)

Cameo 15-01-2009 10:16 PM

I've got the new carbon plates but I can't use the 1mm spacers as the locknut rubs on the outdrive the lowest I can get is 2mm.

Any pointers?

Dremel the nut at an angle to clear the outdrive. You only need to dremel off the 'corner'.
I Dremelled mine down so I could run zero spacer. The I know whatever I do in a rush at trackside will fit.

Crazychambers 17-01-2009 01:15 PM

Adam,

Long shot, but do you know when the Carbon plates are going to become available?
