AVID chassis joy

I tested a bit last night and what a difference it made. Although I didn't really give the car a good run and test with the original chassis, but Im not thinking that I will go back to it for the time being.

Tight track with slicks and additive I ended up with:
10k 100k(with some 80wt oil to bring it down a little) 10K
3x1.3 45tlr AE purple
3x1.4 35tlr AE white

I found a 1.8 ARB and bent it to fit, after tips from David Ronnefalk. I will see if I can get hold of a 2.0 at some point.

I tried rear outside hole on arm but found the rear didn't hold through the whole corner, it would wash out easier on power.
Went back to the inside and it felt better, that might be because of the springs selection but more testing to come.

Nice! Any pics? What surface?

mattr 28-11-2014 07:50 AM

Carpet, hence the slicks and additive!

OneKiwi 28-11-2014 08:07 AM

Tobys, of the car or track?

/tobys 28-11-2014 11:19 AM

Do you know where Ronnefalks setups are?

/tobys 30-11-2014 09:33 PM

Some are on Petit Rc, such as this one http://www.petitrc.com/setup/hotbodi...ippan20141123/

Nice!
Waiting for my Avid chassis. Finnish customs knows the concept of snail mail.
I thought that I can get by with sticky weights but just noticed that the avid has cut out places for their own weight system. Have to 3D print something and put stickies on there.

Have the part numbers for the ARBs?

OneKiwi 03-12-2014 08:32 AM

Its my own find in the pit box but have a look at some 1/8th ARBs

Ralls Racing 07-12-2014 10:16 PM

got to test the Avid Chassis on damp astro. back to back against the kit chassis, the extra weight really helped calm the car down and add consistency. definitely a great tuning aid and now available

jimmy 08-12-2014 03:41 AM

Sexy looking chassis for sure, on my theoretical d413 i want one. plus a one way tbey dont make :)

Richard Lowe 08-12-2014 09:03 AM

I ran mine for the first time this weekend, it makes the car loads more stable yet it doesn't lose any of it's agility - highly recommended!

OneKiwi 08-12-2014 10:59 AM

Shelle makes a +4mm in CF, from in front of the middle diff, would be interesting to test that in CF and alu as well. But the wallet wont allow it.:D

Have you had to alter the suspension in any way Richard to allow for the extra weight? Definitely going to get one of these. 👍

Richard Lowe 09-12-2014 12:52 PM

Not just yet, on Sunday I didn't get chance to change much as the turnaround was fairly speedy between races. It did feel like it would have benefited from going up 2.5w though which I'm going to try next time I run the car (so going up from the 40/27.5w that's in at the moment to 42.5/30w).

Pedros20 09-12-2014 01:44 PM

Cheers Rich, ordered mine this morning, looking forward to it coming now, looks a lovely bit of kit. 👍

Where did you order from? No one seems to have any in stock

Pedros20 09-12-2014 04:47 PM

Je Models, they had 2 in when I ordered mine.

Avid

Nope they're showing zero stock. Thanks anyway.

Darren Boyle 09-12-2014 08:41 PM

More stock of the Avid chassis, chassis sets and all accessories is due back in within the next 7-10 days. First batch sold out completely in just over a week......

Pedros20 10-12-2014 07:41 AM

Must have got mine in the nic of time yesterday then, JE Models have said its delivered, may have been the last one. Phew!!

Ralls Racing 14-12-2014 06:40 PM

just as well some shops still have stock then ;)

OneKiwi 14-12-2014 07:10 PM

Anyone running the floating servo mount with this chassis?

the dug 06-01-2015 02:45 PM

Any idea when the chassis set will be back in stock

MHeadling 11-02-2015 08:41 AM

I built mine with the included plastic weight in the front and alloy weight in the back, I've not played with the weights much just yet but it feels about right to me like that :)

MHeadling 11-02-2015 10:19 PM

Thanks Rich, I'll build it as per your suggestion

/tobys 12-02-2015 07:19 AM

I ran the Avid chassis last weekend on cold/wet astro. Started with as per Rich's suggestion above but felt the Brass in the rear was nicer for the conditions and track layout. Laptimes didn't really suggest much improvement though.

spindles69 13-02-2015 02:30 PM

I want it back 😁😁

MHeadling 13-02-2015 06:19 PM

It's a keeper for now! ;)

MHeadling 16-02-2015 12:59 PM

Now with floating servo mount!

/tobys 16-02-2015 02:24 PM

Any servo wiggle? I've seen the b44.3 (I think) one on YouTube flexing all over the place...

MHeadling 16-02-2015 05:36 PM

Just checked and no flex at all even with the EPA up stressing the servo, it's a chunky bit of kit

Who knows if it will make a difference but it looks cool so I'm happy!
