Vintage Ultima gear ratio

Hi all, I'm running the uprated 48dp spur with steel gear coupled to the delrin counter gear on my mk1. I'm running a 13.5t brushless set up and wondered what pinion to run?

I also have the kit 32dp spur as I've heard the 48dp gears are chocolate. Is my 48dp spur with the attached metal gear still made of chocolate?

Cheers!

Lovely :wub

How hard it is to fit the RC10 steering? Thinking about trying it on my Ultima MK1.

Gayo 01-10-2014 02:34 PM

Really? Great, thanks.

Boons 01-10-2014 07:38 PM

It's easy, enlarged the chassis holes and counter sunk. Then I've fitted the RB5 turn buckles.

gomachv 01-10-2014 10:57 PM

I have an old upgrade steering kit from a company that took Houge steering cranks and sold them as a hop up for an ultima. As mentioned above, bigger holes- that's all it takes

Ultima Pro gearing question

Hi all,

Is the standard 48dp dpur 62 teeth? And regards to pinion size for a 13.5t brushless set up to be used on carpet, what pinion size would you start with? I have a 21t on at the minute but not raced it as yet.

Cheers!

mr. ed 08-10-2014 02:26 AM

The standard spur gear on the pro is NOT 48dp but a metric pitch size. Can't remeber exactly which but either 0.5 mod or 0.6.

62 teeth sounds about right.

Regarding the pinion: just hear around what others have as final ratio and calculate back what your spur and pinion ratio needs to be to get the same final ratio

Boons 08-10-2014 07:50 AM

Thank you. So a 48dp pinion is no good? I'll try and find out what pitch it is!!

terry.sc 08-10-2014 08:09 AM

The Ultima Pro uses 0.6 module pinions.

Boons 08-10-2014 08:35 AM

Thank you. I'm about to buy some pinions, I'm useless at working this stuff out! I run the Mk1 gear diff and the pro spur with steel counter, also I have the alloy inner gear.

Any help on pinion size appreciated!

tahustvedt 08-10-2014 01:09 PM

My Ultima Pro has a stock 57 teeth spur gear. The pitch is 0.6 module. I confirmed the pitch by measuring the spur.

Boons 08-10-2014 04:54 PM

Thank you. I'm going for a 22t pinion and go from there.

Boons 10-10-2014 10:43 AM

You noticed? :D

mr. ed 12-10-2014 02:38 PM

oooh, I really hate the fact we don't get updates on subscribed threads anymore.
Must be over 3 years now. Makes me wonder if it will ever get fixed

You must be getting bored by now :D

alcyon 16-10-2014 12:22 AM

no, that's interesting with the shorty pack. If only I had an Ultima, I would design my own B4 layshaft for it and kick some Durango butt.

Gayo 16-10-2014 09:52 AM

Not bored at all, keep it coming! :D

Maybe you should group all your posts on the same thread? Just thinking.

I have to say that last pic is fantastic, really inspiring for the Ultima I am wanting to restore.

Twister 16-10-2014 04:43 PM

Looks great! I want more pictures so i can steal your idea's:drool:

Thanks guys

Just bought a nip UM27 turbo chassis too

DrPaul 16-10-2014 09:23 PM

Try fitting your servo across the chassis. Allows you to get better balance on the car by moving the battery forward for more steering & balance.
See pics here.

Were you an old Ultima racer too? Have you run yours on carpet? If so what shock settings have you gone for?

Ryan

Boons 21-10-2014 12:59 PM

Anyone have any set ups for the Ultima on carpet in terms of spring and oil choice? I understand the Kyosho small bore springs fit?

Boons 23-10-2014 09:08 AM

It was ebay, I've been looking for ages! I also have a nip cage too

Doesn't your lazer shaft also fit the triumph gearbox... which in turn fits the ultima (with little modification)

Trying to find it again!!!

Hi Guys, I sold this car a while back and really shouldn't have.....

I'm now trying to find it, do you know if the owner is on here?

Thanks!

mr. ed 14-10-2019 06:56 PM

Just wait a couple weeks for the rerelease to arrive and then start afresh

Boons 15-10-2019 06:02 AM

Found it! It’s in New Zealand 😱
