Moving! Where to race
So it looks like this winter I will be moving to SW England, Yeovil area to be exact. Can anyone point me towards some tracks in the area, I have never been there and absolutely do not know many town names or my way around haha.
My son and I both race indoor high traction clay tracks in Washington right now. Any help would be appreciated! |
I think Tiverton and Weston Super Mare (WORM) would be your closest tracks.
Take a look at the club sections for these and I'm sure you'll find some info and contacts. |
Depending on how far you wish to travel and what classes you have got
Torquay (micros and 1/10 and GT12) Tiverton (1/10 and TC) Yeovil ( I think they are still doing TC) Weston (worm) West Cornwall (1/10 and GT12) Liskeard (1/10 mainly or will cater for micro) Plymouth ( I think this is GT12 and 1/12?) And I think there is a new club started near Bideford area HTH |
what is the most popular classes in the region? On road? I just sold my TC of course haha, guess that gives me an excuse to pick up a Mi5 EVO now. We have off road buggies currently.
Thanks for the info! |
1/10 2wd buggies is the most popular
|
There is also Caerwent just over the Severn Bridge as well which is still in my opinion my favourite club out of them all.

TRCMCC
We have a club at Tipton St John which is between between Honiton and Exeter. We run every other Wednesday evening between 7 and 10pm. We run 1/10 Off Road. See our section here on Oople. We have a website which is a bit out of date but it does have a map. WWW.TRCMCC.CO.UK Cheers Paul |
Mendip RC Raceway
Hi there
Check out www.mendiprcraceway.co.uk which is just off the M5 at Weston Super Mare. We race all year round on our astro off road track fortnightly on Sundays plus touring cars on the national spec tarmac track. Cafe, covered pitting etc. |
Great, thanks guys, looks like I have quite a few options. Now I just have to figure out an astro setup for my buggies. Still dont know exactly where I will be living, but it will be somewhere around there.
Thanks Zak |
For 1/10th buggies on astro check out TORCH in Southampton, it's a bit further but I make the trip most Sundays from Bournemouth and it's well worth a visit:
http://www.torchracing.co.uk/ Also plenty of astro setups for most popular buggies here: http://www.petitrc.com/_forumphp/sheet.php |
Ive read about TORCH over on RCtech, looks like a pretty decent place. I have also read about only certain LIPO's being allowed for club racing?

I also recomend TORCH , i live not far from alex (Hotshot III ) , and also go to TORCH every weekend , acually drive past another track to go there !!.. |

Of course I sold my Schumacher KF a couple days before I learned I was moving, guess Ill have to make the SV2 work on astro. |

Sunday morning meetings are 9am until lunchtime (most of us get there for about 8 for practice etc.) and usually 5 heats and a final, all day meetings are 9am until 4 or 5pm and are 5 heats and a 3-leg (i.e 3 x 5mins) final:) |
Well the time is getting closer, I think I am going to pick up a touring car before I move, and besides my SV2, I also have 3 VBC Firebolts, which work really well on the high bite clay tracks we have here, we will see if I can get them set up for astro. What size motor do most people run on the local tracks there? We run 17.5 here mostly, and I know for a fact that is not the case there!
|
7.5 or 6.5 is the preferred choice for 2wd
|
Motor size
Hi
As I understand it Touring cars mostly run boosted 13.5's in the Southwest. At the Tipton club we run 7.5 or 8.5 in 2wd buggies And 6.5 in 4wd buggies. Do you know where you are moving to yet? Cheers Paul |

Thanks for the advice for a motor, I am probably trading one of my VBC chassis for a Touring car, so I will sell a couple 17.5's and get a 7.5 and a 13.5 |
I got my car for the move. I picked up a Team C TM2 V1, and will be picking up a 6.5 motor this week. My move date is getting close and I am ready to race some astro!!!
|
Cool! Mendip RC Raceways (Weston-super-Mare, used to be called WORM) winter series is currently 4 rounds in out of 10...and we're the only only outdoor track running in the SW during winter to my knowledge!
Next race is 11th Jan, check out our section on here plus our Facebook page for all the latest news. Be good to see another new face trackside if your up for it  Although we are outdoors, we do have covered pits and a cafe serving hot and cold food...so winter racing has never been so much fun :woot: |

Is there any tracks in the SW that race 1/8 e-buggy? Just picked up a RC8E in a swap and dont want to waste my time upgrading if nobody races them!
|
Swindon definitely do

I am now here! Are there any shops in the SW area (Yeovil to Glastonbury area) that sell Yokomo parts? I snapped a shock tower at an indoor carpet track the week before I moved!
|
Hi there,
I doubt it bud - you would be better off getting parts for your B-max2 from a shop online. MB Models, JE Models & Apex Models all carry good stocks of parts for that car. To backtrack a little with regards to your original post - I used to live near Yeovil (1987-1996) and there was a Buggy club there. It was held at Westland ( the same people that make the helicopters! ) sports & social club. We used to use their ballroom for the indoor racing and there was even an outdoor track, this was located at the far end of a sports field which was surrounded by a large scale model railway track. I had a look on Google earth recently to see if it was still there , but sadly it is not…… I believe the club folded sometime in the mid nineties. Hopefully next year I will be moving back to the south west ( most likely in the Taunton area ) and that will put me slap bang in the middle of the clubs of Weston & Tiverton - Happy Days !! Cheers - Rob. |
Give Rob a call at Southwest RC they can be found in the advertising section on here.

Indoors was the highlight of the year especially the section on the stage in front of the rostrum. PB Mini Mustang, MIH pushed 1200 mah cells and a Trinity 16 single motor. How they counted the laps manually doesn't bare thinking about. Good old days:thumbsup: |

That's how you were so fast Paul, i only had a 17 single. I used to love racing there in the winter polished floor the step down off the stage was awesome. Sam |
I just ordered the shock tower and some LP cut staggers from the US, the order should get here about the same time as my cars in my household goods shipment haha
