Losi Jrx2 / Jrx Pro for Racing!
3 Attachment(s)
Not seen much about the Jrx2/Pro on here, so here's my effort.
This is it so far, see attachments First picture is what it was like last week, the others a few minutes ago. Ta Brett |
Nice to see amongst all the rc10s and XXs.
|
I loved my jrx2and my jrx pro I would love another one now. I could be wrong but arnt the front wishbones on yours pro se?
|
Hi Gordy,
Nearly right, they are RPM super strong swept front arms, I've got some orginal ones too, I remember the swept pro se ones looked better but broke alot. Can't find them in the spares box. Anyone know a LHS that might have some old stock? |
Great to see another 'JRX' graphite chassis Losi being given some love! Are you intending to run this beauty or is it for display only?
I ran my 5-link JRX-2 during last year & I must admit it drove really well & I was impressed with how it stood up to the riguers of running with modern Brushless & LiPo electrics (I did run a slipper though). I also a have a Pro - would be interesting to run that one day & compare it to the older 5 link SWB car. I would highly recommend running your vintage - it really adds to the fun of owning these older cars  |
as i said i loved my pro and then i moved on to a pro se only kept that for about 3 weeks before selling it. it was an absolute dog compared to the old car
|
mine was one of the first jrx2's i then got the pro upgrade kit and ran it at Aire Valley for years. That's why it's got RPM front arms and LXT shock towers. Still got all the 5 link bits, but sold the short wheel base chassis years ago.
Dan I read your thread and watched your vids about your Jrx2. You amazed me with your collection and race results, and that's where I got the bug to restore mine. It will be race at York in the 540 class as I've not got a slipper, yet..... |
still want one :-)

Anyway, what are you doing on here at 2am!!! |
It's looking good Brett. Who painted your shell? Do you remember Stu Storey from BITD?
|
Looks great bretts! I love the paint job on the period shell:thumbsup:
Wish I could find a supply for a couple of new 'gold' trakpower batteries - they are the only batteries i've found that fit into the rear bulkhead of the JRX2 - I managed to get a 'Zippy' battery pack that fits in my XX but thats still too thick/tall to fit in the X2 without cutting :( P.S; you've got to try it with a 'proper' motor in the back... for me the fun of running these vintage racers is to race up against the modern cars - showing what these old cars are capable of (quite often surprising many people) Whilst I understand the logic behind running vintage as a seperate silvercan class... for me i'd find the speed (or lack of it) a little boring. |
Hi Neil, Stu Storey rings a bell, any more info? The shell was painted back in the 90's by Julian Alton in his garage (a 20+ year employee of Modelsport in Otley).
Dan, I'd love to get the slipper bits have put a 'proper' motor in but my gear box case has the small hole in it like you found out. Any suggestions? Have a look on hobby king site they do a lipo pack which is 22mm tall. I've got 5 trakpower thin gold bars!! Also, new Trakpower was on ebay 0.99p no bids. Collection only tho. still I should have got it and organised a courier. Thin battery options http://www.hobbyking.co.uk/hobbyking...arehouse_.html www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BS803-028-7-4v-3200mah-Li-Po-Battery-Pack-20C-Lithiumpolymer-Rechargeable-/360807119211 |
Brett, all I can really remember is he painted a lot of shells for the lads when we raced at Oaklands. He also ran a Losi with a sort of Subaru blue and orange paint scheme. The shells were backed in a light blue paint which he then signed 'Bodyspray by Stu Storey'.

Another step forward. :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup: |
Great stuff - you're now ready for a bit more power!;)
P.S; thanks for the link to suitable low-profile batteries.... just spotted those  |
Fingers crossed i'll be able to run it at the Iconic RC / A1 RC - Revival Meeting in the 2WD Pro 1989 - 1993 class with more grunt.

I've just booked in, I'm looking forward to seeing the vintage collections people have on display. Just need to source a decent 12v Battery for my charger, otherwise I might need a bump start at the end of the day. |
|
Looks perfect!
I'm going to be loosing out on 'vintage points' since my JRX2 is running brushless/LiPo & 2.4ghz :( I did however manage to find another two packs of the slim Trakpower 'golds'... which will hopefully mean I can keep everything charged up & ready to go (must admit I was worried about completing the race distance on these batteries with a less efficient brushed motor) P.S; have you done a FrSky 2.4ghz conversion on that old Futaba TX? P.P.S; Please replace your thin shock collers with some of the later 'thick' ones - the thin collers are pretty rare since they are so prone to splitting. |

We'll see, I'm starting out with a 27t stock and if there's enough left I've a few lower winds to try. 10x2 Checkpoint maybe!! Anyway, I've had an idea for a shorty conversion. I'll chat to you next Sun about it, see what you think. Quote:

Peakey - I've sorted a 12v but I'll bring my jump leads:lol: |

there won't be anyone charging from under the bonnet of their 1:1 car at the meeting and there shouldn't be anyone doing it at any r/c meeting where there are other more sensible and practical people around you. it is one of the most irresponsible things an r/c hobbyist can do because of the massive fire risks involved if a charging battery fails etc etc and having an underbonnet 1:1 car fire in a busy pitting area is a major incident! if you race outdoors, buy a £40 12V leisure battery next day delivered from ebay, splash out on a small generator if it'll be used more or get over the male pride and ask for help with power from other racers at a meeting... budget issue shouldn't come into it when you spend £££'s on toy cars in first place... its a necessity not optional bling! After having to sit for 2 hours at a venue after a meeting finished waiting to lock up because some ediot flattened his 1:1 car battery to the point it wouldn't jump with leads or bump on a gravel car park so had to call for breakdown, which on a Sunday evening was scarce, it is a sore subject anyways! Back to thread... very nice JRX  |

I wasn't going to go from under the bonnet mines in the boot
( I'm joking ) |
Ready for the indoor season :)
Updates :- 1) Jrx Pro SE front shock tower - thanks to Frecklychimp Mark 2) Losi threadred shocks - thanks to ebay £7.50! 3) Zippy 4000 Lipo - DerbyDan, it fits like a dream http://i1273.photobucket.com/albums/...psfeb9fa2a.jpg |
Pretty sure I've still got one of those stick transmitters back at my parents :)
Losi is looking good now! Quote:
|
Was great to meet & chat to you Bretts at the Revival meeting - the car looks as immaculately prepared in person as it appears in these posted photos, & looked great on the track with its period paint
The Zippy pack is worth noting - I was using the Gold Trakpowers the same as yours in my JRX2 & they operated fine, even with the 8.5 I was running! P.S; now you've upgraded to threaded shocks... do you have any plans for the thin shock collers off your old shocks?;) |

Dan, I was just not quite fast enough & definitely nowhere near the as fast as either of yours. It was tight on points in our class, just missed out by a couple of crashes as usual so I ended up 4th. http://i1273.photobucket.com/albums/...psd93ef726.jpg P.S. Shock collars are having a rest in my spares box, and probably never be used again unless I get hold of a short wheel base chassis to build an orginal Jrx2 from spares which I keep thinking about. If you ever need them you know where to find some. Also, Lipo was a bargain from Hobbyking £17 posted. I just got it to see if it would fit and if my old gold bars were losing any punch. |
Yeah it's definitely the same one, I didn't realise they were so well regarded. Although I do remember it feeling like a massive upgrade from my Futaba sport back in the day!
Good to know they can still be useful, now I just need to find a working 27MHz receiver to go with it...and some crystals! ;) |
It's finished!!
Well, my christmas present to myself was to get a pro painted bodyshell for my vintage losi jrx pro.
It arrived back this morning and a massive massive thanks goes to Darren at ExtremeFx for copying my other bodyshell design onto a Blue Groove Repo Jrx Pro bodyshell. So, it also concludes the restore into a racer, and it's now pretty much on the pace in it's class against modern 2wd cars. Final mods since last update have been RC10 worlds axels and steering blocks for B4 wheels, this has worked out well even if its a bit wider. I'm chuffed to bits!!!!! http://i1273.photobucket.com/albums/...ps216207d0.jpg http://i1273.photobucket.com/albums/...psc14330f7.jpg Thanks again to Darren, you're a star!! |
