Leighton Buzzard National

Just wanted to say a big thanks to the guys at Leighton Buzzard for an excellent days racing at the second National.

I'm well pleased with qualifying eighth at my first ever Micro event, and i'm looking forward to the others.

The finals weren't so good, with a bad start in the first and a take out in the second putting me down to last on both counts. Lap times towards the end of the second one getting up to speed and the car felt fast all day with very little to do to make it balanced.

Off to Wycombe now to get seriously 'airborne' and try to break the thing LOL

David Church 06-10-2008 05:44 PM

Congrats for making your first National "A" final:thumbsup:

Chrislong 06-10-2008 09:43 PM

Excellent meeting, ran well, great venue and great people. Nice to meet Chris Hampson! Looking forward to High Wycombe although very nervous of the amount of obstacles the track may have.

One comment, don't take this as a criticism guys as I know it easily can be, and I am mighty impressed with the quality of the tracks I have been to at LBRCC and Cobra. But I can't wait to race on a race track and not an obstacle course. Perhaps I should expect obstacle courses in this class? But it ain't half hard to put a clean run in whilst not colliding with other cars.

Oh, impressed too with the pre-meeting emails from Ben! Very helpful.

Now time to look forward, anybody got any links to pictures of High Wycombe tracks? :)

Body Paint 06-10-2008 10:06 PM

There are some discussions on another forum.

Apparantly the Wycombe crew are going to start the planning of the track at their club night, tonight.

From what they have said so far I think it will be an excellent track, with more of a mixed track style, rather than the sequence of jumps and features that we have had so far.

I'm sure the series will hold a good variety of tracks, something to please everyone. Roll on Wycombe

_sleigh_ 06-10-2008 10:11 PM

Bishop seemed to have fun at the weekend  (well except the rather brutal qualifying :o)

I like the sound of the points scoring system you run at Micro's. Point on qualifying which is counted twice as there are two sets of finals which score for separate round of the championship. So each meeting is actually a double header (que Lee for the joke :o)

Body Paint 06-10-2008 10:40 PM

It's great fun Sleigh, you see all sorts of different strategies.

Makes a change for Bish to have a good final.

Chris Doughty 07-10-2008 12:36 AM

I would like to see some pictures of the LB track!

Don't worry about the Wycombe track, it will be dialled! hopefully there will be some good sequence of corners to do the flat racing, and some good jumps with a ryth, section to play with too.

wycombe race on Saturday nights also, so if you are coming down to stay locally, everyone is welcome for the club night! - it will not be running on the national track, but you can get a feel for a few of the jumps and the feel for the track and carpet.

here is one from a previous weeks track

Smartalec 07-10-2008 06:48 AM

......as I said

I was only joking when I said i'd break it at Wycombe :(

Rear wishbone and shock shaft, but it costs peanuts to fix ..... and I was over 8 feet in the air just before the impact LOL. Would have been ok if it hadn't landed on its side.

More people should get down to Wycombe, it's awesome on a Monday with some serious airtime and very laid back atmosphere.

Looking forward to the National as the guys there really know how to lay a track out.

.... thanks to Carl for the bits

Didnt get any of the top corner but it was 3 small jumps on a 90' corner, straight, hairpin straight with small jump, then 180' corner over wood flooring then into the bot dots!!

:D If you are going to race micro's more often then get used to airtime! These little buggers are tough, very quick, they can do BIG jumps and take bumps with the best bigger off road cars out there so people are experimenting with all sorts of 'obstacles' to see what's fun and what's not. Leighton appreciate feedback as much as any other micro club out there and all of us try not to take things to heart too easily so don't be shy to air your opinion.

The reality is that the micro clubs\classes for most are still new and everytime someone runs an event they learn something new. For the most part clubs get it right and the events sure are fun. It's actually quite hard to build an indoor track that is challenging, fun and good to race on at the same time for 10 little rats on acid that screech around at light speed. Add into the mix a bunch of aggressive (but friendly :)) race drivers and it always makes for interesting racing. The tracks are tight and the cars open wheel so when there is contact you can always expect a little bit of carnage :woot:

At the Wycombe national your car will fly so stick some wings on  We are planning a 4 meter double lane cross over with the track twice crossing under the clear polycarbonate bridge. There will be a big near verticle wall ride, kicker jump, a drift section and a few other bits and pieces with some carpeted flat track thrown in for easy overtaking after a long sweeper corner.

It should be one of the best tracks yet. So come along and get yourself booked in! :woot:

Chrislong 07-10-2008 10:30 AM

This Micro racing sure is ace, it is very different to what ive been used to & I am enjoying it big time. Looking forward to High Wycombe - i'll be there on Saturday night (+Craig?).

Now then, I need to practice some obstacles!!!! :woot:

The clubs I have been to so far have a lot to be proud of, very impressive, the remaining rounds have a lot to live up to. Im hopefully off to Macc this Friday (anybody know any info?) so may have photos of current layout if anybody interested.

Danosborne6661 07-10-2008 12:13 PM

Awesome meeting at the weekend wasn't it! The track did have a bit to many obstacles for my liking. If things like the plates were removed and so on it could of been quite a nice flowing track, but never the less it was good fun at the racing was spot on. I was in the B-final though which i haven't been in before! God damn you 10th offroad boys knocking me down a few places, roll on wycombe and see you lot at the trackside :D

I hope you 10th guys like our Phat Bodies wings that a few of you bought :D

Phil - you should get yourself an LRP Shark and have a play, its ace!

Sure did Dan. They are exactly what I needed, and work a treat! Recommend to anybody wondering what wing to use.

You ought to put a thread in the "for sales" in here..... I was after a small wing for ages and didn't know you sold them til somebody mentioned you had them.

Smartalec 07-10-2008 08:16 PM

Interesting bits

I liked the look of your 'changed' Shark Monday Chris (Doughty), I'm not convinced it's quicker like that until i've tried it myself, but it was obviously ok for you as you were going well. I thought I was quicker round the flat areas and over the small jumps but once again the 'airtime' jump caught me out a few too many times, but i'm definitely getting better LOL

I won't let on what changes you've made, i'll let you tell .........but anyone wanting to know more about it, for a small donation to the Pirate acount.....I TAKE PAYPAL :D

Chris Doughty 07-10-2008 08:20 PM

Factory team secrets ;)

Sorry Alex, I am going to blow your money making scheme... I have swapped the rear end round to make it a bit longer and spaced the front upper and lower arms forwards by 1 'clip' by moving the front tower forwards and the front hings pin retainer.

for any more 'factory team' advise, feel free to come over to the saturday night club night

I did like my new power plant though, backflips on demand :D

Smartalec 07-10-2008 08:34 PM

Get Rich????

Damn it, how am I supposed to get as rich as you if you keep blowing my ideas for making money?

I couldn't get the back flip thing at all.......... kept landing flat on it's roof, what am I doing wrong Mr D?

Chris Doughty 07-10-2008 08:52 PM

you need to run full-fat foams, none of this touring car esque truing down and stuff, out of the packet and onto the car

Smartalec 07-10-2008 08:58 PM

Sounds good, but what about what you actually do to the throttle when you approach the jump and when you are actually on it ......... and then when you leave the damn thing?????

I WANT TO DO IT:wub

Chris Doughty 07-10-2008 09:07 PM

on that high angle ramp come up to it about quarter throttle, near the take off punch it and leave it punched while you are in the air, about 3/4 of the rotation for the back flip start to back off so that you start to line you car up to land it, throttle or brake as you would normally to nose up or nose down to land it

Smartalec 07-10-2008 09:24 PM

Right, got it ............. can't wait for Monday now. How cool can it be to do this to order? ...... I envy your talent , but then again, i'm fatter than you and fatter people are harder to kidnap!!!!!

I'll order the bits in now so I can repair it on site LOL

Danosborne6661 07-10-2008 09:55 PM

Doughty - Whats the new power plant then?
If you haven't seen the new vid on www.worm-racing.co.uk, you can see my car backflip there also!

All about the flips :D

Chris Doughty 07-10-2008 10:05 PM

I'm rockin an LRP Sphere comp in there right now... and a hidden motor...

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3262/...8bcc2d.jpg?v=0

just need to find somewhere to put the switch

Danosborne6661 08-10-2008 12:17 AM

Nice! I'll also be running a Mongoose motor but with a Tekin RS ESC
They are nice and small, so should suit nicely!

With the sphere, i'm guessing you get a nice amount of brakes? Opposed to the mongoose ESC

frogger 08-10-2008 08:02 AM

I'm looking at getting a Tekin RS Pro speedo myself to see how it runs with the Mongoose motor. It could be the way forward :D

Danosborne6661 08-10-2008 10:32 AM

Carl - If I were you I'd go for the normal RS
The RS Pro would be a bit pointless in 1 of these micros, the RS would do it perfectly!

The RS Pro is also taller which we don't want in these (Even if you do have a flatty shark)

RS Pro - (33 x 25.4 x 15.25mm)
RS - (33 x 25.4 x 11.5mm)

The reason they are different sizes is because the RS Pro has 3 circuit boards stacked up on 1 another, I think this is to allow for the faster motors? Yet the RS only has 2. I got a RS Pro in my B4 and i'd say it is a bit tall for the job, the RS is spot on

Smartalec 09-10-2008 07:44 AM

Can anyone tell me where to look for the results for the National series? ..... I know where I finished but i'd like to know how everyone else ended up :D

Hectic at times? Times being 5 minutes long yea? :woot:

Smartalec 09-10-2008 06:24 PM

Yep, manic from the buzzer on the first final and then even more manic on the second final ..... but I didn't get nobbled till the second corner on that one LOL

Still, i've learned a lot and was happy with the qualifying ...... just need to get the car flying straight as an arrow for the Wycombe mayhem now :D

Chris Doughty 10-10-2008 01:20 PM

wycombe will reward the driver that stays cool, keeps their head and keeps out of trouble.

Danosborne6661 10-10-2008 02:07 PM

I got some snaps up :D
