New TRF body

Any news about the new TRF body?

Each to their own, but .

jimmy 05-10-2008 04:35 PM

I think it looks pretty decent

But no, I've not heard anything about a release date.

AaronR 05-10-2008 04:45 PM

No stiffener behind the layshaft! Never thought about leaving that off, not that I will start...

Is that a single thick rear shock tower or a doubled up one?

Oh, and the body = yawn.

Alan1467 05-10-2008 05:13 PM

Split top decks and new belts as well

Howard1650 06-10-2008 09:22 AM

I like the new shell. It looks easy to paint, plus should have a little more room in side then the 501X or 501XWCE.

sosidge 06-10-2008 09:22 AM

Split decks might be the Azarashi items? I think Chris P has been running those also in all conditions for a bit more flex.

jimmy 06-10-2008 09:32 AM

Not sure if Azarashi have new ones out? but these aren't the Azarashi topdecks from what I can see - maybe just hand cut from the originals?

Agree : the Azarashi topecks I have are made from laminated CF, not woven CF.
BTW, the Azarashi topdecks work very well when running on low grip tracks. Highly recommended.

Also : did anyone noticed the strange arrangement of the front stabilizor ?

The body : again each their own, but I prefer the kit shell or the Tateego.

chrispattinson 06-10-2008 11:17 AM

Correct Dave, I am running the Azarashi top decks, they work very well at Jarrow on the slippy floor, and also run them on the rear if using lipo on medium grip surfaces.

The tateego shell is the DBs, plenty of room with original styling. I do like the new shell shown here, but it's a little generic, it doesnt shout TRF.

Umm looks a little like my modded 501 with the split top decks, the belts are the same inner colour as xray belts.

I would love to get one of them shells i think they look pretty cool.

jimmy 07-10-2008 07:27 PM

What's this modded 501 of yours all about then Jonathan? anything exciting?

OldTimer 07-10-2008 07:34 PM

2 Attachment(s)
Pics attached.

Nice! are you planning on releasing any of that stuff? Are you coming racing with the bigboys at Worksop any time?
So are those XRay belt(s) in your car?

Man, I'd love to know too if another (stronger) rear belt would work. At least in my 501, front belts last TWICE as many runs as a rear. Then again, the center pulley may go bad before one of those XRAY belts which would defeat the purpose.

Front belt is from serpent and the rear is xray, these are both different sizes from standard, as the motor is moved 15mm forwards compared with a standard 501, as you can see only a low profile servo will fit :D

If you look closely he is using some xtra stablizer ends to hold the bar centered. Otherwise is looks the same as the others.
I think.

jimmy 08-10-2008 09:26 AM

You crazy man Jonathan! - is this your main 4WD ride now or just a project?

Chris 26-01-2009 08:25 PM

Any news on the TRF body?

I will try to contact one of the TRF drivers for more information soon ....

CAClark 26-01-2009 11:11 PM

I'm no expert or anything, but it looks way nicer than the 501X which looks quite nasty i think. Not the primary consideration for serious racing I dare say, but still

On this subject can anyone help?

I've been told to save the rear belt we've got to buy the DB01 #54061 Double Slipper Clutch Kit and the 501X #84034 Double Slipper Clutch Main Shaft.

Again I've been told that this helps both the front and rear diffs when under extreme acceleration and when taking big hits off jumps etc?

Can anyone confirm this, it's expensive and don't won't to buy a gimmick !

Cheers

AaronR 27-01-2009 06:35 PM

My practice is this... stock up on rear belts. When replacing a new rear belt (and 18T pulley), set the tension TWO notches looser than what the sheets in the package tell you. After about two race days (6 5-minute runs or so), I tighten or set the tension ONE notch looser than what the sheets in the package tell you (in other words, tighten the belt ONE notch from the setting when the belts were new).

This gives the belts more life (roughly 25-30 5-minute runs). This is for my a Novak 6.5 Light powered 501X raced on high-traction indoor dirt. I now have a 7.5 Light in mine, so belt life may increase even more.

purplenut 29-01-2009 11:30 AM

cool looking shell, where could i get the blue screws from???

qatmix 29-01-2009 01:07 PM

I've only driven my car for about 2hrs with my 5.5, but the belts seem fine to me. (Mine is the original 501x with small pulleys), What things make them break?

Howard1650 29-01-2009 09:08 PM

I've had about the same run time on a6.5 turn motor with the 18t pulleys and had no issues with belts.

telboy 30-01-2009 10:12 AM

That shell looks just like the HB or the JC shell for the same car.

Can't see it mate, just looked at both shells?

Colinevan 04-02-2009 10:11 PM

Guys, you must be running them too tight, i ran 2cars - 501's.

1 std and 1 worlds. over prob 2 years of racing.

Never ever replaced a belt, running a 4.5r indoors at bury ( large track )
Outdoors at southport and bury.

Had the slipper reasonably tight as well, with the diffs only as tight as they need to be so that they dont slip.
