Vintage

Hi all,

Here I go again. I have just taken purchase of a Cougar 2 Works...:D this is the rare Cougar 2 Works Racing spec part number U453.

I have been lucky to get Works box, Works instructions and all paperwork for amendments of the Works spec and part numbers included.

There are a few spares and brushed motors included along with a full front and rear spring kit including blue, grey, yellow, white and black.

Gear cover is excellent and is complete and will be doing a full strip down and rebuild of this beautiful Cougar and doing a step by step picture build with brand new parts that i have and can get.

I will also be taking before shots of the Cougar 2 Works.

I will post pictures later. So on with the Rebuild.:thumbsup:

CAT3K 25-02-2014 01:31 PM

Nice :) Does yours have the roller driveshafts and ball raced steering?

Just curious as there are 2 works models U452 and U453. It seems as though Schumacher changed the spec slightly between 1992 and 1993.

Paul.

xfactor 25-02-2014 01:39 PM

Hi CAT3K,

No it does not have rollers, but has the ball raced steering.

Chrissy C 25-02-2014 01:41 PM

You're just showing off now Mark lol!

Enjoy the rebuild mate, look forward to the pics. Is the condition of the car good? Chassis marked up much/at all...or did you bag yourself a shelfer?

xfactor 25-02-2014 01:46 PM

No chassis is scratched alot but will be made good.....:D rest of Cougar is very good to be honest.

Moozo 25-02-2014 02:35 PM

Hi all,

Price I'm betting, U452 was the full fat kit, U453 was minus the ball raced steering and roller driveshafts, but I suppose most people ended up buying them anyway.

Paul.

Amassed quite a few bits for the works cougar over the years!!

I guess they sold the two option spec cars together like the Club/Racing/Team spec option for the original red chassis Cougar2?

I've got a Cougar 2 Works also - a lovely car.. but I do need to get my chassis re-anodised one day! I wonder if anyone knows of somewhere that does a good match to the Schumacher Purple?

CATS 25-02-2014 05:06 PM

Also have my prized new in box kit aswell

I had a similar thought, the picture of the U453 label above says "racing spec" My U452 just shows the spec.

Schumacher did make the kits as Race and Team spec Works. They also did a upgrade kit so you could upgrade you Red cougar 2s to Works spec. You got a template that you fitted to the chassis this allowed you to drill the new holes and trim the chassis sides to allow for the new gearbox. You also got new gearbox plates and center transmission case. It was to aid different peoples budgets............

I will continue tomorrow with pictures of before shots and the rebuild.....

If you look at my pic u1354x is the cougar 2 works rear transmission conversion kit you mentioned, I can take some pics if you like of the parts that come in the bag

xfactor 25-02-2014 10:33 PM

:woot: It looks like it CATS, is there a template in the bag.

CATS 25-02-2014 10:53 PM

Yep, it's made from fibreglass, same material as team car shock towers. The kit consists of purple works motorplates, lexan gear cover, fibreglass template, and fibreglass rear shock tower (not carbonfibre for some reason) , work inner trans housing, also instructions on how to use the template. I'll get some pics sorted tommorow

So the Cougar 2 Works is totally stripped now. I have started with the gearbox showing diff, belt etc.... how it was removed from Cougar to it being totally cleaned up.

Moozo 26-02-2014 06:25 PM

nice job Mark........do need new parts for it?

BORMAC 26-02-2014 09:01 PM

Good man! I'm really feeling the love for my favourite 2WD buggy of all time. Can't wait to see what you do on this one.

xfactor 26-02-2014 09:27 PM

Hi BORMAC, I have to agree with you. There is something about the Cougar 2 in general that makes it special with it fans and probably the most followed schumacher IMO . The Cougar 2 WORKS on the other hand is something else and I have to say that the WORKS is my favorite as well.

Keep an eye on this build because I have something special coming for this build very special.....;)

xfactor 27-02-2014 03:54 PM

Diff and Layshaft Build !!!!!!

So I started the build of the diff and layshaft. Diff has been completely cleaned and greased up. The layshaft has been polished up along with all spacers. The idler has also been removed of a greasy covering and now spotless.

So heres the start of the Cougar Works rebuild.....:D

Peakey 27-02-2014 05:20 PM

Quick question ( maybe a stupid one ) but how do you know if the ball bearings need replacing or is it a case of take it apart clean it up and if they look ok re grease and put back together. I ask cus I have a mms diff set that needs doing.

Moozo 27-02-2014 05:55 PM

Booooooo associated diff lube in a Schumacher build :woot::woot:

xfactor 27-02-2014 08:28 PM

NeilRalph77 03-03-2014 12:47 PM

Just out of curiosity do you need to shave the front wishbones slightly to fit the pin brace or is there a slightly longer hinge pin?

xfactor 03-03-2014 12:53 PM

No Neil,

Its a kit you get and in the kit you get brace, longer hinge pins and E-clips. You dont shave anything matey.

xfactor 03-03-2014 12:58 PM

So why I have been waiting for the new parts to come for the Works (which they have :D) I started to clean up the shocks. First picture is how they were removed from buggy, Second picture how they are now. Fresh oil has been installed as well.
