Hi all,
After seeing Chrissy C couger 2 restore it brought back some fond memories as i raced these back in the day. I had the Team and Works versions. So after searching I finally found one. Well it was in a state of well lets say well ragged dont think it was a racer who had it. So i have totally stripped it and working from ground up. The chassis and a few bits have been sent to HYDRO-MAN RichyUK on here for him to work his MAGIC on the chassis. Thanks..........Mark. |
Ok,
I will be doing a rebuild thread on my Couger 2. I will be posting pics of the build starting with the gearbox, diff layshaft etc.. After finding some brand new Couger 2 instructions and original sticker sheet both in packet I have started the restore of the Couger 2. Pics later. |
The more build threads the better i say, each person has different styles/ways of doing builds will be interesting reading for us all.....;)
Do it Fresh Prince....:p:p:p Mick |
HAHAHAHAHAH nice will do Mick i will keep it Fresh :D if it lets me upload.
|
Ok then, the pics it would allow me to upload shows the diff stripped cleaned parts renewed where required. Layshaft stripped and cleaned. All parts ready for gear box. Side plates are with HYDRO-MAN RichyUK along with chassis. When i get back i will post pics of these parts.
If you click all photos you can zoomie zoom zoom in :D |
Ok, so a little update on the Couger 2 rebuild/restore. While im waiting for the chassis and side plates to be finished, I thought I would start cleaning up the old plastics and fit new where needed and also what I could fined.
So the front hubs have been stripped cleaned and have ceramic bearings fitted. The front end also has a new front bulkhead, new hinge pins complete, new front hinge pin holder, new front carbon fibre shock tower and new purple nuts. The front wishbones are mint so was really lucky as the rest of the Couger 2 was well used so I think these must have been replaced at some point. The rear also has new rear hubs, new rear carbon fibre shock tower, new rear hinge pins and new nuts. Again the rear wishbones are mint and like the front must have been changed as both do not represent the condition of the couger 2. Next on the list of cleaning is the ballraced steering posts and parts and the steering mechanism. So here are a few pics so far and as soon as the chassis and side plates come I will go back to building and completing the gearbox. Dont tell the Mrs ive stole the pastry brush :D |
Mark,
Please remove this thread and pictures at once - your pictures are far better than mine :D Looking good so far mate. Rich is a top guy and will sort the chassis out nicely, what design have you gone for? Any before shots of the car? Bets, Chris |
Hi Chris,
HAHAHAHAHAHAH I will remove. Ive gone for black and candy purple carbon on chassis, candy purple side plates for gearbox and black and candy purple on diff/belt adjusters and layshaft bearing holders. Got a penguin-rc body shell ( steve_haskins) on here and must say for the price the quality is fantastic. You get body, nose, wing and side parts for the wing. Chassis and parts are at Hydro-mans as we speak so cant wait for results. The only thing I didnt do was take before shots but ive asked Richyuk to take pictures of the chassis before and after to give you idea of the condition. |
So on with the clean, the ballraced steering has been stripped clean and ready for chassis. All bearings through out the couger 2 have been cleaned and oil has been placed inside. The shocks have been stripped, lard has been removed and fresh oil installed.I have been able to get new pro shock bodies for the rear (dark green) but havent been able to get new bodies for the front, these do have slight marks on the top. So if anyone has a set for the front new or mint please pm.

I'm enjoying this re-build :) You are a man after my own heart... very neat & meticulous!
Good to see that you are using the alloy shock seal housings - these transform what are quite average shocks into much better ones ;-) Also I need to find some new old-style black ball cups for my C2 Works - as mine has the incorrect grey 'ballgrippers' |
Thanks Dan, more pics coming :D
|
I have just had to put these on. These are brand new front Aerodisc wheels in packet. I also found a set of 2 row stud (green) 2.2 tyres brand new in packet for the wheels.
I would like to thank my fellow oople brother Carlton (MOOZO) for helping me out with the front wheels. I also have brand new rears coming soon as well :D |
No worries mate
Hope you didn't find them tyres on ebay and pay that price!!!!!! C. |
:blush::blush:
7 pound posted. |
tut tut tut......
|
Hi all,
Just a update on a few new bits posted through my door :D I now have a complete new set of aerodisc wheels, brand new body, wing, nose and wing tips. New 2 row stud in green for front and new spikes in red for rear although I have new full spike, mini spike and mini pin so havent made a choice yet. Also managed to get a set of new white rear springs to match new grey spring fronts, and I have managed to get a new transmission case for the gear box. I would like to thank Northy for the rear wheels and transmission case. I would like to thank steve_haskins for the shell and including the nose just like the original top stuff mate. The chassis and bits should be ready soon so the real build will start then :D |
Was that pretty much the accepted setup then white rear, grey front?
|
I used to run back in the day, Rear white and yellow front in wet. Rear yellow and blue front dry. On grass that is, with either TR32 HARD on rear wet and the 2.2 two row stud on front studs wider apart. Dry Green mini spike rear and the standard two row stud studs closer together. Some good results with that. Others may use greys up front.

Start of the PAINT !!!!!!!!!!
Ok, I am still waiting on chassis and bits, but its not gonna be long :D So I thought I would start the paint.
Now thinking of a scheme was a little tricky as I didnt want a modern paint scheme. So I went for what I used to have back in the day. Inspired by the Works paint scheme of when that was first shown. Ive been spraying bodies since 1990 so have some knowledge :D. I have started with the wing. I was lucky to get brand new in packet original decals and instructions and when it came to it thought should I use them. Oh well I did and placed them where I had them back in the day. I will fit wing tips once wing and tips have hardened. Colours used are Pearl Purple, White, Black and Fluorescent Orange. Hope you LIKE........ So here is the start of the paint the wing and body to follow. Click once on pics to enlarge Click again to zoom in :D |
Me like, gonna look good with the chassis and other bits done:D:D

The Cougar2 is still my all time favourite 2WD. |
Ok, the day ive been waiting for. The chassis, plates and bits have been posted through my door by the best post-woman ever :D.
After careful opening at looking at the parts all I can say is AWESOME !!!!!! RichyUK has made a fantastic job of the parts. The only thing that I wished ive had done is take before pics, but will do on my next rebuild ;) I will be posting pics shortly after I have stopped looking at them. |

Was this the car that inspired the paint job on your original Cougar2? http://www.petitrc.com/setup/schumac...2Works_028.jpg |
Yes Dannyboy, thats the cougar matey. Think it was in either Radio Race Car, Model Cars or RCcars.

Chassis and parts.
Hi all,
So finally the pics, thanks to my brother Carlton for sorting. Its hard to get the true colour with the pics but hope you like them I sure do...:D Click on pics to enlarge......... I will post pics of the gearbox build next..... |
Gearbox build
The gearbox went together really well. Once it was together I wasnt happy with the belt tension as it was a little tight in standard setting as per instructions. So went one click looser and this felt good. I fitted a new spur, new thrust race to the slipper with TI balls, new transmission case, new complete screws throughout and of course a purple nut to finish. :D
Again click on pics to enlarge......:D |
Chassis build
Tomorrow I will be starting the chassis build. I will start bolting on the front and rear ends. I will post again pics of the progress...........
|
Good work , looks great
|
S W E E E E E T !!!!!
That carbon effect on the chassis looks amazing! So this would be the 'TEAM' version will colours and effects to suit your own unique taste. I've got a whole lot of Topcats, Cougars and Cougar2 cars and I find the gearbox very efficient out on the track. I continue to watch your build with abated breath. |
Thank you Mark and BORMAC. Yes this is the Cougar 2 Team, Although one alloy roller is broken and waiting for some to turn up, new plastic will be fitted then switched over. But back in the day some of the schumacher team drivers would remove the rollers anyway and fit the plastic as after a few runs the bearings would seize up. But they do look good. So on with the BUILD !!!!!! :D
|
Do you have the part for the driveshaft mate?
