Xcelorin Sensored Speedo Problems Help needed
Out racing and my speedo was playing up with not been able to get the power down, it was cutting out and not getting full power. And it stopped dead 2 times in a final, and then started again after a few seconds.
Now someone else had the same problem with 2 of his speedos and he was having the same problem as me. But my car was working the week before, now 2 cars having the same problem on the same day? Has anyone else had the same problem? Needed help |
I had this today in my final. It seemed ok then the power dropped off
to about 30% then was ok again few seconds later. This happened a few times and I eventually gave up and retired from the race. I thought it might be voltage cut out (it was the second race with the same 4900 Lipo) but when this has happened before the car just stopped abruptly, so this seems to be something different. After the race I put a fresh battery in and it seemed ok, but I will have to do some more testing to see if I can get this to happen again. |
Plug the speedo into your pc/laptop and have a proper look at the settings, make sure you have 0%throttle limit and 20-30% brake, also make sure you have got the reverse throttle limit set to 100%.
Have you updated the firmware from the Losi website (foc). Try the above, if you are still having problems drop me a pm and we can try some other setting. Have you both had this problem with lipo's onlt, or has it worked ok with normal cells?? What lipo voltage cutoff have you set, is it set to 2 or 3 cells, as if it is set to 3 cells the cutoff is preset to 9v, whereas 2 cells are set to 6v. Hope that helps. |
Initial Acceleration - Use this to limit the initial power that is sent to the motor when starting from a complete stop.
Using the LOW option, the vehicle will launch very slowly and provide the longest run times. When using the HIGH choice, you will have wheel-spinning acceleration at the cost of run time. This is also very tough on the batteries as the amperage draw can be very high. If your vehicle cuts out, hesitates or loses radio control, you should consider setting this at a lower value. v Low Using this option will provide longer run times and is easiest on the batteries. Good choice for beginners. v Medium Medium requires more from your batteries, and is good for low traction surfaces. v High This option will provide full acceleration and requires stout batteries to supply the load required in this setting. CAUTION: You may experience what seems like the motor cutting off, a hesitation or possible brief radio loss using this setting. Taken out of the manual. I had exactly the same problem. Once set up on the pc it was fine. You dont lose top end...must be a fail safe. Try with no load on the road, all would be fine..add grass and stop!!!:) |
Just had a look at my settings
Lipo - 2 cells 6v (that's correct) Brake/reverse - Forward w/o reverse Throttle Limit - 20% ????? (I set the throttle limit on the programming card to 80% so I don't know why it says 20% on my computer) Reverse Throttle Limit - 100% Motor Timing - Normal Initial Acceleration - High Braking Percent - 30% ????? (20% on card) Percent Drag Brake - 15% ?????(20% on card) Legacy or 2.4GHz - Legacy (I have 2.4GHz radio) Neutral Deadband - 3 It looks like the programming card hasn't sent all of the correct settings? The firmware needed updating as well. I'll change all of the things that are obviously wrong and see if it makes a difference. Alex |
Why would you want to restrict your throttle?? set it to 0%
try this setup Throttle Limit %0 Rvs throttle limit %100 Motor Timing Normal Initial acceleration Medium Braking %30 Drag brake %30 Neutral deadband 3 |
If it helps my card never actually program's the speedo correctly, I just end up taking my laptop everywhere now!

80% seems about right. I'll defiantly try the other setting though. Thanks. |

Yes, that's probably the way to go. |
Guys, regarding the setting cards! We have found that although Losi tell you to just wait for the ESC LED and the card red LED to come one, this itself is not enough, wait for at least 30 seconds or so after for the programming to "fully" exchange between ESC and Card. We tried to change an ESC to have reverse for a basher and plugged all in, waited for all the LEDs to iluminate but nothing. When we left it 30 seconds it worked.
I have now tried this on several setting changes to see if "time" was all we needed to add and it has now proved to be, since this method has worked on over 10 ESC's. Try it for yoursleves with somthing simple like turning on reverse (easiest thing to check it has uploaded!) and then just switch it back once you have proved this is your "upload" problem. If you change back to forward only try just quickly try waiting for LED's only and I would bet that it doesnt work, leave it plugged in on the second try for 30 seconds and you should have success. I had the same problems but in different ways.......
First i gave my mate a Xelorin sensorless combo (brand new) to try at the west kent meeting today.... and it glitched like a bugger!. We tried loads to get it working but it was having none of it. So not to be outdone i had a 2nd Losi setup in my B4 with me. This was the Xelorin sensored type linked to a novak 6.5 light. Now i used this car all day last sunday and at the coventry finals with no problem at all and all i did was swap it to his xx4. But this system also glitched like mad! We re-programmed / reset it to his sanwa trasmitter at the trackside but to no avail. The car was cutting out all over the place. So tonight ive put it back in my B4 and again reset it to my KO trasmitter and its 100% tickety boo perfect....strange.....:confused: |
Well I think I might of been the inital acceleration?
Setup Lipo cut off: 6.2v Throttle limit: none Reverse throttle limit: 100% Motor Timing: Normal Initial Acceleration: High Bracking: 80% Drag Brack: 30% Legacy Neutral Deadband:3 I have dropped the bracking down to 30%, dropped the initial acceleration down to medium which I think might have sorted the problem sorted I hope:thumbsup: |
Im having a few problems with my xcelerin speedo, i had it in my 501 and it was wroking fine, iv swithed it over to my B4 and the motor runs backwards? i have re set the speedo, changed the reverse on the tranny (sanwa) and it makes no difference?
I have loaded the software, so good so far, but when i plug the USB adaptor to the ESC it see's it and the light goes green on the PC screen but comes up with 'Read Error 113!' any ideas whats up?? |
Iv got it to see the speedo now (both green lights on screen) and iv changed the reverse rotation setting and press the 'send settings' button and it comes up with 'Send Error 3!' bloody computers!
Any help would be much appreciated! |
Well got a new speedo today because I had blew something on the inside, don't know what has happened. But should be up and running for the weekend.
|
Check the speedo end of the usb thingy (technical i know!) mine gave me some error messages then fell to bits. i had to re solder the output that goes into the receiver plug and it worked fine after that. Also make sure you have the latest update on your speedo, they don't like it if they are out of date..........
|
I have got a replacment speedo as mine would not recieve data from the PC, anyway just put my new speedo in and things seem to be ok but every now and again the motor stalls ( makes a screecthing noise ), from low rpm and gets a bit hot?
Im using a 4 * lrp vector motor i had in my motor box, any ideas what setting I could change to overcome this? I used this motor with losi speedo in my 501 with no problems? |
Mark, that is the noise and symptoms they show if the sensor lead is not in correct or loose, try that mate...
|
Hi Darren, tried the sensor lead, tried 2 x new ones in it and 2 x motors and it still coggs? im getting fed up with it! my lrp nosram are great just plug them in and they work! just getting frustrated with it now, and its my second one!
|
Iv spoken to Horizon ( who were very good on the phone ) and I have sent my speedo off to them for a look over to see whats up, maybe 3rd time lucky with it!
|
hi guys,so whats the story with these babies then? are they just not up to it? or is it just worth the extra and get a proper novak/lrp/nosram one?
|
losi xceleron
hi mate. personally i'd say it's a poor effort from losi and they really need to sit and think this one over. i thought the novak GTB took the pi*s but losi went the extra mile i'd say.
just give me castle creations mamba max anytime. all best..migsy.:D |
Why do you say this? On what grounds.....
The return rate in relation to the number sold is lower then most other brands on the market currently |
Darren TBH i work at a shop and of the 5 weve had in out last order 3 have gone back, with differing faults.
I do wonder if its a duff batch as mr coxall saya hes never had so many returned. |
Yes BUT most of the ones that Ryan is getting back have not had faults on them, but have been setup or programming issues. When set up correctly and tested on the bench more than half those returned have proved to be fine.

I chose to ignore the Mamba comment Cris for that same reason.
Having just spoke to Ryan at Horizon this afternoon regarding a few issues on a Losi Clutch and a helicopter, has has also just informed me that he has just had a fair number of Xcelorins tested today (four were from us) and three quarters of them are all being sent back to the users with no fault found, some of them (the ones concerning our customers) we were told had been uploaded with the latest firmware and when tested by Horizon they were still running the old version not ther latest. As I have siad, yes there are a "few" going back at presnet but more than is neccasary since many of them are working as they should when tested. Our four are all coming back to us today or tommorow and will be re-shipped to their owners. New Technology is a great thing but it can be a pain when it is not user friendly and/or the owner is not using it as they are supposed to. |
brushless
not at all, the mamba-max is just a far better system and i will say in confidence that : i am not the only one that will say that.
|
The mamba system and its sensorless technology is great for recreational and bashing use but is not the choice for racers who require the smoother, precise low end control of a sensored system (regardless of what make it is)

I've had more problems with getting the speedo to remember settings.
I set up the speedo on my computer and then read the settings to make sure the speedo was set correctly. According to the computer the speedo took the setting I wanted ok. I went to my local track for a practice and the car just crawled along as if it had been set to 10% throttle. Luckily I had the quick programing card with me and set the throttle to 80% and it worked ok. A couple of days later at a race meeting I decided to change some settings at the track with the programing card I started a race and within a couple of laps the car was cutting out and then back in again as my previous post. I later tried to reset the speedo with the programing card and it worked ok. This is with the latest Firmware and all other hints provided above. (30 second wait ect.) It seems that it will sometimes take the correct settings and sometimes it won't. (Depends what kind of mood the speedo is in when you try to program it.) I've tried to talk nicely to the speedo but that doesn't work either. Alex |
Alex, out of interest are you running yours with a 2.4ghz radio?
|
Yes. A T3VC with a Spekrum module SM1001 and a SM3001 receiver.
|
Thought so, try it with your module removed (ie on 40mahz) or can you turn off the HRS mode on the radio? If you can, I am certian this will cure your problem altogether. ;)
|
I have been running this speedo since it was released and I have nothing but praise for it never put a foot wrong and for the price you cant go wrong. I put the update on last night very easy to do and I am computer eliterate. It seems people are changing the setting for no reason once I have set mine and I am happy I leave it alone.

I'm not too sure if I have HRS mode on my radio as i've never heard of it, could be wrong though. I don't really want to go back to 40mhz (I don't really want to start changing crystals again and was even getting interference with 40mhz at my local track). If this turns out to be the problem I will just have to ditch the Losi setup. :( |
It wont be that drastic, Losi are working on the 2.4 ghz bug, it is a known problem with only a small number of radio/speedo options
|
One Horizon product not working with another Horizon product is poor testing imho
|
Its not the Spektrum that is the problem, it is the donor handsets that are causing the problems (KO, Futaba etc)
|
Well I am running the ko propo 2.4 ghz with my xcelorin, I had a issuse with it not hitting top speed. But spoke to a losi driver at the eden park and he said that I put more brake on the ko, reset the speedo and didn't have a problem since. And the speedo didn't put a foot wrong, a shame the car:cry:
|
I got my speedo back today from Horizon, they replaced my one. Thanks Horizon!
