Track design thoughts...

We've posted a couple of tracks in another thread and I thought it might be good to create a thread about tracks so that everyone has a chance to give some input...

To recap, a couple of tracks have been suggested for the next couple of meets:

For the 17th:

http://www.oople.com/forums/attachme...1&d=1389445947

For the 24th:

http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4568a098.jpg

Anyway, this is more light hearted. I came up with these two (had a spare hour...) based on real tracks:

Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya

http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/...psd6b79ccf.jpg

http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/...ps15b738ec.jpg

Road America:

http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/...ps7f914ee2.jpg

http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/...ps3fc68fc8.jpg

I am not suggesting we do these tracks, I'm simply trying to spark some discussion :)

reg 13-01-2014 04:35 PM

Tbh they all look good,
Best thing is to try them and see what happens, the one with the straight up the middle usually leads to a few more mishaps with batting cars landing on it as a car hot foots it up it,but it is a nice one to race on though

Chris56 13-01-2014 04:39 PM

These look ace mate - problem with recreating F1 circuits is that they often have empty spaces, but these fill the floor quite well. Could you also do Interlagos?

cunawarit 13-01-2014 04:46 PM

I could do :)

It is all about finding the ones that could fit in the rectangular space easily and using a lil creativity to fill out the space well... I could have done Indianapolis, that was the easy route ;)

Chris56 13-01-2014 04:53 PM

Maybe also look at Moto GP tracks as many of these have a rectangular footprint and have a good tight in-field:

Estoril
Sachsenring
Mugello
Valencia

cunawarit 13-01-2014 05:09 PM

Interlagos...

http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/...psbc4d6431.jpg

http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/...ps16afeb8f.jpg

Might be a lil dangerous at Subida Los Boxes as touring cars leave the track at 50 MPH and go into someone's face ;) Maybe a couple of obstacles to create a chicane before it.

PS: Estoril is probably perfect!

cunawarit 13-01-2014 05:34 PM

Estoril:

Chris56 13-01-2014 05:40 PM

Now Estoril looks cool!

cunawarit 13-01-2014 05:56 PM

I suspect these would be a pain to put together though :) But it would be cool to have at least one track based on a real life circuit :D

........ If only Martin could build a 1/10 scale version of the Laguna Seca corkscrew. Here's my Mini going down it ;)

Dave Dodd 13-01-2014 06:03 PM

These are awesome.

That mini looks cool. Yh the corkscrew would be brilliant.

siddus74 13-01-2014 07:22 PM

That's my Porsche behind it

Scott.

leedolby77 13-01-2014 07:59 PM

And my F1 is in front……….:p

cunawarit 13-01-2014 10:33 PM

LOL! great imagination guys :)

So any chance we could try one of these? I quite like the look of Road America track.

msmith105e 14-01-2014 07:23 PM

Corkscrew you say.......... hmmmmm

Dave Dodd 16-01-2014 10:58 AM

Sticked this, so post all track plan ideas in here for discussion and possible future use. Cheers

cunawarit 16-01-2014 03:41 PM

OK, we have discussed replicating 1:1 race tracks. But how about replicating world class RC tracks?

I give you Oulu 2013 EFRA European Championships, the real track:

As recreated in VRC:

As recreated by me, and mirrored for safety:

A couple of videos of the real track:

Chris56 16-01-2014 06:08 PM

Looks like it will fil the hall nicely.

I say "if it looks good, run it!"

leedolby77 17-01-2014 10:11 AM

I like the look of that!, the buggies might find it a bit tight but everything else should be fine.

Well, they should drive something a little more precision and finesse ;)

Anyway, let's try it then. :D

Robbiejuk 17-01-2014 01:11 PM

Gui will be pumping in some practice laps on vrc now.

cunawarit 17-01-2014 01:50 PM

HAHA! I would, but I haven't got that track and I am too broke to spend the money on stuff like that right now :)

If only we could recreate VRC Carpet 2 or Rhein-Main :)

reg 17-01-2014 11:53 PM

Really enjoyed the track tonight
Loved the relaxed racing in clubman also, something went wrong with the car in every round and the final but it was so much fun running LEE's creation,
Hard work to hang with the F1's BT a good challange, roll on next week :)

cunawarit 18-01-2014 12:38 AM

I thought the track was ace too! Really fun, loved the tight bits. And something went wrong with my car in every race too!

In the first race I killed a silvercan (confirming my hatred of sealed can motors without an internal fan).

Then on the second race I lost a wheel (stupid Mardave diff design!).

Then on races 3 and 4 I ran out of batteries (Bloody NiMHs!).

Next week will run lipos... Car should be lighter and quicker.

siddus74 18-01-2014 02:13 AM

Good laugh as always, may run the 6 wheeler next week as the f104 is heading for the bin .... Oh and the TB04 may make an appearance to battle with Charlie as my Herbie just didn't have it in her tonight :-(

Just want to say that Martins TA looked well sorted tonight ... Cheater :p

Scott

cunawarit 18-01-2014 08:52 AM

I love your car set up approach Scott :) If it works GREAT! If it doesn't, bin it! ;)

siddus74 18-01-2014 09:03 AM

It's got way to much adjustment for me and I get understand it all ... Tamiya cars normally just work

Ooo, do you want to sell it??

cunawarit 18-01-2014 09:23 AM

You haven't had a TL-01 :-) versatile, you can make just about anything out of it. But assembled as per manual... it really is a good for nothing POS.

Chris56 25-01-2014 10:42 AM

Last nights track was ace, nice design Gui:thumbsup:

So what will it be this friday?

msmith105e 25-01-2014 11:55 AM

I really enjoyed last nights track well done gui ;-) the only ammendment that could possibility be made would be to the triangle infront of the rostrum to remove the 90 degree marker that claimed quite a few victims last night. I think the track for next week is going to be put to a public vote :-)

The Doctor 25-01-2014 12:58 PM

What sort of amendment were you thinking of Martin? Looking where you're going, for instance? :p

reg 25-01-2014 01:19 PM

Really liked the track, although iv never been a fan of the straight up the middle,to many cars going in different directions in close quarter(Q the Pun from Paul!) but the 20 year old F103 survived my best efforts to destroy it due to its lack of anything resembling a setup,or even the right bits to put a setup on it,
Looking forward to getting it sorted,

Must admit to getting the F1 itch again now there are a few more appearing. Can't decide whether to stick to off-road or to switch to the F1 for a while...

msmith105e 25-01-2014 04:31 PM

8 Attachment(s)
sorry for the poor quality..

cunawarit 25-01-2014 04:38 PM

6 looks good, and 8 with no long straights looks kinda different. :)

Dave Dodd 25-01-2014 04:58 PM

Look good Martin, thoughts on which to use for this friday?

get your votes in

cunawarit 25-01-2014 05:48 PM

I vote for 8, no long straights :)

PS: Thanks on the compliments for the track :D I enjoyed it too, shame that my car didn't ;)

msmith105e 25-01-2014 06:38 PM

i like number 8 too, maybee gui could set it out on the graph paper like last weeks???, makes it easier to set up then my microsoft paint monstrosities

cunawarit 25-01-2014 07:27 PM

No worries, I'll draw the winner on graph paper :)
