Cat K1 Aero
New updated K1 coming - http://www.racing-cars.com/pp/Car%20...1%20Aero.html#
A nice evolution Carbon chassis Hex wheel fitment gear diffs big bores. I've got the K1 and like it and ironically have done 3 out the 4 upgrades.. |
Does it come in Mint or Orange flavour Mikey ? :p

Not long had my k1 great car. Do hope schumacher bring an update kit out for currant k1 owners to make into aero spec.
|
Theres a few diffrences ..chassis , top deck , layshaft carriers , body wing , shocks , diffs and nut protecters
|
can it carry a shorty lipo ?

Anyway, it was 'clear' it was coming, but I guess I'm surprised by the amount and nature of the updates :o It's looks like a really nice bit of kit, though I'm happy I bought an 'old' K1 last week: I think the ball diffs will work better for me :) Edit: Just wondering, what's the thickness of the new carbon chassis plates? |
IMO This is what the car should have been from day one typical schumacher behind everybody else yet again

Any idea how a Carbon chassis will perform compared to the aluminium chassis?
Like the wing. Looks like it's been stole from Batman's car! |
I think you'd have to consider the new top deck and the way it's mounted and how the carbon is laid, I don't think we will know for sure how the chassis flex will compare between the two.
I know Schuey are saying the flex has been optimised and for me the K1 has quite a rigid chassis set up so who knows till we get to build the car. Perhaps someone who has seen the car can comment? |
Running Carbon or an alloy type of chassis is the racers preference, how many others give you the choice. it seems that no matter on what type of track you race on then having the choice of chassis, differentials, size of shock absorber etc can only be a good thing is it not.
I have changed my SV2 alloy chassis to the composite version and found it gave a softer response to the handling. I expect in the summer when the grip comes back, I shall return to the alloy version to see if it is better for me under different conditions. |
TBH bit gutted, but have most of upgrades already, knew top deck would change as people have been breaking them including me.
I think the chassis and big bores is to satisfy the US guys who were bending the alloy chassis (dunno how) . |
most of the top uk team run big bores, so logical move to allow set ups to be copied easier

Ive bent 2 in the last year but never broken a topdeck ..the aero top deck isnt a straight swap afaik due to the new mountings |
Since I'm new to the K1 (running one, that is)... Where does the chassis tend to bend, and the top decks crack?

So looking forward to Christams, its going to be "MINT" :D

The original K1 is a great buggy which goes great (not that great by me mind) and is very nicely built.
The new Aero has a few nice new features. I'll be ordering one. |
Double post
|
Ok you lot
The aero is what the k1 should have been IN MY OPINION I don't give a toss if the small bores where the best setup according to schumacher I'm not saying the k1 is a bad car far from it I quiet like it but if they had put big bores and gear diffs maybe they would have sold more well at least one more. Stu. |
Or one less ,if someone does not like the way gear diiffs and bopig bores work.
ps do you know the lottery numbers for saturday |

I personally do not like the geared diff but I doo like the small bore shocks? If schumacher had sold the K1 with geared diffs when it first came out then I probably would not have bought one lol BUT hay ho lets all just have fun and enjoy racing with loads of banter lol |
personally i like gear diffs especially in 4wd, had them in all nitro vehicles i have used and once you've the oils sorted you cant really go wrong, fair enough that they have the adjust-ability of a chieftain tank but they have worked in all forms of vehicles so why not tenth off road. :D
big bores are a pain but thats prob just me not setting them up.:blush: it will be my 1st new new electric off road car ever :wub |
What manufacturers should do is supply all cars with big bores and small bores, and ball and gear diffs.......everyone's a winner then!.

Honestly, I'm abit underwhelmed by this update.
Whether small bore or big bore, ball diff or gear diffs, they can be tuned to whatever anyone desires with the option parts. As I run mainly on dirt tracks, these are two factors that I will not get it: 1. The flex on the original K1 is rather rigid. It is hard to get it right for the car to be fast on tight infields. Schumacher did not state exactly what the new top deck exactly improve. The arms do come in medium flex as standard now. 2. The new CF chassis seems to be designed exclusively for carpet/astro. The holes under the spur and motor mount will only allow small rocks and fine dust to get in and kill some part of the transmisson...probably the spur first. And no, I don't believe in sticking small pieces of lexan to cover it, or use an undertray. |
k1 has always had med flex wishbones. there is the option of a carbon or s1 chassis option
those holes can also let stones out! |

From what I'm told, the chassis are all a straight fit.

When's it out anyway?
