A Final

This Year 2008 First National A Final 1/8th Truggys Round 1 at the tender age of 34 only took 22 years !

F1 -- oh thats that formula thingy you have with them dinky toys ! :woot:

Was F2 back in 1998 or sometime round then !

Gnarly Old Dog 15-09-2008 03:56 PM

Time to set the way-back machine Herman!

The year was 1988 and the venue was Mansfield.
One leg A's back then - managed a 5th if I recall correctly.

Gained my F1 licence during the first year they were bought in - can't remember rightly but it must of been about 1990/91. Back then, you had to make 2 A or B finals in the season to get the top grade.

Age back then - now that would be telling but 2010 will see me eligible for the vets under the current rulings:p

_sleigh_ 15-09-2008 04:01 PM

You must have had that all written down in a diary or something, cause there's no way you could have remembered it at your age. :p

Nearly Phil but not quite!

I have to have a good memory to be able to recall the times when I used to be quite fast - that's all:thumbsup:

Remember - the older you get, the better you were!

niggs98 15-09-2008 04:22 PM

1st National A: Tiverton, 2wd. 2003. Qualified 4th, finished 2nd. Aged 16.

Gained F1 in 2001 I believe... aged 14, think I finished 28th in 2wd to gain it.

Youngest ever national A finalist was Craig Drescher and I THINK he was aged 10, could have been 9... I wasn't racing then, have just heard the story.

woOdy 15-09-2008 06:48 PM

I did it in 1993, At Bury Metro and I qualified 2nd. Age was 18 but I have an even better one than that! It was with a TRAXXAS????????:woot: Didnt do very well in the finals but the year after I won every leg and I got called rotten for it. Horses for courses, they called it. Has anyone else won at there home track? Let me think! Did they get called it. NO.

matdodd 15-09-2008 07:24 PM

I got F1 in 2000 & my First National A final was Tiverton 2003 Q5th F4th!

ashleyb4 15-09-2008 07:32 PM

Q4th finished 9th

_sleigh_ 15-09-2008 08:45 PM

Gained my F1 back in '99, and barring a year break due to none racing I've had it ever since. Not sure ont he year of my first national A, but I remember it was at Aylesbury in 2WD running a borrowed XXX KE. Can't even remember where I qualified or finished (how bad is that).

My sad bastard racing memory is kicking in here... you were using a XXX with a stars and stripes shell... Glyn Stuart's was it? and you qualified 4th... just in front of Richard Taylor who won his 1st national that day from 5th on the grid. Don't know where you came, think the year was 2000.

matdodd 15-09-2008 10:23 PM

:o O my god I remember that shell!

Southwell 16-09-2008 06:54 AM

Even i remember back that far!

Mossy 16-09-2008 08:08 AM

Didnt Robbo make the A with his xxx?

Chris Doughty 16-09-2008 08:17 AM

I can't remember, I know it was broxtowe in 2WD, 1993? that would have made me 13, but I have no idea on the year, I got in from heat 6 or 7 though.

Broxtowe was ace!

_sleigh_ 16-09-2008 08:21 AM

Chris, remember that RRC meeting at Broxtowe in the heavy mud :o:o

First A was i think 2003.... qualified 4th as holbeach:) got F1 that year:)

Bradders 16-09-2008 03:31 PM

First A was at Kirkcaldy in bonnie Jockland... qualified 7th, finished 4th. I think I even managed to beat Craig Drescher  which was the coolest feeling as a young whippersnapper! It was in 1995 methinks (need Yardy's memory for that). I'd have been 13 and got my F1 that year as well.

Lee Martin 16-09-2008 03:37 PM

my first A was Hampshire....i was 16, qual 10th! scraped it!

Got my F1 that year too!

i remember phils first, but knew yardy would too. qual 4th. remeber the body and remeber marshalling it! hahahahah!

Bradders! superstar!

_Bish_ 16-09-2008 05:45 PM

Made F1 in 2001 and made my first national A at Kidderminster in 2003 at the age of 27 qualified 9th and finished 6th, I was 2nd in the first leg until i realised Neil had crashed in front of me and i had Tricky and Chris behind me, then i crashed on the next corner ended up 4th in that leg.

My 2nd A final at Bury St Edmunds is my best days racing, After 2 rounds i had my name read out as TQing the meeting:thumbsup:

Lee Martin 17-09-2008 08:48 AM

_Bish_ 17-09-2008 08:59 AM

Phil Channon 17-09-2008 09:26 AM

I made my first A in 2006 at Telford, at a young 37. Qualified and finished 10th. The finals were cancelled. Something about rain?

I also got my F1 that year too.

_sleigh_ 17-09-2008 10:39 AM

I remember the meeting. You and Mr Cree made the A from heat 1 and 2. You were a proper little mard-arse back then.

Not much has changed since:p

My first National 'A' was in 2003 at the tender age of 30.
