Xray XB4 2WD #360500
....
|
from that pic the shell looks odd.
maybe an option to mount the shocks forward or rear of the tower |
....
|
I'm curious whether they have left open the option to put a diff in the front or if they've actually made a more 2WD-like front end (in the case of a 2WD front end: in combination with a motor and shorty at the back would make front mounted rear shocks more logical, right)?
Anyway, I'm glad they called it the XB4 2WD... much like the post mentions, it kind of implies they have plans for a more universal 2WD, which I would love to see :) |
with the kick up on the chassis i doubt whether you'd be able to fit a front diff and front centre driveshaft. the top deck and bulkhead would probably be different. i wonder what motor / lipo layout they've used?

post says many shared parts with the 4wd, so I expect rear will be similar and front different. Hope its similar to the 4wd, as that's awesome.
Might be tempted if it is. Saddle configuration would also tempt me, if shorty then I would re think. don't want to have to buy more lipos. either way, I am sure it will be awesome like the 4wd. |

I wonder if Xray will make a new version of this car in 2015 ( or even sooner)...
|
Yes they will
It's just guessing now, but the quality will be good knowing X-Ray. Don't like the body, but that's something you can work around on. :woot: Guess the rear will be a lot of the same, front will be different. Maybe some gull-wing like front-arms. More as the Durango has. |
I can't believe I'm saying it, but I kinda like the cab forward body on it. Cab forward is here to stay, it took me a long time to like them, but I'm going to get one for my XB4 (4WD).

well the price is out just waiting for pictures and a full spec?

Surprised there were no spy shots from eos.
Will be replacing my lazer with an xb4, contemplating replacing the db1 I have, just for some spares commonality. I would imagine this new 2wd front end will carry over to the proper 2wd when it appears. |

is this the DMX body that is also available for the 4wd? or is there another to be released soon??

I find the shell kinda cool! And that paint job is just smashing! |

It's tomorrow... :D
Any idea as to ETA on the 2WD kits btw? I don't see why it couldn't at least be like the DB1 with saddles. Maybe even like DB2 with shorty on one side. But my bet is on DB1 style = most like the XB4 4WD layout. Would be great to have a 2- and 4WD car with most parts in common! |

I just found this on de Xray XB4 '14 website :)
" The split chassis is compatible with both XB4 & XB4 2WD " So with saddles like the DB1 :) |

Thought Xray would of at least centred the servo.... Peoples homebrews of the XB4 look better than XB2 IMO. The fact the rear diff is actually accessible I love though! Looks like 4 bolts and out comes the diff :D

Got to be honest pretty disappointing in my opinion from Xray, proof will be in the pudding when they hit the tracks. But to me just looks like they have cobbled a 2wd together without having to create hardly any new parts. I agree that the chassis Chris has modded should work so much better on the high traction surfaces and looks a better job.
|
Have to agree with you guys here,i was looking forward to seeing this right up until i saw the pics,if i had the choice i would run the car Chris,S has made himself as that will work in all conditions far better,i see xray's car suffering in low grip much like the DB1 did, hence the DB2 to work in all conditions.

Xray 2wd
Well not sure about it yet will wait to see how it does first plus I'd rather have Chris's conversion.

I think it looks great and is exactly what I was expecting – a lightly modified version of the 4WD without the bits you don’t need so £50 cheaper. Just what people have been doing themselves for the last year. I don’t think Xray are trying to present it as much more. Is definitely on the list of “maybe” cars for me for next year but have to agree that if you are already running a converted 4WD XB4 there is probably little to get too excited about.
What is more interesting is the trend of trying to move the weight back a bit (motor further back and shortie lipo) as post above. A previous thread on here was debating whether you needed 3 different cars with different motor layouts (rear, mid and forward) to be competitive. I think the general consensus was no you don’t need 3 cars but do we now really have 4 options to choose from – rear, traditional mid, shortie lipo/forward (DB2/TM2) and full forward (DB1/XB4 2wd)? I am disappointed as well. I was really hoping for something with an XB4 rear end, but with a front end designed specifically for 2wd. Similar to the DB1 / DB2 or TM2. This just looks like a lazy attempt at 2wd. :(
It will probably go well enough, but then so do everyones XB4's when they run them in 2wd mode. |

I think it looks great! And I like that fact that it shares 95% of parts with the 4WD. Only thing I find a bit odd is the wide chassis in the front, but if it don't rub then no biggie I guess...
I find the new Losi 22-4 interesting as well, but it's a shame there's almost no common parts with the 22... What I'm wondering is: Is the DB2 better on all tracks/conditions or is the DB1 faster on high grip astro? I was planning to have one of this kind (XB4 2WD) and one Night Fox XL for low grip dirt tracks (or in rain conditons) (B4 with T4 chassis and FTW body). |
I was hoping for a little more tbh - more weight at the back etc as the XB4 as a 2wd does suffer from rear end grip issues in the cold and wet.
Don't know what to do now, was waiting on this to make a purchase but I'm a little under whelmed tbh |
