Just got back from the first race at the new CML Raceway, I have to say the track was excellent as well as the hospitality. Great stuff.

That looks like an awesome track! Where is it exactly.
Whats the track made of aswell?

mini-ripper 29-10-2006 10:18 PM

It is near Newbury. The track is both astro turf and tarmac. It has a very funny type of grip when damp. Very very good though

Nick Goodall 30-10-2006 10:01 AM

Well done for making it down all that travelled, hope you all found it ok!

It was an excellent days racing, and everyone seemed to really enjoy it.

Look forward to seeing the pics Jimmy, i'm hoping you managed to snap a few of my old B3 ;)

Nice to meet you by the way!

Thanks again!

don't put your car down in the middle of the straight during practice, or if you do make sure it is in front of the world champion, guaranteed a picture then:smile:

Nick Goodall 30-10-2006 12:50 PM

I think it was a beginner, they just put their car down there to start practise - not the best idea as the outside of the straight is the best line for the corner at the end of it....

Southwell 30-10-2006 12:57 PM

I think it's happened to most of us at some stage. I bet he won't do that again though!

xx4-nutter 30-10-2006 01:07 PM

what was the surface of the track like on tyres ?

did it eat them ?

Chris Doughty 30-10-2006 01:28 PM

I ran 1 set of rear tires all day, I did try something else in 1 round but I put the Bow-Ties back on for the final.

with it being wet, it didn't really do anything to the tires at all.

2WD anyway

xx4-nutter 30-10-2006 01:30 PM

ahhh ok, jst with it being partly tarmac and stuff i bet when its dry it will be a litle harsh on tyres, but apart from that , the track looks really smooth and flowing, rather like the american tracks of clay

There's only two sections of Tarmac, neither of which you need to accelerate hard on..... one at the end of the straight which is banked, you just enter it with a bit of speed and don't need to accelerate off it as there's a drop off section that requires you to be going fairly slowly to accurately land on the down ramp. The second section is over at the back left after a double jump, then you head back towards the rostrum and have to slow down for the adverse camber corner so again you don't want/need to accelerate that hard either.

I used 2 sets of Already worn Pro-line M3 step-pins and by the final they weren't worn that much more then when i started.

Just to avoid any confusion, the section below where Craggy's car is broken is Black Astro, and just at the top of the pic is the Tarmac section - you can see another car on there.

http://www.oople.com/rc/photos/cmlra...ges/cml010.jpg

Chris Doughty 30-10-2006 01:52 PM

and in the dry when there is more tire wear on the tarmac, there is loads of grip on the astro so you can still get 6 or 7 runs out of Proline tires (Bow-Ties in perticular)

jim76 30-10-2006 02:07 PM

i ran BB green spike in 4wd, 1 practice and 5 rounds, and they were bald at the back and not much better on the front. Put a new set on for the final.

Ellis seemed to try various sets of tyres. I only tried sch greens and they were far worse than the BBs.

xx4-nutter 30-10-2006 03:30 PM

ahhhh sweet. what sort of ride hight was every one running, level bones all round or was there some with a littlle more hight to handle the big jump ?

jimmy 30-10-2006 03:34 PM

I was just level bones. to be honest the jumps werent savage on the car (unless you got them horribly wrong) since there were down-slopes to them all.
you got some decent air in places but you had somewhere to land - rather than landing flat-bottom.

Nick Goodall 30-10-2006 03:35 PM

I personally ran the car as i would have done on any track, most of the jumps reward you with a down slope if you get it right so i didn't need to change the shocks at all - just ran a trusty old set-up (no extra Pack or anything) so i think most B4's etc would have probably been set-up as normal??

It's such a rewarding lap if you get it right though, i've not driven another track quite like it!

xx4-nutter 30-10-2006 03:37 PM

:D sweet, how did you go jim ?, any good ?

P.S ill be in touch some time this week about some name decals for my losi, as the shell and car are still coverd in " david mudford " AKA bathy right ? lol

jimmy 30-10-2006 03:41 PM

ugh, get those off quickly :p
I didnt go too badly to be honest, I was happier in my final and went from 8th to 2nd, finished 3rd in the end. I was driving the X-6 smoothly (at last) and it was rewarding me.
I think I really needed some different tyres but I was too busy taking photos to really think about that.:)

Lee Martin 30-10-2006 03:47 PM

and good ones to!

xx4-nutter 30-10-2006 04:00 PM

hehe as soon as i get home from workt ehre off lol, howd u find the x6 compared to the b4 then ? any better or is it jst a gimmick ?

im not saying its jst a fad , the x6 looks the bollocks but does it work :D

id like one lol

B4's were 1-2-3-4 in the A final, can you argue with that?

I was one of them and I have never ever raced a B4 until then!

Nick Goodall 30-10-2006 04:05 PM

I think the real test will be when Ellis starts running his? Surely if he doesn't carry on making National A's the writing's on the wall?

To be fair there was only one X-6 that i saw, and that was Jimmy's review car?

Lee 30-10-2006 04:07 PM

Chris, i imagine you ran the xxx cr, after your first meeting with the B4 how would you compare it to your first meeting with the losi, i know your not going to say the other was crap but what is your honest opinion as there is nobody better qualified to answer this question.

jimmy 30-10-2006 04:08 PM

Yeah, but youre ace.
Not sure yet mate, it was a hard track to get used to in the wet with a car I had no idea about setting up.
I have run it before and thought it was good, I think it takes some getting used to though as it needs a bit of a different driving style than Im used to (ragging it)
Gonna take it for some more tracktime though yet.
When I had little steering early on (running wide ribs) I had to try and pivot the car around corners using the brakes - it didnt like that. When I had proper tyres on it was more a case of just driving around the track and I could turn inside people most of the time.

xx4-nutter 30-10-2006 04:17 PM

cool stuff guys. by the way jimmy i love the pictures of the track they look awsome :)

xx4-nutter 30-10-2006 04:19 PM

by the way chris. which car do you prefare over the 2 you have driven which is probibly on the minds of a lot of drivers.

Losi ?

AE ?

;)

i know its only early days yet with the b4 but does the future look promising ?
