SkyRC Toro TS 120A

Just bought one of these:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3309761435...84.m1423.l2649

SkyRC Toro TS 120A. From what I can gather it's a re-badged Hobbywing V3.1. Should do the job!

I've been looking at one of these too. how have you found it?

Sturdy 10-08-2013 09:38 PM

I'm sure these are the same, but just rebranded from speed passion/hobbywing

It's a smashing looking wee thing. Haven't actually run it yet, but quality looks excellent.

The Tyranosaurus one looks similar. Nearly all the speedos in the world seem to be made by Hobbywing.

Which is good.

have you tested this speedo yet
i have just ordered one as a spear

Chris56 04-09-2013 04:31 PM

I've got the Leopard 9t combo from SkyRC in my truck and can't fault it. Identical to the etronix photon, but a fraction of the price.

tdi250 30-09-2013 12:31 PM

So I've bought a Toro TS120 now also and have put it in my DEX410v3 with a 6.5 motor.

Only done some test runs on the road outside my house so far but it's bloomin fast and didn't get warm.

Not got a programming box yet but its on its way, so I'll have a play with the settings and I'm running it at Kiddy this Sunday so I'll know more after the weekend.

Its a nice looking and well made piece of kit though. The built in power button gives it a high end quality feel too.

Wes, have you tried connecting it to a genuine hobbywing box?

Thanks

Paul,

I haven't tried a hobbywing box.

I've got one of these on the way, does it look similar to ahobbywing box?

tdi250 30-09-2013 03:16 PM

I have to say it looks identical to a hobbywing v3.1. All the connections, the power button and everything is in the same place as the hobbywing.

I'll try and find out about the firmware and post back on here.

tdi250 06-10-2013 04:42 PM

So I ran this ESCin anger today for the first time.

I was at Kidderminster running my dex410v3 ( also for the first time), it was a very warm day in the end, I ran a 6.5 turn motor all day which was getting pretty damn warm by the end if a race but the SKYRC toro ts 120 did not miss a beat. Perfect all day! I must say I'm thinking about buying another one for my 2wd.

Considering i won mine in an ebay auction, brand new for 32 quid its the bargain of the year.

dadtc3 23-10-2013 10:39 PM

Does anyone know whether the genuine hobbywing box works on this ??

OneKiwi 24-10-2013 05:38 AM

How are people getting on with them?
easy to program?

Why not just get the original program box and save the hassles

Swell 24-10-2013 07:34 AM

My mate runs one had it 6 month no bother never change any setting as he has no programing box....

By the time you buy a prog box and esc in the uk you might aswell buy a vampire (with real customer support and warranty)

leelar 24-10-2013 05:21 PM

I got one from eBay for £45 for the speedo and £6 for the
Box off the same UK seller

madmax 24-10-2013 06:58 PM

I've been using one for the past 2 months and think it is an excellent esc

These are made by Sky RC and NOT Hobbywing. The Hobbywing Programming box is reported not to work. Having said that it's own Programming Box works fine and I have to say it knocks spots off my old Hobbywing ESC.

The most noticeable difference is the power of the brakes. I have them set at 100% and when you slap the stick back (or the equivalent bit on a steering wheel transmitter) the Toro nearly locks all its wheels solid. Bang! You've stopped!

Acceleration is impressive too. I'm running a 6.5t HPI Pro Flux and am able to run it with a 3 tooth smaller pinion - and still get the same top speed!

Clever little blue box...

??? Vampire ESC is around £120, the toro is £45.

Swell 25-10-2013 08:33 PM

£65 uk plus prog box £15ish total £80

leaves £40 for qulity plus backup warranty easy as hell to program smooth and fast

I have heard reports of tax on imports....

If you cant afford a the price of one with warranty you cant afford
to be without a warranty (imho)

mihael 28-10-2013 06:24 PM

hi there
is it a cheap making speedy or high quality speedo?
i am thinking about getting a lrp flow works team or this toro

mike

Darrin70 28-10-2013 07:37 PM

I run 4 of these, the new v1.05 software really improves the throttle and breaking... For the new price of $79.90 with a smart program box and free shipping from RCmart you can't go wrong!!

mihael 28-10-2013 09:25 PM

Is this esc for competition or just for fun?

How have you set it up as I have just got one for my tm2 with a hpi 6.5 and it seems a bit slower than when I had my hobbywing in

Hi Darrin,
No I haven't wouldn't no how to, if I'm honest I feel the brakes are a little weak I am going to play about with the brakes they are on 100% but I need to find out what 1st and 2nd stage brakes are, it's my first speedo using a programme board I'm a LRP man as a rule

Hi Lee,
I am geared 24/85 on a cheap turnigy 6.5 and turnigy 4300 shorty cells, it's standard settings as per modified paperwork in the box, boost at 10 and turbo at 15 it's whatever it said plus a bit on turbo for good measure, but I set the turbo on rpm only and brought the rpm down to turn it into a animal , it was the fastest car there by a mile, I was struggling to hold onto it a bit and I'm no slouch!

leelar 31-10-2013 09:13 PM

Thanks I have not had a chance to play with the settings yet but that sounds a good place to start

leelar 12-11-2013 11:16 PM

has any one updated the software to v1.07rar yet or no whats the difference is

minty 20-11-2013 10:18 PM

Hows everyone getting on with these speedos? Good performance and reliable? None blown up or randomly failed on anyone?

DynaMight 20-11-2013 11:08 PM

I havent got much to compare mine with except the 210 RTR speedo but its been perfect so far, been to 2 meetings and not had any issues. Software works well, although not perfectly catered for us English chaps but good enough. Program box does a good job too, plus can test servos/motors/battery voltages etc. Thinking of getting the bluetooth adaptor too, since its only £13 delivered.

I'm very happy, hopefully it stays that way :woot:

leelar 21-11-2013 01:04 PM

I am very happy with mine and have just got the Bluetooth module which works perfectly with my nexux7 for setting the speedo up but will not update the software as the app will shut down

This sounds positive as i have got one arriving soon with a programming card. I think you may be able to update the software/firmware using the program box as well. (instead of using the skylink thing or the bluetooth module)

Yeah you can use the program box to connect the ESC by USB to a PC, but I have found it a little temperamental, sometimes the software doesnt pick it up. Once it does, it works fine but just takes some playing. The Skylink works great so I tend to use that if I'm plugging the ESC into the PC.

Also the Skylink uses a Mini USB and comes with a cable, but the Program Box uses MicroUSB (same cable as most Android/Windows Smart phones) but I dont think you get a cable in the box.

One annoying thing about the Program Box is the battery voltage part, you have the pins on the side for your balance port, I just assumed you could plug the balance plug straight into it but it doesnt fit, so I had to make a cable using a 3 pin Fatuba plug and a female part of a balance port extension cable.

Is there any reason why the 150a version for 1/8 scale couldnt be used in a 1/10 buggy? Only reason I ask, is ive been looking at these for a while now for my tm2 and the 150a version is slightly cheaper on ebay than the 120a version. It will be for running a lrp x12 oct wind 6.5t motor if that makes any difference.
Thanks Darren

Has anyone bought the bluetooth module and got the iPhone app so you can use the iPhone as your program card? Would be interested if you can leave the bluetooth module in the car permanently so you can change settings wirelessly on the go!

Its not got built in bluetooth, you need a bluetooth module that plugs in where the program card will plug in
