Without RC what would you be doing now?

As title, what would you be doing?

Me, I would be a super duper ace guitar player:D ( I dont have one yet)

PaulRotheram 13-10-2006 11:49 AM

probably still in bed and not working on my website

Rob Fitzgerald 13-10-2006 11:54 AM

Having a 'normal' life that other people understood might be novel for me :D

DCM 13-10-2006 11:57 AM

I dunno, it was so long ago that I started it.... probably spend the money on computers or motorbikes, lol.

Chris Doughty 13-10-2006 12:16 PM

this is a really good question... I really don't know.

the only other thing that I was remotely interested in and was reasonable at was swimming, but the training sessions were getting too late on a school night.

jimmy 13-10-2006 12:17 PM

I'd be a lot better artist. Probably have my own game company, and be far richer.

jimmy 13-10-2006 12:37 PM

no I dont do coding, lol :p, no I didnt go to uni.. but yes, I already did own a game company with friends, doing a fps for Electronic Arts.

BenG 13-10-2006 12:45 PM

:o whats fps? Is it a posh word for artwork? What games did you work on?

jimmy 13-10-2006 12:52 PM

"first person shooter" ;)

Look at that embarassing fellow at the back (the tallest) with really amazingly crap hair.

http://www.oople.com/rc/photos/misc/duke3dteam.jpg

My excuse for the hair is that it was in-between short and long, in the horrible no mans land!

bretts 13-10-2006 12:58 PM

looks like this bunch could have been in the 'lone gunmen'.

BenG 13-10-2006 01:00 PM

wow, what kind of a hair style has that guy got with the gun? Was he your boss? And the gun to keep you all in line?:D

jim76 13-10-2006 01:53 PM

that's not Duke Nukem by any chance? were you involved in the Duke Nukem 3D game? That was ace when it came out. What was your role if you didn't do coding, concept artist etc?

Chris, i don't know where it came from but a LONG time ago (when we were racing at Juniours etc) i was told you were into BMX racing?

jimmy 13-10-2006 02:03 PM

lol, yea duke nukem 3D, 10 years ago! :o I'm some sort of artist yea.
The camera I started taking photos of RC cars with was bought to take photos for game reference stuff.
But yeah, if I wasnt into toy cars I'd be doing what I did since 1990, drawing on my computer.

Southwell 13-10-2006 02:06 PM

Hmm, before i started RC i was in the regional side at badminton and swimming, i stopped to go racing more....

Never BMX racing, but I was a keen street rider in my 'youth'

Have you ever been to the Slaughter house (Night club) in Malmo? Only recently i was reminiscing with a few of the "old" racers about a nightout we had there back in 2000 at the Euro's, it's still the best club i've ever been to - there were no less then 8 of us stood at a table all facing different directions trying to point out women to eachother as we were just blown away by what we saw ;)

We talked about going back for years......

BenG 13-10-2006 02:56 PM

wow, when did you work/ live there?

_JP_ 13-10-2006 11:20 PM

thats a really good question, I raced from about 12 - 17 and then found women and cars :)

from 17-23 I dont really know what I did for fun, just messed about with the big car and computers, went drinking and clubing

If it wasn't for racing I really would not have such good friends, and if I didn't race now I really dont know what I would do, I would go to more car shows with the real car, but I really enjoy racing and the social side :)

k£v!n 14-10-2006 04:58 PM

if i didn't have my racing i don't know what i would do, Ive never thought about it, but i know for detonate id have a lot more cash! :D

Kev

PaulRotheram 14-10-2006 05:21 PM

Taking a more serious answer to the thread.. i suppose i'd have job with long hours.. but i could also see me getting wasted most weekends if i didn't have racing to keep me occupied. Students eh :jimmeh

Spencer Mulcahy 15-10-2006 11:53 AM

Raced till I was 17 then found night clubs and Women used to go all over the place to different clubs Cream Hard Times Wigan Pier Kinetic and the Empire in Morcombe. So I would probably be still doing that the oldest raver in the North West. Only just got back into racing in the last two years, once you have done it you always come back.:D

telboy 16-10-2006 07:10 PM

I'd probably be in search of the egyptian desert penguin, whilst selling sand to the natives!

Or, I'd probably be an artist...................oh sorry I already am!(anyone know of any jobs going for a graphic artist?)
I'd spend more time painting more pictures of formula one cars (my speciality) or taking photos of them.

Tried to be a racing driver but failed both times. first time through lack of money, second time I went on that 'so you want to be an F1 driver' program on sky tv. but unfortunately twisted my knee pushing a trolley in the supermarket THE NIGHT BEFORE! Duur. and it just happened that the first part of the program was the fitness test! I was fine untill i got to the squat thrusts. then my knee just 'went'................................bugger!

tc2k 16-10-2006 07:11 PM

Do exactly as I do now with perhaps a bit more sport like football.

Jobs going at Team17 I think, though I guess its a little more specialised than just "graphic artist", however, anyone good enough can do anything.
Stick some of your piccies up in the 'graphy section mate, im sure people would like to have a look at your work.
Do you do that as a full time job?

xx4-nutter 17-10-2006 03:00 PM

I've got the F1 paintings I've done I could put those on, have to get some photos of em though. Kart loads of shell photos, or just take a look through RRCi I've got work in there every month and the yokomo review in racer I painted last month.

I do it as a full time job yes. I work in rotherham for a printing company, doing all the artwork for all the printing presses/machines most of it is simple stuff like designing logos, print layouts etc but sometimes (getting more often lately though) i do get a job that I can really sink my teeth into and spend some time on.
Its all on computer now but I used to have to use the good old dark room for development work, having to draw everything by hand and then camera it all........what a pain in the arse that was!

Now that photoshop is to hand now it makes it all a lot easier and quicker.:)
used to have my own website too that I created to showcase my shells on, but that closed recently due to my retirement from the shell painting.
