Hupo's TRF501X
Is tamiya releasing the body that Hupo used at the EC?
And the cvd's? |
The body is the DB01 Baldre body - you can already buy it seperately and I think DCM on here has bought several for his own fleet of DB01 cars. Once I upload the big gallery you can see it closer and see how he adapted the undertray from the 501X to fit. Not sure if Tamiya will release an alternate undertray for this shell on the 501X but it would be nice.
I think the way Tamiya work is that they send out these development parts to their overseas race team to test - but the real stuff goes on out of sight in Japan. Hupo wasn't sure if the CVD's would be coming or not, he assumed so, but so far I've never heard about their availability. I think I wrote about the CVD's in the worlds report - so I don't remember their exact reason for this change, but its about performance. There's rumour of a shaft car and even a 2WD, but still nothing much confirmed. |
it isn't a Baldre shell Jimmy, different side pods etc.... it is a new shell.
|
Ah ok, Hupo told me it was a Baldre I think but maybe I got confused somewhere and since I don't have one I didn't realise this, thanks DCM. This must be the shell from the rumoured new shaft car then  There was no undertray and the body was brand new and only cut out at the event so I guess it had only arrived recently from Japan.
|
Thanks for the information!
I also noticed different coating on the shocks (same as hotbodies wce shocks). Jimmy, did you get Hupo's set-up? Did he use the front or center one way? |
I think it is designed to give better clearance to brushless units....
|
When I asked hupo, I assumed it was the Baldre, he said I guess NO it's from the new car - showing how he thought it was for shaft drive. I assumed he meant they made the Baldre shell specially to adapt for the new car (since I still thought it was the baldre and not an entirely new shell) - make of it what you will, I smell a new car coming at some point - can't see it replacing the 501X tho.
|
TB02 based buggy?? hmm, very interesting, as long as it is better than the DF03....
|
I think Hupo was referring to a possible TRF buggy - but like all Tamiya drivers outside Japan he gets the latest stuff, but not told about it until he gets it.
|
By not replacing the 501x, do you mean like they do tourers, where you have trf416, and TRF'd ta05's, and then tb Evo's?
If so it'll be a nightmare for me, I'm soo Tamiya's bitch, any new trf I'll have to get!! |
Actually, this is probably the best thread for this, what were the ball cups and turnbuckles Hupo was using?

I understand the new axles... I've snapped more than enough of rear axles (and belts) this season. I'm going to try HB axles next. Also if the new ones are more robust, their design looks like to handle more droop.
|
I have a 501 x on the way, just looking at hupo's car, he is using losi main gear, slipper pads and xxx bk2 slipper spring, does any one know the part numbers?
Is this is a bolt on mod? Also what spares are worth having for it? arms, belts, pulleys? |
Its the XXX BK2 diff spring he's using not the slipper spring.
Centre pulleys and belts are always a good idea to have around but with very little in the way of support in the UK it's hard to keep everything you might need. shock towers, shock shafts - things like that seem to suffer in crashes. The suspension arms are generally pretty tough, I've done a couple of rear but never a front. |
Hi Guy's, abiut the set-up used by Hupo, that's looks to be the same than in Finland, excepted harder oil and blue sway bar in front and rear !
About the slipper, Hupo used machined Losi slipper plate (Prototypes from Optimized) and losi slipper pad with 86 kevlar spur gear ! About shock coating, Hupo looks surprise about the color, no more informations ! If you have more questions :p |
Did he run a 6,5 LRP? sintered or bonded?
Did he use a front diff or one way? |
As Reto from LRP (who was sat next to Hupo) said - "no one runs bonded any more - do they?" so sintered it was.
He ran a diff up front. |
Duev are optimized going to brining out the slipper pads, or do a whole conversion to use losi main gear/slipper?
Why does Hupo do this? is the 501 slipper not very good? |
If I look at the pictures from Hupo's car : was he running prototype rear hubs with 0.5° extra toe in ?
He has marked them as "0.5R" and "0.5L" |
The Losi slipper pads and spur fit on the B4 - the B4 stuff fits on the 501X, so I would guess the Losi things fit on the 501X with no modifications. I'm not sure what the slipper plates are all about but I'm sure Cedric will spill the beans!
The 501X slipper is great  |
Just had a look at Hupos car, what blue turn buckles are they? are they associated ones? if any one knows what ones to use or part numbers that would be great!
I have swapped my BJ4WE for a 501 hence me posting in tamiya section! oh and i love blue bits!! |
Blue bling - yup its addictive isnt it.

whilst on the subject, hope someone comes up with answer for the turnbuckles (i.e I want some blue ones) but my question is, do the J concepts white ball joints fit the tamiya ball joints and turnbuckles?

Just remember that AE blue and tamiya blue are different, if you mix them it may look cack. (not used that word for ages)
My guess is that Hupo got Cedric from Optimised rc to anodise them in tamiya blue ;) |
The blue turnbuckles are more than likely from the new TRF blue titanium turnbuckle series.
These should have been released last month by Tamiya but has been delayed 'til August. We should have these in stock once they're available from Tamiya. thanks for the replys guys, i have gone with hb ball joints, j concepts white ball links and lunsford turn buckles, that should do it!
yes i know what you mean about tamiya blue and associated blue, cack! good word! |

The new TRF light blue turnbuckles was Lunsford product !
The 0.5 rear hubs was prototypes from TRF, but you could use Rayspeed 0.5 hubs for yokomo car, they are available but may-be difficult to find ! Hupo use 6.5 motor with 23 tooth pinion and 86 tooth spur gear ! (around 8.5 gear ratio ) The slipper plate from the Losi looks to fit a bigger diameter than the original TRF and fit perfectly the Losi pad ;) |

I would REALLY like those hubs to use on some low traction tracks here. As you said : the Yok hubs aren't easy to find. 23/86 on a 6.5 !!!!!!!!! THAT'S INSANE !!:confused: I would fry everthing using that gearing. |
Depending of the brand, brushless motors can be very different gearing-wise, although the winds are the same.
That's why it's not very useful to ask, say, 'gearing for a 6.5' if you don't give the brand, rotor size, sintered or not, etc. When I first tried a brushless motor (Orion 6.5 with 13mm rotor), I used the conservative recommended gearing. It was so slow!:bored: It's only when I geared it with 4 more teeth on the pinion :wtf: that it came to life. |
Has anybody tried Hupo's wishbone mod to add flex, would this mod work for indoors on polished wood to help increase the level of grip with more flex?
I have to admit chassis flex is not something I particularily understand, I've also been looking at the Team Azarashi top decks which are also designed to increase the flex. Can anybody shed any further light on this subject ? |
I think Hupo's shell is more alike a HB D4 shell with a bit of modifications at the rear part......... get rid of all the shark fins .......

Can someone please point me in the direction of the pictures of Hupo's 501x being discussed?
|
http://www.oople.com/rc/photos/euros2008/day5/
some small ones in the report, and larger ones at the bottom of the page in the gallery. The arm mod was done before the plastic arms were available - so if you want to try it, I'd guess the plastic DB01 arms are a similar effect. |
Hupo's car
do my eyes decieve me or is hupo running a brushless without a power cap...???
