501X Driver 02-07-2008 09:01 PM

Need a TRF 2wd Buggy! When?

I am enjoying the 501X so much I would love to have a 2wd buggy made off of the 501X. Of coarse not just the 4wd with the front drive removed but a 2wd purpose designed buggy.
I don't even care to drive my Losi buggy or truck anymore.

Is there anyone that knows if there is one in the works or is it just a dream for now?

A.J. Gee 03-07-2008 06:05 AM

Thats a very good question that i think many of us on here have talked about before and still we have no answer. Tamiya will surprise us with something competitive by the end of the year i think. Thats just a guess though. Don't take my word for it. lol

sparrow.2 03-07-2008 06:30 AM

Rumour has it Hupo Hönigl is having a car built to his taste by Tamiya.....

As said it's a rumour!

stefke 03-07-2008 01:18 PM

Since he's driving an X6 now, I hope it's not an X6 copy.

Lee 03-07-2008 01:26 PM

Its going to be mid motor, a carbon x-6 from what i am told ;)

Bummer. I'm not a big fan of mid motor cars.

Northy 03-07-2008 02:18 PM

Yeh sorry stefke, mid motor with B4 geometry. Lee, I thought I'd heard it was going to have a moulded tub though, like the Durga?

G

Lee 03-07-2008 02:36 PM

Possibly G, like S2 stylee. I Have heard though that the motor will be further back than on the X6 and s2 and the rear tower will straddle the motor and the motor is intended to be inline with the driveshafts ;)

rcluke 03-07-2008 04:05 PM

Tamiya really need to step up their act and get a 2WD TRF buggy out.

they have a TRF 4wd and a 1/8 off-road.

have you seen the MS buggy they have out ? - it's a joke :D

B44&501xRacerEX 03-07-2008 05:31 PM

What the DT02-MS I was gonna get one, but decieded it wasnt such a good idea. I mean it's just a dressed up desert gator. Nothing special.

The Egrees is the only tamiya 2wd Id take racing, but it's so expensive
if you find one on Ebay.

sime46 03-07-2008 06:47 PM

The Egress is four wheel drive!

http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/ite...oduct-id=49417

when will you ever stop giving the wrong info?!

the DT02MS uses a SandViper body. nothing special to you but i've seen people raced and won with this buggy.

the EGREES WAS and IS a FOUR WHEEL DRIVE.

qatmix 04-07-2008 12:59 PM

According to another forum the 2WD TRF buggy will be announced in August. I'll be interested to see what its like... Maybe a Carbon Fibre Holiday Buggy :)

FERRETTI 04-07-2008 08:07 PM

I wish to sign the petition, I have three Astutes (an original, an RRC Work Edition and a Super) and a Dyna Storm, I bought a DT02MS as soon as I saw the box art with the TRF wing decals:wtf: in the hope it would be a decent DS replacement, oh how wrong and badly let down was I:thumbdown: Come on Tamiya as long as I know something aimed at top level competition is on the way I can wait.

Albertini 05-07-2008 09:53 AM

Is this just a rumour guys or is there real substance to this? As much as I love the B4 I'd prefer to run a Tamiya of comparable ability. No real reason for the preference, its just in the blood.:)

r3nos 05-07-2008 10:12 AM

Tamiya has come up with a TRF 4wd truggy and not a 2wd buggy to disappoint some and make some happier :D

TRF 801Xt 1/8 Nitro truggy

http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/ite...oduct-id=49497

P.S: Move if posted on the wrong place :P

qatmix 05-07-2008 12:27 PM

The TRF truggy is from Tamiya USA, Its Tamiya Japan that are doing the 2wd Trf (the prototype is already racing appar)

ben 05-07-2008 12:34 PM

whats this?

Scroll down to about halfway down the page

r3nos 05-07-2008 01:39 PM

In the report it describes it as a home-made chassis by a Finn guy which is a mixture of 501x and an associated B4 with some custom parts :)

stefke 05-07-2008 10:27 PM

Perhaps we'll see something during the euro's this week.

NOT !

BUMMER.

Tamiya is killing us ! I'm starting to think it won't be for 2008 (if it's ever going to come). What better outing could they have than with their best offroad driver at the euro's where he actually can win.

Who are you refering to as the best Tamiya driver, Hupo or Satoshi??
Anyway, when Kyosho released their 2wd I heard many rumors at that time that Tamiya will follow.. I do think they will release one soon and may add a driver to team TRF.. I'll ask Hupo at the IIC race here in Vegas..
BTW: I did not here nothing about the 801XT until it was released

stefke 28-07-2008 02:32 PM

I heard a very unconfirmed rumour ;) that the protoype TRF 2WD in Japan uses a tilted X-6 tranny and a new motor plate to place the motor closer to the rear axle compared to an X6.

Lee 28-07-2008 02:38 PM

would you release a car when you pretty much know your star driver will get thumped by neil. It was the track where he won his worlds title in 05 remember. Then total domination again this time

jimmy 28-07-2008 02:48 PM

If you're after a Tamiya 2WD - buy a HotBodies D2 and put Tamiya shocks on it! Sorted. I hope Tamiya do make one and would expect them to - but with Tamiya you never know what mad direction they will go in next.

For the oldtimers among us : remember the Avante and Astute. Totally over-engeneered beauties.

craigosh 28-07-2008 10:45 PM

Dont forget the Dynastorm, Stefke, think mines gonna be making an appearance again :D

Toonz 29-07-2008 02:10 AM

there's always plenty of surprises from the japanese:D

stefke 29-07-2008 01:29 PM

Well,

It certainly isn't using an x6 body :

Armed with hacksaw, electric drill and metal file, I decided to make use of the pile of broken DT02 and DF03 parts and came up with this mid-motor conversion,

BugFreak 22-02-2009 08:14 PM

Sadly not mine...
I know where to get one though.. just have to do a bit of sweet-talkin'..
The 211X never made it to the production-line.. only a concept-car.. based one the Dyna Storm

qatmix 23-02-2009 01:36 PM

Yeah the Dynastorm was based on the Trf211x, That one is one of the first layouts, but the trf team revised it to a much more narrow one I think it was Johnny Pedersen who designed the chassis. After the Dynastorm there was another more evolved one that had a plastic Tub chassis version with different arms.

spiff84 23-02-2009 11:12 PM

Here are some 211X pictures in my old TC showroom. (please let me know if you're not allowed to link to other websites!)

http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_m...=27441&id=5594

http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_m...27449&sid=5594

Unfortunately none of them are mine. I know there are a couple of 211X owners on TC though.

AaronR 24-02-2009 12:52 AM

Some cool old photos... what year are we talking in these photos?

qatmix 24-02-2009 08:11 AM

Those pictures are great! It looks like the early trf211x had madcap arms, a cf chassis and the superastute rear gearbox.

I think I have found a source where I can get the trf211 chassis plates.. so i might convert my dynastorm..
