DONATION? TO KEEP OOPLE TOP CLASS?

I Know this is not a for sale, or a wanted as such. SO.
Col etc move to where you think its best

BUT

Who, is willing to donate £1 to help this most awesome RC forum, the best known to man woman and child across the world. STAY the best.

Many or few may be aware of the evening time issue with accessing the site. UK time.

I know that Jimmy/Vicky have other work etc to do and its left to the moderators, inc Gainsy and Col. to keep the pages in check.

But sadly oople is a victim of its own success. Meaning that so many RC lovers access the site in the evening, It just cant cope with the traffic.

SO. who, of you awesome RC people are willing to donate £1 or more(no set fee, this is a donation request) to keep this fantastic forum the top of its class and mean it can stay the BEST RC Forum on the planet!
This is NOT a request for cash page, It is just a request for those that are willing to donate a quid or more. as a way to see who loves the forum and let Jimmy/Vicky will see how much we love what they do, and the Moderators as well. to keep this site the way it is!

Col, Gainsy, please copy this to the pages you feel its best suited. I know you will do whats best.........................
Tartman...................... Out.................:D

I HAVE DONATED MY £5 TO OOPLE.

THE DONATE VIA PAYPAL LINK IS NOW AT THE TOP OF THE PAGE ON THE YELLOW BAR!!!!!

Thanks mate, I'd just like to say that I don't have a job any longer - I've chosen oople over money and the oOple series and Invernational are wholly seperate from me/us financially (they are 100% non-profit and money is controlled by some nutter - Sxx Evxxx) we put everything back into the races for those.
The advertising really helps but whilst other websites actually make a good amount of cash from advertising - I really don't want to go that way with oople as I wouldn't want to sell out (my ass) in that way. I want to do the best stuff seen and make people happy / laugh / vomit / sex themselves - this is what makes it worth more than my career in whatever industry.

Racing toy cars is ace - I want to make sure people know this.

British oOple Racing Association - like a VW BORA. Next project ;)

gainsy 19-01-2013 08:41 AM

Well done Tartman for posting this, we all know Jimmy is way too much of a decent bloke to ask for donations to the site so good on ya for doing it, for me a world without oople or Jimmy in it isn't worth thinking about so as Tartman says if your willing to donate a quid to help us improve the site for you all then it would be greatly appreciated :)
Count me in, i will stick in a fiver

Duncan 19-01-2013 09:02 AM

Duncan 19-01-2013 09:10 AM

donations

as most everybody uses oople including all the clubs to organise and book in and see whats going on and stuff, the clubs have an oople night and everybody could opt to pay an extra pound to race to give to oople if they wanted. Just a thought.:p

jackeltrader 19-01-2013 09:13 AM

DONATIONS

+1 TO ALL THE ABOVE!

I have not been racing for very long, without the help of the oOple community and all the amazing info available I would not have enjoyed our amazing hobby half as much as I have. As a newbie it was indispensable as a resource and its an incredible community I'm proud to be part of

Just wondered if it would be possible to set a system in the FOR SALE section so sales contribute to the running of the site....not an ebay clone as such but would raise some cash for hosting & importantly it would be a constant source allowing the guys an easier task of juggling everything! As I said its just an idea!!
Keep up the good work, it really is appreciated!!

h0m3sy 19-01-2013 09:25 AM

I'd be quite happy to pay some kind of yearly subscription for this site, its been an invaluable source if information and help to me over the years. I'm sure other oople users would have no hesitation either. I don't know what the exact membership is Jimmy but if everyone paid £10 or so for a year then I'm sure most people would be happy to do so for such a great site.

danDanEFC 19-01-2013 09:33 AM

I am sure most people would happily stick an few quid in a hat, for oOple.

I have got more info from here than from any other site/publication.

fidspeed 19-01-2013 09:40 AM

Im up for a donation to keep oople improving

yes access is poor at night but i take it thats because its so popular:thumbsup:

victim of its own success

keep it up please Jimmy

Having owned and managed a couple of large forums on varying interests I feel your pain. We ended up going for a 'members area' where if you paid £x a mount a year in subscription it gave you a seperate area with certain perks.

Subscriptions are easy to setup in the software with a paypal option (we offered cheque payments too but this became a pain).

Adding the new area costs nothing and it makes the donations/payers feel like they have got something for their money ....

just an idea

Jamesk 19-01-2013 10:01 AM

Count me in for this too, my return to racing has been improved with this site and I've found some great places to race( shrccc ,Herts rccc) and made some good friends from it also.

hazeandfizz 19-01-2013 10:02 AM

Great idea, £1 sounds like the bargain of the year. How about a charge of 50p per for sale ad?

MHeadling 19-01-2013 10:04 AM

Yes more than happy to donate to keep this fine site at its maximum best!

Chrisfoster1971 19-01-2013 10:17 AM

Count me in.. Total noobie but without Oople I'd have been lost.

On other forums I've subbed to they placed a avatar style bade under username and sent out a couple of window stickers ( MDOC delica car club ). That would be kinda cool...as I'd like a sticker or two ;-)

traffman 19-01-2013 10:19 AM

I'd rather spend 2 pounds on a donation to Ooople than sticking 2 quid on the lottery , gives me far more satisfaction and i know i've a better return on smiles!

Just tell me where to donate.

dale 19-01-2013 10:21 AM

Yep definitely, I've sold (and bought) a few quids worth of stuff on here so definitely owe Oople one.

Frecklychimp 19-01-2013 10:22 AM

+1

personally i think a £10 per annum membership is very reasonable, could be offset against small discounts on oOple merchandise/stickers etc or priority access to reports.

As much as Jimmy and crew do it for the love, there are costs involved in bringing the top reports and i dont think its selling out to charge a small fee... a lot of us bought the magazines when it was the only outlet and we get a lot more on here!

Clubs gain trade through this site and we all benefit from the trade section.

I think listing in the for sale thread should be paid members only, its a very busy thread so a lot of us are benefiting from very quick realistic valued sales without ebay fees, having to pay a subscription fee to sell should discourage scammers too.

agree with the above , i have been on a few forums to that have basic limited sections for those guys that are just browsing and not actually paid members who can access the site.

i think this would be a good idea even if it was a fiver for a year to become a full member of oople to use its services.

it would help with the site speed at night and stop all the free romours out there.

As for donations ill be in. await paypal address..

I agree a subscription would be fine by me!!!

Karting 19-01-2013 10:55 AM

fine by me too.

Would pay a bit more if i got some stickers thrown in with subscription too ;)

cutting42 19-01-2013 11:00 AM

More than happy to donate some money.

I have seen forums die through subscriptions where the free content was restricted too much so would urge caution there. I am also on many forums where the subscriber gets perks.

Maybe you could give subscribers a higher priority in the Invernational ?

Snowey 19-01-2013 11:02 AM

I'll chip in!

Had the very same idea

gixxer 19-01-2013 11:30 AM

I'd be more than happy to donate/subscribe to oople and pay a set fee to buy/sell on here too

neiloliver 19-01-2013 11:33 AM

I have no problem with making donations and have done so in the past. Subscription might be fine those who have been on oOple for some time but might put off newer members, Paying a percentage of sales value towards oOple does seem like a VERY good idea but might take some work to control it.

cupid stunt 19-01-2013 11:36 AM

oople

i have no problem donating money to this site,i have bought and sold on here with no problems, made a few quid and lost a few ,where do i send

K-Brewer 19-01-2013 11:39 AM

This is a great website, only been racing for about 9 months so still new but the amount of information I've gotten from here about set up's problems I've had with the car an just general advice really is priceless. I'd b more then happy to make a donation

Keep up the good works guy an gals

Jason A 19-01-2013 11:41 AM

I personally think there should be 2 types of subscription

Free which allows access to oople forum

Payed that allows you to use the for sale section as well.

Other forums do this and is fairest option in my eyes.

dave-p 19-01-2013 11:43 AM

Oople

£1 is the bargain of the year as I really like this forum.

TARTMAN 19-01-2013 11:53 AM

GREAT

Looks like its a winner for donations/subs etc.

I like the donate £1 idea for a starter.

At some point a paid for/free version like mentioned would definatly work in my opinion.

How much and what you get for it etc is going to be something of a debate in itself, so for now, lets get a donation page/link up so we can chuck a few quid to get the right servers etc done.

Then the next stage........................

I will get hold of Jimmy and sort out the link etc.

Skidrow 19-01-2013 12:05 PM

Count me in - just give also an IBAN Number and account name holder for those willing to do a bank transfer (not only for the 1pound donation but also if you want to buy T-Shirt etc)

SiTrace 19-01-2013 12:09 PM

I'm in whatever is decided, wether a one of payment or annual suscription, I love oOple!!

andy-aj 19-01-2013 12:15 PM

I've donated a few times on a PayPal address that used to be in the top corner of the forums page but it disappeared last year when they started taking payment for the oople race 2012 haven't seen it since and I've looked through the forum it's nowhere

I'd be happy to donate/subscribe to the up keep/wages for all the hard graft that goes on behind the forum ie race reports. 18000 members I'm sure if only 10% donated what they could afford it would make a huge differance

deano43 19-01-2013 12:34 PM

I don't mind either way subscription or donation I am never off it so paying towards its keep seems fair like

Cream 19-01-2013 12:35 PM

I've sent you a PM Jimmy. Still looking for the donation button that seems to have dissapeared off the header?

Collegeboy 19-01-2013 01:29 PM

Count me in as well. I'm happy to either donate or go down the road of a yearly subscription. Keep up the great work all of you who are involved with the daily running of this great site.

Legacy555 19-01-2013 01:40 PM

Hi all,

Haven't read all the posts, sorry if I'm repeating someone else's thoughts.
You need google adsense and about 30,000 hits a day to keep a family living off a website. I know redrc.net has had 30,000 hits on a day, but don't know how regular this is.

I know Jimmy has said that he doesn't want to sell out (and his ass :p) by covering the site in advertising, but I personally don't see the problem in covering the "News" section in advertising and puting a paypal donate button on the top of the forum. Ads sold directly to a client can bring in about £25 a month (generally 320x75 pixels), more if you offer exclusivity in sections and links directly from product reviews to a shop. Large banner ads (180x600) can get £100 a month......Financial issues would be quickly quashed if this was implemented.

Just to say, I'd happily donate a tenner if the Donate button was put up.

Steven Forster 19-01-2013 02:07 PM

How about £1 a month so all new potential racers/bashers dont get put off by a yearly fee if they only use the site a few times and can have use of the full site for the full month.........OR £10 yearly subscription for those who use the site all the time ???

I would make a donation also
