Possible new club venue in Nottinghamshire

We are looking to expand from 1/18th off-road into 1/10th off road and have a potential venue.

If we were to run a single 'test' meeting on 22nd June how many folks would come? Venue near Newark, Nottinghamshire with excellent road links via A1, A17 and A46

Track would be grass with a good height 'earth bank' rostrum complete with safety fence. Classes : 4WD and 2WD mod.

Plenty of parking and pitting space. Village pub a short walk!

Please post if you would consider attending.

RSharpy 28-05-2008 05:19 PM

Tim, i'd attend if nothing on, which i'm sure I haven't. Think a new venue/club with in the region will be more than welcome by all. Location wise it would be spot on, with all the off road clubs either in Lincolnshire or Nottingham your club is bang in the middle

ianplimmer 28-05-2008 07:15 PM

thats good news tim, count me in and im sure i can bring some more derby guys over too

Robbiejuk 28-05-2008 08:10 PM

Can slap an on-line entry form on Me-or if you want Tim. Then you will know how many prospective drivers you will be getting. PM me with an e-mail address and we will get it sorted.

RSharpy 28-05-2008 08:12 PM

ME-OR Grand Prix would be good, with full race report etc ;)

Robbiejuk 28-05-2008 08:53 PM

Yeah man :) Me-or GP is in the pipeline for next year :)

RSharpy 28-05-2008 09:08 PM

Lets have one this year, new venue, new GP meeting. Bish, Bash, Bosh. Bobs ya Uncle, Fannys ya Aunt and all that business. :woot::woot::woot:

Robbiejuk 28-05-2008 09:30 PM

Would love to see you fill a two day event in three weeks bud. ;)

RSharpy 28-05-2008 10:07 PM

You have a point Rob its a bit shorter notice but wasn't thinking a two day event (for this year at least) but a one day one. I'm sure with the power of the internet and word of mouth the meeting will be well attended

chris_blakey 29-05-2008 08:14 PM

should be good if we get enough drivers.
just got to pray for good weather!!

Tim Ward 03-06-2008 02:09 PM

Entry forms

OK - We are just waiting for the final go-ahead from the Community Centre committee re usage of the field on the 22nd.

I will post an entry form on the forum as soon as I have confirmation.

Format to be 3 rounds of qualifying and 2 leg finals.

Classes : 2WD modified motors inc. Brushless (LiPo allowed), 4WD modified motors inc. Brushless (LiPo allowed)

Race Fees : Dependent on final hire costs - but should be about £5 per driver per class.

If you would like an entry form e-mailed to you direct please send an e-mail to me with 'FMR 10th' in the subject line and I will send you one as a pdf attachment.

Hope everyone makes a effort to come - should be a good day! Racing will start at about 10am, with gates open at 8am. This is just a club meeting - so the emphasis will be on friendly competition!!

Any volunteers to help out setting up welcome!! Just send me a PM, or email.

email addy : [email protected]

Only 3 rounds of qualifying? I presume it will be round by round? Will it be 2 from 3? If so it doesnt leave much room for error.

Tim Ward 04-06-2008 10:03 AM

Yeah - I know 4 rounds would be better, but club software only allows for 3 rounds a qualis - until we have funds to upgrade!

Hence 2 legs of finals (possibly 3 if we have time!) to give as much racing time as we can.

Will be RBR and 2 from 3 - so no there is not a lot of room for error I guess!

It is our first tenth meeting as a club so we are looking to gauge interest.

The venue looks promising though.

Please can everyone who lives locally make an effort to attend if they are interested so we can work out if there is the demand!

dbizzle5 04-06-2008 10:46 AM

Well Ill be there anyway. Im sure there will be enough interest.

Robbiejuk 04-06-2008 11:55 AM

What software is it tim? I can't believe that it will only allow you to do three rounds of qualifying for round by round. I thought even the free ones did that :)

I have always wanted to try the laps racing system at a meeting where your final position overall is based on race points. Mass starts each run. I think we need to bring the racing back into radio controlled car racing

Tim Ward 04-06-2008 12:11 PM

It's bbkRC ECO.

Let's have a vote on the day - I'd sooner go for LAPS racing style.

For me, with the absence of finals, we are there to RACE rather than qualify. Gives more room to make up for a bad run, and a chance for drivers to race people of an ability above their usual. Also makes overtaking, and coping with 'traffic' more of a factor and, for me, more fun!

Tim Ward 05-06-2008 11:43 AM

OK - it's all on!

Venue happy! Please make sure you follow the signs on the day re car-parking!

If you want to enter then please either ask me to email an entry form, send an email to tim@scmodels and put 'FMR 10th' in the subject line!

Alternatively download one from the FMR website, where you will find directions to the venue - make sure you look at the Winthorpe directions!

You can also enter on line! Click here!

Entry Fee of £5 payable on the day!

We have a good track planned with some interesting features to make for a good day's racing.

telboy 16-06-2008 08:13 PM

Hey Timmy,
Sorry dude, not going to be able to make it this weekend.

Sorry.:(

Tim Ward 17-06-2008 09:04 AM

Shame Tel! Never mind - keep an eye out for the next one if all goes well.

dbizzle5 20-06-2008 04:06 PM

Weather not looking good at the moment for the weekend but sunshine all next week from Monday. Lets hope the rain passes over quicker than expexcted so Sunday can be brill! Am looking forward to this! Whats the track gonna be like? I know its a grass track but will there be any features?

Tim Ward 20-06-2008 07:06 PM

Weather forecast has not been accurate all week for Newark area - often 8 to 12 hours out! So fingers crossed.

Track is short grass (cut it today) with some small 'flip/flop' jumps and one double/table top/drop off feature on the back straight.

Laid it out today and had a run - seems good to us!

Grip was high and the view from the rostrum good.

James 20-06-2008 07:45 PM

What time does it kick off :) ? & Rough itinerary .. You said there was a pub nearby

Tim Ward 20-06-2008 08:05 PM

Gates ope 8am - racing to begin at 10am

Pub a short walk - see link below.

There is a cut through direct to Gainsborough Road from the race track to save walking/driving up Woodlands.

Tim Ward 20-06-2008 08:14 PM

For those who want refreshments on the day there are filling stations on the A1/A46/A17 roundabout and on the A1/A46 Newark roundabout there is a McDonalds and a KFC. The pub will be serving Sunday lunches!!!! It's a good pub but likes to see itself as 'fine dining'!!

See map for relative location of McD's and KFC...

James 20-06-2008 08:18 PM

Unfortunatly im pulling out !

Seems someone has set a new 5min qualifying record with the truggys at deerdale while i was away playing at the nationals... SO ! im gonna set the record straight weather permiting tommorow. The STR is a lot faster than the Losi so heres fingers crossed !

gazoff 21-06-2008 07:52 PM

Should I get out of bed ?

I am not booked in , would this a problem ?

I will be running 2wd , any idea on numbers for this event ?

Will it rain ? :eh?:

Tim Ward 21-06-2008 09:37 PM

Pre-booking not necessary at all! It's just a 'for fun' meeting - the pre-booking was just to gauge the demand!!

Please - anyone who wants to race just turn up - racing starts at around 10am so you have time to visit McDonalds on your way!

The weather front has been moving more quickly than previously thought - chance of rain now no more than 20%

Looking forward to it - drag everyone you know along!
