Calling all F-1 drivers

To all current F1 drivers, including those that have gained their licence in the current year, I would like to know if you would be interested in attending an event specifically targeted only at your level. If there are enough participants the day will be arranged at Eden Park and will give you all the rare opportunity to race only those of your level.
Obviously this event can only take place if there are enough entrants but as you do not get an opportunity like this during the normal race calendar what a great way to see how you truly rate against your peers!

As the numbers will be manageable it is envisaged that a separate event will also be run for another invitational style event.

This is an idea that Eden Park is developing and all other suggestions would be very welcome. Paul Worsley fully endorses this idea.

So anyone who is interested please let me know.

Depends on the date but sounds fun.

What about a Reedy Invitational style event, back in the day Reedy used to do a series of international meets that would have a Limited number of "Invited" drivers and another meet for anyone else to enter.

The Invited drivers race in a "Reedy style" format and the others race in a conventional format.

I'd be well up for that!

Everything is possible!!! Including your idea, or line start qualifying, or any other ideas that come up!!!

Body Paint 26-05-2008 05:49 PM

Reedy style is mass line start Dave, CML raceway ran some reedy style events this winter. Basically every race is like a final and you score points for your finishing position. The heats get changed every round so everyone gets to race everyone else. I entered the "others" event at the '93 Reedy invitational race at Basildon and the Invitational event was amazing to watch, it's also great for commentating as every race is a race for position not time.

Chrislong 26-05-2008 05:55 PM

Id be up for it, depending on date ofcause.

Would prefer it to be over 2 days, as its a long way to travel so would prefer as much time on the track as possible.

Qualifying based on fastest two consecutive laps time? then 3 legged finals! itd be amazing to watch everyone driving at 150% all day

Chris

Loving the feedback!!!! Keep it coming you lot!!!!! This event can and will take place if there is enough interest:thumbsup:

Reedy style for definate! Maybe top 20 get in the 'Invitational' class then everyone else in a different class like Craig says?

super__dan 26-05-2008 06:31 PM

Keen on idea, but bloody long way for me, would have to see.

Why specifically only F1's though?

The idea was born as a end of season event. We have EOS for all other drivers except F-1.

The idea is you F-1 guys would ONLY race against drivers of the same quality. I think this would make for VERY interesting racing and VERY good to watch!!!!!!!

Col 26-05-2008 08:20 PM

Sounds like the A,B and c finals at a national to me!

Would this be run on the same weekend as the F3's?

niggs98 26-05-2008 08:24 PM

no date confirmed yet + there is a idea of a open class with the top 4 in open class against the top 6 in reedy race

Chris Doughty 27-05-2008 08:20 AM

Reedy Style event!!! yes yes yes!!!

We race like that every week at Lawford:thumbsup: only difference is that we race laps instead of 5 minute runs. Much more fun then normal so called "racing" where you go off one after the other, and only really race the clock.

David Church 27-05-2008 03:32 PM

The type of racing/qualifying has yet to be decided, perhaps a popular vote???
But we need to know if there is enough interest to hold this event.
So let us know you lot, do you want an event like this???????
And I would think it would not be held on the same day as the other EOS events.

Chris Doughty 27-05-2008 03:35 PM

I am very interested in doing this, but it obviously does depend on what day is chosen and if that day works for me.

Nick Goodall 27-05-2008 03:38 PM

I think you should do it as an Invitational Event and open it up to anyone that's ever been an F1 :D

Think of the likes of Jamie Booth, Craig Drescher and obviously more from the EPO area like Kevin Moore, Richmond Rogers, maybe even some others like William Mitchum, Ben Sturnham - i know for a fact some of these guys would love the chance to get to race at a decent one off 1/10th meeting??

Plus don't forget all the guys that have gone off to race 1/8th (Sloppy, Dave Bailey) plus the others that are now not racing 1/10th any more like Cree for instance!

Chris Doughty 27-05-2008 03:39 PM

that sounds ace! past versus present!

David Church 27-05-2008 03:40 PM

Good to hear Chris!!! Now get the rest of your F-1 mates to speak up.

I am thinking the day would not conflict with any other big meeting. Maybe late Sept or early Oct???

Big E 27-05-2008 03:40 PM

I am past racing present :woot:

Chris Doughty 27-05-2008 03:42 PM

haha - I agree'ed with Nick and got the credit for it :p

Ellis, you can't play, because you fit into both catogories your banned!

This is a great idea!!!! All things are possible!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't worry Ellis, you can come play as well:thumbsup:

Nick Goodall 27-05-2008 03:52 PM

You could get easily 60 drivers or so this way i reckon too - still a manageable amount but not obviously the same as a national with 120 odd drivers.

I know Ben Sturnham is up for having another go, i spoke to him a couple of months back now about coming to Lee's CML Raceway for a one off meeting but it's not likely to happen as Lee's so busy with racing.

If anyone doesn't know Ben "technically" finished 2nd at the 1993 Worlds in Basildon behind Masami running a Cat 2000 but was disqualified over some techinical issue with his Tanaplan Motor - I don't know the exact details but it's along these lines. He stopped racing to take up professional rugby including being part of the England team that went on tour in Australia and is now a coach at Bristol.

It would be awesome to get some old faces out again - that's what they did for the last Reedy race in 1996 (Marstons) - Even Rory Cull made an appearance!!!

David Church 27-05-2008 04:05 PM

60 drivers would be a good number of people. If you could ask Ben and any other drivers you can think of please. Once we have enough interest we can push forward and get this thing going!!!

Now I was also talking about some prises for the top 3 or so, but what do you get a F-1 driver that already has all the gear?

I have had an idea of maybe a weekend break somewhere???
Booze always goes down well.

Any other ideas? Now remember, we are just bringing this club back to life so funds are not gret!!!

I went to watch that world's. He qualified 2nd as well didn't he? I 'heard' someone grassed him up for the fact he was running a different endbell to the type that motor sold with at that time.

I'm not sure you need to worry about Prizes too much really, i don't think R/C racing has ever been something you get into for the Prizes - maybe trophies were exciting when you were a bit younger but the novelty soon wears off....

Maybe vouchers or as you say bottle of drink (i'm sure people can donate this sort of thing) - Maybe just have it all on a table, let 1st place pick first and so on??

I'll speak to some people but ideally it would be good to get a date in mind so i can at least mention that much?

I will also try the likes of Paul and Ian Kenningly, Danny Sweeby - i'm sure they'd all be interested at least

I do like the idea though........

lol i wasn't going to go there but yeah i'm of the same understanding as you  We won't mention any names.

That Basildon Worlds was the first big meeting Andy and I attended and as a complete newbee I thought it must be me who was wrong when the Brit got screwed even although we had built a track that favoured both the Americans and the Japanese winning. As it goes my personal views havn't changed much!!!

Hehe that was an amusing event, remember the girls in the cabin next to ours???? and the amount of times you and I had to rebuild the cars and do the bearings, weather was great!!! Plus Masami having a giggle at himself as he forgot to go over the line and lost the event.
