Eden Park National

As we are fast approaching the National at Eden Park, thought I would start a thread.
There has been so much work done to this track, the transformation has been amazing. So many people have put so much time into getting this track back up to top standard. I am sure many people will be very impressed with all the effort that has gone into the track!!!

We will even have at least one past RC superstar coming to visit on National weekend, Kevin Moore!!!! That's right, he often comes along to race meeting and has a chat with most people and watches the racing, he has even been known to do the odd lap or two.

If anyone knows any past or present RC star, why not invite them to EPR National weekend......

never mind having a celeb race like they do at the f3's. if we get enough old racers could we have a legends race ??????

MattADH 22-05-2008 09:05 PM

I was going to start a thread after Talywain but DC has beat me to it!

If anyone has any questions about the venue and track, or we get more info that will be of use the racers, we will post it here and on our club website at www.edenparkraceway.com

Dont forget that we are hosting a 2WD regional two weeks before the national (15 June) where there will be an open class for anyone who wants to practice.

Anyone interested can drop me a PM or mail.

There is about 30 to 45 min between the end of qualifing and the start of finals. But, you would have to seek a much higher authority to get permission for this, but it's a very good idea:thumbsup:

MattADH 22-05-2008 09:47 PM

We can run a vintage class at a club race meet but not at a National - sorry.

cwilson 23-05-2008 11:28 AM

how old would the car have to be to be in vintage class? just asking as would like to have a go as that sounds like fun.

Northy 23-05-2008 11:38 AM

I can bring the 2 times YORCC vintage champion ProCat

How about an 1/18 scale race at the end of racing on Saturday?

telboy 05-06-2008 07:36 PM

Whats the quickest/easiest way to get there (from oop north)?

I just put it into the satnav and its taking me though the centre of london. Is this the best way to go or is it easier to go round the M25 to the nearest junction?

Danny 06-06-2008 01:56 AM

Wouldnt really go through London unless you know it well or you're travelling at a totally off peak time & happy with speed bumps, bus lanes & red routes etc. Much better to go clockwise round the M25 & get off at jcn 4.

MattADH 06-06-2008 08:09 AM

I know that over the years, the likes of Jamie Booth have come through the edge of east London and used the Woolwich free ferry. Jamie once said,"Its was like going on holiday!"

when coming home from work (M1) I use the M25 go round the east side ove the Dartford Crossing (£1 each way for cars/more for caravans) and come off at J4. It is 15 minutes from the M25 and fairy direct.

What time were you thinking of travelling/arriving and maybe I can help. I spend most days on the M1 and M25... :(

Northy 06-06-2008 08:14 AM

Matt a suggestion for Friday lunchtime/early afternoon would be great

Thanks,

G

super__dan 06-06-2008 08:17 AM

Every Friday I hear the traffic news on the radio (2) and the M25 seems a nightmare every single week, is that fair to say? Should I leave Thursday night and be really early?

Lee 06-06-2008 08:18 AM

Dont you work fridays G

I will be hitting london area around 5-6 pm im sure this is the worst time but any suggestions would be good :)

Northy 06-06-2008 08:20 AM

In the civalised working world we have a thing called 'holidays' Lee, up there in the North where you don't have running water or electric, I'm not sure they've caught on yet..... :p

G

Lee 06-06-2008 08:22 AM

I have heard of those things you call holidays, but they are seen as evil things in the contracting world, if you don`t work you dont get paid :)

I could never sell my soul and become a staff man

Northy 06-06-2008 08:25 AM

But if you can "hit the London area around 5-6pm" then your not working proper days anyway you gay :p

MattADH 06-06-2008 08:31 AM

OK...

On a Friday morning, we have found that our journey to work is the best - this morning was good with no traffic hold ups. But then Friday evenings are normally the worst so please bear that in mind.

It would not surprise me if the section from the J29 of the M25 to the bridge is not busy on Friday afternoon/evening. This does flow but like most mornings, it cannot handle the volume of traffic.

There are info boards over the M25 giving you distance and time to notable junctions so keep an eye on this. Unfortunately, once one route gets busy, everyone dives to the alternative so if the motorway is snarled up, the route through the edge of London (Woolwich ferry or Blackwall Tunnel) tends to be affected.

From the north using the M1 go clockwise round the east side of the M25 (Dartford) but if you are M40 or lower, then I think you should go anti-clockwise heading towards Gatwick. If you choose the latter, it is possible to come off at an early junction of the M25 like Croydon or Godstone but please have a map or Sat Nav handy.

Cameras! Please be aware that there is a Variable Speed Limit on the M25 after the Crossing round to J3. It is 50mph. Not sure if it works but I am too scared to test it! From J4 there is just one speed camera on the route but there are cameras on some of the junctions to try and stop people jumping the lights.

For those of you who want to know, the 30mph speed camera is in West Wickham on the A232 at the top of the hill. It is approximately half a mile after passing the Focus DIY store on your left...

If anyone wants more info, I am only too happy to help!

MattADH 06-06-2008 08:34 AM

M25 is not a motorway, more of a car park!

I have spent hours trying to avoid traffic jams but then everyone else is too.

I have to admit though that my BlackBerry's Sat Nav chooses a route that assesses the current traffic situation - it has become invaluable...

Belsten 06-06-2008 09:56 AM

Does anyone know if there any spaces left ? Cheers

millzy 06-06-2008 10:34 AM

id like to know as well

super__dan 06-06-2008 10:46 AM

Dave,

You need to aim this question straight to the BRCA, either Paul or Jacquie (sp?). Their email/phone numbers are on the BRCA site.

Dan

super__dan 06-06-2008 10:47 AM

Matt,

Is that a std feature on the new blackberry's with internal mapping? I'm getting one from work and wondered about it.

Dan

telboy 06-06-2008 10:51 AM

M25 it is then.

We'll be setting off on friday morining time, so should be hitting that part of the world at around 1-2 o clock.

Gnarly Old Dog 06-06-2008 11:19 AM

Word of caution for anyone coming down the M1 from oop north...

When I've been going t'other way round the M25 on a Friday (to Taly and Oz) the southbound traffic at the base of the M1 is horrendous - even at 1pm.
Coming back from Preston a few weeks ago, I hit the queues at Luton on the M1 at 2pm and didn't hit the M25 (only 10 miles or so) until 3.30.

Last time I had to come southbound on the M1, I cut across at J15 and joined the M11 to avoid the bottom of the M1/M25 junction. About 30miles longer in total but more likely to be less hassle - though the cut across country goes single lane at times.

M25 will just be heavy and congested like Matt says but will flow or crawl unless there's been a biggie.

Track is definitely worth the wait though. Matt and the EPR boyz have put in a load of work and it looks great - and drives even better. Best have a few spares though:woot:

I can recommend the A1 - A14 - M11 route then onto the M25. It is the way that Ellis and I have travelled up to the Worksop winter series, etc.

There are speed cameras on the A14 though!!!!

At that time you should be fine.

I am going to be at the track Wednesday through to Sunday so I get to avoid my 150 mile daily commute for three days! I wont be missing that...

I got my BB early this year and I know that Chris Doughty has just replaced his. I have the BB Curve 8310 and it comes with a years subscription to the service. I think it is £40 otherwise but after a few months of having it, I would definitely pay for it again.

CD will probably know more about them in general though.

Agreed on the M1/M25. If its bad then you can cut through St Albans coming off the M1 at J9 and joining the M25 at J22.

Hope that helps...

Rossco_4 06-06-2008 12:10 PM

i'm thinking of leaving on wednesday! multimap reckons its 442 miles for us ...... :wtf:

MattADH 06-06-2008 12:13 PM

Rossco - heading south it wont take too long as its downhill all the way!

Northy 06-06-2008 12:15 PM

Anyone know the post code so I can put it in AA to get a rough idea?

I hope the baby doesn't come early :woot:

G

Rossco_4 06-06-2008 12:20 PM

Yes perfect. Hawksbrook Lane is the first right off the B230 and then first right again will be the Sports and Social Club.

Bearing in mind the time you are arriving G, you will be directed around the back of the bowling green but someone will be there to show you where to go.
