discothesnake 12-08-2012 07:23 PM

Agree Jason, was a really good meeting. A huge thanks to John again.

Great season and can't wait for next year.

Dave

dasbo 12-08-2012 08:05 PM

Yes, a great meeting once again, so many thanks to John and all at Falkirk. Also congrats to all the series winners, especially our new double champ Davie Smith.

And modest with it too......

Well done to John Allan and the falkirk guys for today's meeting. Liked some of the track but some bits not so much but it's variety that makes a season and it's the same for all.

Well done to Davy for the double.

Well done Martin for his 4wd 131 today. Good skills.

KennyClark 13-08-2012 12:14 PM

Congratulations Dave on doing the double.
You drove all of the 47 cars you have owned this year brilliantly.

Honeybadger 13-08-2012 02:15 PM

Yup, well done on the double Dave.

V6Jim 13-08-2012 10:01 PM

What kind of numbers are you getting at a meeting these days? In the late 80/90's it got to a point that we were turning away drivers. 120 per meeting was possible for a while. Drivers were coming from all over the north of England too. Good fun, but ultra competitive!

It would be good to build it back to those levels again. It should be possible - 10th electric buggies should be the most popular class in R/C racing - reasonably cheap, quiet and versatile.

Listen to me, I'm just considering having a go at this again and I'm already preaching. Please excuse me...

Jimmy Hamilton

GBH 14-08-2012 06:55 AM

Hi Jimmy,

Good to hear from you again.......yes those were the days, I still remember our close race at SDRCC when they had a permanent track :) Funny how you used to beat me up here and then I would return the favour at Hetland Hall. I won my first National there when I stopped the 2 Jimmy domination in 1989

I have never really stopped racing off-road since 85 always having at least 1 race per year usually the Belgium GP which I attended over 15 years on the trot :woot:. I have just sold all my on-road kit so I will only be racing off-road moving forward (on-road was always a distraction and no where near as much fun ). It would be great to see you back I'm hoping to do the SORC next year, we just had way to much on this year what with trying to race on-road as well. Hope your going to race 2WD?

George Haining

V6Jim 14-08-2012 07:29 AM

Hi George!

Yeah, I noticed you were still 'at it'! I'd love to make a comeback and do the SORC next year, but would probably opt for 4WD as a starter. I'm prepared to be amazed at how bad I'll be!

I'm doing all the research (nosey poking) at the moment trying to suss out all the LiPo/brushless stuff.....

Talk again soon!

Jimmy

Dave77 14-08-2012 07:33 AM

Jimmy,

Shame you went to watch sheep racing rather than come along to Falkirk :)

We are not getting nearly enough numbers. Its a shame but to be honest the competition is still there so you will have people to race and wont be bored. There is plenty of banter and it makes for a really enjoyable day.

I had an 18 year break before doing this years SORC and got back into it no problem. I dont think I took the motor out of the car all season, and only changed gearing once. Its such low maintenance on the electrics side that its now just purely about set up and driver comittment.
Anyone can go ballistic for 5 minutes, no dumping with lipo, so its still about who crashes less wins.

2wd was getting more numbers at a couple of rounds than 4wd.

120 drivers would be a pipe dream going by current levels, however the rounds were well run and commentated/refereed on by John Allan and the clubs so it can only serve to create a bit of mass going forward.

Go on, give it a go again, what about Gordon and Iain too?? Derek Kerr had it too easy in the Veterans class :p

Cheers.
David

paul whittock 14-08-2012 01:41 PM

hi yes great end of season racing having only done the last 3 meets and a 15 year gap i really enjoyed it and cant wait for next season hopefully i can get that 22 to run right (so much tinkering to do maybe a b4.1 next season????:bored:) work has started up here in sunny inverness on the track i will start possing pics soon. thanks again to everyone. p.s. can anyone give me the contact details for carpet supplers primatrack, i have contacted derek but the no for vaughns seems to be out of action. cheers again see you all soon.

Mr Eccleston 14-08-2012 02:45 PM

I don't know about having it easy in the veterans, it was hard going every meeting. Be good to see a few of the "experienced" racers making a comeback, never know, the veterans could become the main class

Do your research Jimmy, pick any of the main cars, Durango, Associated, Tamiya, Kyosho, Scumacher (in no order), stick a speedo in that is relatively new (you may want to consider reverse until you get used to it again :woot: ), a 6.5 motor and lipo (they will all have more power than you can use). Mind your lipo sack and your pretty well sorted.

V6Jim 14-08-2012 05:09 PM

You see, one of things that I was quite good at was getting the cells and the motors right. It was quite difficult and if you get that bit right you were already ahead of the game. That factor has gone now (mostly) so it's all down to driving....hmmmm.

Just a wee note to you all. Ian Bell died a couple of years ago - heart attack mountain biking. Very sad indeed as he was such a great guy. I never laughed as much as when Iain got into full stride with one of his stories! Still in contact with Gillian and Tina.

I might see if Jimmie Mac fancies a go - doubt it though, he's another mountain biking devotee.

Jimmy

Rodrego 14-08-2012 06:07 PM

Jimmy, Notice that Derek didnt make any reference to Tomy as a current manufacturer!

Get back into it. We'd all love to pop down for another go on the BMX track!!

bigchris 14-08-2012 06:32 PM

Sorcinfo racing

Ebay is good too and you don't need an expensive car
I got 3rd in 2wd this year with a 65 quid car!

Jimmy i am really sorry to hear of the loss of Iain, i didnt know. He was a top guy.

You are right us old schoolers talk of the old days of getting the gearing right all the time!!

Get on jimmies case too!

V6Jim 14-08-2012 08:36 PM

I'm gonna need some help here as I don't know who's who here!

Dave77 - David Logan
Big Chris - Chris Mitchell
Rodrego?
Mr. Ecclestone - Derek Kerr
GBH - George Haining

Any others feel free to make yourself known!

I'm all stoked up about this now and fully intend to win the Olympic Tenth Off-Road Gold medal in Rio in 4 years time! By that time I'll have re-launched the DMCC, built a new permanent track at Hetland and have a regular turn out of 100 drivers at every one of the 15 SORC rounds! Do-able? You bet!

Hi Jimmy

I don't know you but I heard the guys talking about you at the weekend.

Rodrego is Ryan Stirling who I'm sure you know.

I'm sure I'll meet you in good time.

Dave

Mr Eccleston 15-08-2012 11:37 AM

How many remember these guys from the past:

Colin Leslie
Mike Henderson
Paul Mitchell
Mikey Petts
Alan Taylor
John Reid
Gordon Sheddon (Mr BTCC)
Paul Houston
Derek Ferguson
Colin Maxwell
Gordon Moodie (Brisca F2)
Kevin Nicolson
Mark Ewing
Allan Easson
Gregor Mclean
Andy Dunn
Paul Daily
Brian Gibbons
Graeme Adamson

Now if some of these guys made a comeback ..........

V6Jim 15-08-2012 05:18 PM

Yup, know most of them!

Add...

Eric Brawley,
Gordon Gillan,
All the Balderstones
The Carlisle lot - Ron Paterson, Damian Doyle.
Stu Leckie (He could commute from Canada)

There'll be loads more - I wonder how many could be contacted and some arm twisting applied....

Jimmy

bigchris 15-08-2012 05:25 PM

Ron is still racing tourers at Carlisle and I saw Damien a few weeks ago would be great to get them back!

Rodrego 15-08-2012 06:43 PM

Dont forget Craig Black and Paul Mitchell.

However, Paul Mitchell is somewhere in Yorkshire, I think?

Dave77 15-08-2012 07:06 PM

Remember them all derek.

Alan harland, Iain headling, stu flamson, Alan coutts, stevie cresswell, ian forest, the Fongs, the list could go on and on.

bigchris 15-08-2012 09:37 PM

Cress well lives and races tourers very well in England! Saw him at last national!

Rodrego 16-08-2012 05:27 PM

The Fongs.... Cricky, I forgot about them!

Great lads, Scott and Pietro are still good friends of mine. Also, Stan and Ian helped me so so much back in the day when I was starting off.

GBH 17-08-2012 06:46 AM

Remember Angus Fong Dave?

Also

Iain Read (Wonderland)

David Curry (Wash & Wax)

Mark Jewit (He was up at the Union Square GP back in 2010)

They must all still be interested in off-road I bet :)

V6Jim 17-08-2012 02:21 PM

We're needing to get something like Reporting Scotland to do a wee ditty before next years champs start. Also local papers are usually champing at the bit to do wee articles on local clubs etc. That's how I am thinking I might regenerate some activity in this area. Might also see if any of the existing Carlisle guys want to re-adopt 1/10th Off Road.

Still actually haven't decided if I'm going to have a go at this again! Kinda looks like I might!

Can somebody tell me what the turnout was at the last round. 2WD & 4WD.

Jimmy
