Experience with the B44?
Hello,
I want to buy a B44 but I'm not sure if I should buy it. Who can tell me his experiences with the B44? -Durability -Maintenance -Handling -Buildup -Cheap where? USA Shop -etc.... Thx for your answers. Best Regards Mathieu |
Hi there,
I've owned one since the start of this year and so far its been fantastic no parts have shown any sign of wear yet, all that needs doing every so often is doing the usual checks that nothing has come loose, the only weak part on the car now i'd say is the front shock shafts and front A arms which is a weakness on other cars too as they are first thing to make contact in most crashes, the build is really good it's simple and easy to understand, the handling of the car is very good it's predictable and quick, one upgrade i would buy for it is a front oneway diff which makes it even better in most peoples opinion. A good cheap usa shop to buy from would be losi parts house: http://www.losipartshouse.com/servlet/the-26851/ASC9060-Factory-Team-B44/Detail Hope this helps Mike. |
Ah yes, LosiPartsHouse is a well known shop.
So the only replacementpart I should buy is the front Arms and Shock shaft? Maybe you know the Partnumber of the Shock Shafts? Thx for your experiences. Best Regards Mathieu |

some people have changed to the older associated shock shafts up front or losi shock front shafts as they are slightly stronger, not sure what else breaks really i havn't broken any other part yet apart from the old style topdecks which have now been strengthened and havn't heard of the new topdecks break:) |
Hi,
ok Thx. Yes I heart about the problem with the Top-deck. So if I buy a B44 now, the Top-Deck will be the new, stronger Top-Deck? Best Regards Mathieu |
yes it should come with the new updated top decks:)
|
Ok thank you.
Everyone can tell his experiences with the B44 here. Do it. :) Best Regards Mathieu |
If you like it and you can afford it then buy it :D
It got 1st 2nd and 3rd at the world championships so there is nothing wrong with the chassis or its durability. Mikes information is accurate - there isnt much more to add other than you need to use some small grub screws in the front wishbones to prevent the hinge pins from dropping through and fouling the chassis. What other information are you after ? A car is only ever as good as the person who controls it which makes the all too often questions of "which is best" etc a little frustrating. ;) |
I raced mine last night. Didnt do too hot though.
A T4 slammed my front end cracking my front shock tower. Also after 7 months of running this car my diff case on the rear end is also cracked. And another common problem, the washer mod does work, but the nut on the left side comes loose all the friggin time.:eh?: I ended up stripping 2 sets of rear rims..I'll post pics later.. It has to be the rear pin that caused this much carnage.. |

Sorry it's not the easiest to understand english for a french guy. xD Thx for the next few experiences with the B44.:) Best Regards Mathieu |
i can only say you must totally abuse your b44, ive been running mine for 3 months now and its taken some good tumbles and bounced back for more
as for stripping 2 sets of rear wheels you must NOT of located the pin correctlly |
Is the wesinator as good as you B44&501xRacerEX?
I don't get how you have broken all those parts I have seen lots of b44s take beatings and they seem pretty strong, apart from those shock shafts |

And that T4 hitting me he broke after he hit me, you get what you get. I'm not a bad driver, it's just being on the track with really terrible drivers that bother's me. You dont just plow into someone's R/C car.. I'll just go buy new parts later on I have another car to run anyhow... |

Hehe, thank you.^^
|
Ok, now I understand it.
Just need a Small M3 Grubscrew to safe the hinge ping. Sounds easy.:) Best Regards Mathieu |
to do this you will also need to shave 2 or 3mm off the hinge pin so the grub screws will fit into the wishbones
|
or you could just buy the new front wishbones which has a smaller rear hole so the hinge pin cant fall out!!!!??
|
Mike the new b44 kits come with the hole capped off on the one end of the wishbone so no need for the grub screw mod.

ok ok, i still have the older style wishbones, no point in replacing something if it aint broke :D

The build from the box
The build from the box was very very good, everything fitted perfectly, the whole kit seemed very well thought out, diff and slipper assembly is very straightforward and easy to setup, as recommend in the manual you use the inner mounting holes on the top decks ( this from what club members say avoids nrly all top deck breakages)
As to start point for setting up I was advised to adjust the preload on the front shocks till the front drive shafts are horizontal, then the rear shock preloads till the car is perfectly flat, use this as a base start point and experiment from there. Breaking and driving comments I will leave to others as I have only had it for about a week but so far I love it and cant fault it ( the front shock shaft I broke was due to hitting a stationary car on the straight so was not too concerned when this was the only damage ) |

make notches in the chassis. People still have this problem. |
Had a great time tonight with the B44 since it has a new front shock tower. I also managed to fix the old tower also with some CA glue.
These shock towers last a long time. My old one held up for 5 months. This one will last a bit longer than that because my driving skill is improving each week. |
Hi,
a solution for your Front Shock Tower xould be the 3,6mm Shock Tower by www.tom-tec.net .^^ Best Regards Mathieu |
Hitting Reo for the last time tonight with it.
People have been racing T4's as of late, we are having someone's birthday party at reo tonight also. Until B44's show up, this may be the last time I run a B44 at Reo. I'll be going back to my Kyosho Twin Force, until I get the E-revo |
What are you going to use to hit reo and who is reo poor person if your going to hit him.

BMag youve got a PM
|
BMag, you have a pm from me too
|
owww someone's popular :woot:
|
nothing wrong with my B44, I put new shock towers on it.
I got some front A-arms off tower hobbies and they put extra front hinge pins in there for me. Thats awesome! I put new rear A-arms on the car, yesterday I decided to use Tebo's setup this time instead of my own. |

My results from June 6th 2008 are in:
Andrew Dewig-chassis-losi XXXTcr 23 laps B-mag -chassis-B44 FT- 20 laps Chase Rhinerson -chassis-T4- 14 laps Kyle Durbin -chassis- T4 8 laps I got beat by a 22 year old.....so....what....:woot:........lol Just wait til I get this 2wd truck I ordered, it will level the playing field. Everyone will have a 2wd truck on the track. No more being the lone B44 on the track................ :/ |
You should be turning faster laps with the B44 than electric truck. The 4wd can put the power down better because of its increased traction.
|
You do realise that a 2wd car is slower than a 4wd car...

Munching of teeth???
Hey there,
Has any body had an trouble with teeth on the diff gear breaking off??? I've just had to replace my second diff gear in the front of my B44 within two months of having it. Does anybody know why this could happen and if it is the quality of the plastic used could anybody recommend another manufacturers that would easily fit on the B44??? Hot Bodies??? A PS: You should whipping those trucks behinds with your B44!!! Shame on you getting beat!!!! Lol |

Other manufacturers ring gears don't last longer, the Associated ones are pretty tough. |
I bought my b44 fully assembled from a fella - it hadn't been run, and was mint.
the first thing I did was check the drivetrain 'freeness' - old habits die hard, and in the old days of 2000's or 1700's, no one could afford any tight trannys (fnnaarr!). I could roll my TA-04 over 30m with a decent push on a polished floor - it was a party trick  the b44 transmission felt notchy, and not quite right. with a gentle push on the kitchen floor, the car wouldn't roll further than half a metre. I got it on the bench and spent a bit of time listening, until eventually i traced the tightness back to the ring gears. they were shimmed up as per the manual, but they weren't as free as they should be. the 2 shims inside the casing pushed the gear onto the diff, with barely any clearance - so I took them out (front and rear) - and hey presto - one side of the kitchen to the other, and then most of the hallway :) |
And hey presto - munched gears on the first outing :woot:
You have to run the drive train in for a run or two and then it frees up. If you take the shims out it won't last for nuts! When I built one for a friend we ran it in for about two hours with a crappy old motor hooked up to a tester. Leave it tight and see what it says after a couple of runs. |

Some people can pull faster laps than others. I have went back to 2wd truck, and after picking my 2wd truck up and B44 up, the 2wd truck is also alot lighter, because the way it's designed. I dont pick my B44 up very much. I can see my B44 being a faster car than a T4, because I usually can get them on the straight-a-way. |

my biggest problem seems to be with wheel nuts at the moment - especially on the LHS front. they seem to loosen themselves under hard braking, and today it cost me 3rd in the a-final  |
