esc options

hi all ! wanting to know what esc people are using, I've got a speed passion but got too many options and just can't get a happy medium. so i put a nosram pearl in and is a lot better but its now died :thumb down: i prefer the version 2 of the pearl but their expensive so wondering what others are using ?? unless someone has a nosram pearl for sale

hotrodchris 29-06-2012 10:31 PM

Mark R10 all the way, expensive but soooooper smooth and a good power delivery!

markatharding 29-06-2012 10:49 PM

what make is r10 ?

hotrodchris 29-06-2012 10:51 PM

Orion
JE have an offer on for the speedo and program card!

markatharding 29-06-2012 10:55 PM

ok cool thanks will have a look

Stuweatherman 30-06-2012 10:10 AM

Mark the R10 has the same settings as the speed passions/ hobbywings!!

hotrodchris 30-06-2012 12:02 PM

Not quite Stu they are more controllable and smoother plus the power band they have if geared correctly you turn everything off!

spud31 30-06-2012 08:32 PM

same as hobbywing v2.1 and hpi flux pro.
Tbh for most uses the hobbywing xerun 60a is fine, only low wind mods in 4wd get in a bit hot

MrMagoo 01-07-2012 05:43 AM

I've run H/W 60's and 120's which are great speedos, and really good value for money. The V3 is out now, which by all accounts is a great bit of kit, but it's unfair for me tor recommend it as I haven't had a chance to try one yet. I do know the price has gone up, but doesn't it always:lol: On the flip side you may well be able to get some good deals on the 2.1's now:thumbsup:

In 4wd I've recently swapped my H/W for an Orion r10 Pro, and I'll back Chris up on this one. They may come out of the same factory and have very similar software but it definitely more drivable and with the same motor I've been able to take all the boost and turbo off yet still go quicker. The JE deal is very good, and TBH the only reason I bought the Orion kit, as the speedo is £££ to start with, and then £60 quid for the programming box is a bit nut.

levontraut 01-07-2012 07:54 AM

well i have seen a few H/W 2.1 120 amp esc's being used.

so for value and performance it HAS to be good. yes i am sure you get really good ones out there but then the better you go with a product so will the $$$$ go up.

i know a lot of the guys use the H/W in there 1/10th and 1/8th and it looks like they get better performance than the branded castle and orion.

i have just bought a H/W setup. never raced electric but acording to the reaserch i have done it is a nice piece of kit.

if you are after a budget the H/W sc8 120 amp and if you are after a nice esc that is a little bit better then the xerun sct 120 pro.

acording to the info i found the sct 120 pro is better in many ways. has also more functions then the std sc8.

BTW... the sc8 is aparently water proof... i do nto want to test it out but hey.... maybe it is good for those wet days.

markatharding 01-07-2012 01:08 PM

thanks everyone for the info, once I've got some more belts fitted I'm gonna try using different software on my speed passion as running stock isn't really working for me. then might go for the r10

hotrodchris 01-07-2012 02:21 PM

No Mark the HW you have got is fine you just need to get rid of that stock software and put the mod software on and that will take away all the confusion you are having programing it!

markatharding 01-07-2012 06:34 PM

software changed just need some belts then try it out next sunday

930mod or 119mod are both effective but easy to setup.
(Available on the HW website.)

Shaun i'll bring my laptop tomorrow so you can have a play as you can choose between the HW and SP mod software on that speedo and both have slightly different options!

cheers chris , i can do the software , but just don't which to run ie 528 , 119 ,905 mod etc ...

i was quite happy with the 528stock i was running , until mark said he got told to change it to the mod software !! at least i had a excuse for being slow !!

cheers shaun

hotrodchris 14-07-2012 08:49 AM

Shaun

Base start with mod
3 to 4 on the punch
Turbo about 8 to 12 deg with a 0.004 delay
boost again start at the mid point and tweak to suit
it's like a lot of things down to personel choice

gwesty 14-07-2012 01:52 PM

i use speed passion 2.1 pro with stock 422 settings , with a 10.5 motor , works fine for me !

hotrodchris 14-07-2012 01:57 PM

yeah but you know what you are doing with stock settings from years in touring car Glen us meer mortals have to take the simple route!

there are to pdf's you can download then there is a piece of software that you can download that is 3.! version.

i have downloaded the piece and runnning the latest revision of firmware on the esc and the latest version of software on the program card that will work with thte esc. but i still do nto understand the MOD bit. anyway.

on my screen i do nto have turbo does anyone know why that s please??
also there is no diffrence on the screen options if i have the sencor cable connected or not.

cheers
levon

hotrodchris 15-07-2012 06:31 PM

Levon you have got to have it plugged into your computer and then go to advanced option and choose the latest mod software, then do your setup and send to the esc and program box!
Hope this makes sence?

cheers m8.

i did all of that. i just did not get the thing of mod software as that part did not make sence.

but i have now run into a huge problem. the little banana thing that the wire gets soldered onto the motor has come off and lost in the grass. now i know it is nto from over heating as i have telemetry on and the over heat protection on and it did not hit the max temp at all.

so i have now jsut sent a email to obby wing to ask them if they can post a few spares off to me.
