Broxtowe wednesday nights off road

Broxtowe Model Car Club held there first mid week off road meeting today on a multisurface track using the permanent tarmac track with astro laid down, jumps, and incorporating some grass. Despite having shite weather all day there was a very good turn out and the rain held off long enough to run practice and nearly 3 rounds of racing. Track was really good despite not being able to use all the available grass due to the wetness. Meetings will be on every wednesday from now so if your looking for some mid week racing then it is definatly worth the visit.

any pics?

telboy 30-04-2008 09:54 PM

what time do they start on a wed?

Spoolio 30-04-2008 09:55 PM

Blimey, I'm surprised the rain held off. Over our office in Mansfield its been pretty torential most of the time since lunch, so I didn't bother schlepping down for a look-see at the track. Soz.

dbizzle5 30-04-2008 09:56 PM

No pics unfortunatly. Gates open at 6pm Tel with racing under way by about 7ish.

RSharpy 30-04-2008 10:01 PM

No pics, will take a video next week.

Gates open at 6, think racing got under way for about 7 or just before, can't remember the adsact time was to busy eating my supper.

RSharpy 30-04-2008 10:03 PM

Old Bizzle beat me to it again...:woot::woot::woot:

Robbiejuk 01-05-2008 08:18 PM

Started about ten to seven as thats when I went home :)

The track looked good and is well worth going for some mid week racing. I will be there next week

So what was the tyre wear like then guys?

RSharpy 01-05-2008 09:00 PM

Rob, tyre wear was heavy tbh but they didn't use the large grass area in the centre of the track due to it being to wet. When we are able to use that part on sunny summer evenings (fingers crossed) it should cut down on having to use as much tarmac.

Its never going to be ideal from a tyre wear point of view but it is ideal for a bit of mid week practice.

PS nice one for the shell, looks all good mate

Robbiejuk 01-05-2008 09:19 PM

Need to get some Me-or stiuckers done for it :)

I'll be there. Only bringing the B4 though, can't find time to rebuild the Durga's rear diff (after Mr Brooks did some "stress-testing" at the last indoor round).

Might have 5 minutes ragging the Mini round too

nice video mate shame you only perfect shot of my car going round the sweeper was when i missed the jump by sneaking up the inside :woot:

RSharpy 22-05-2008 10:04 AM

I don't know John, missing the ramp, you wouldn't catch me doing a thing like that! :woot:

Have had a thought in regards of tyre wear, there is very little tarmac on the infield (if any) but it seems to be the straight thats the killer. A question for Alan, Andy, Johno or somebody from the club who racers up at Greasly and may be in the know. Is there a old role of carpet knocking about? If we could have a role on the straight it would make the track a lot more freindly on tyres. ;)

Robbiejuk 22-05-2008 12:13 PM

Of course we could just rip up the tarmac and astroturf it all

While I think about it has anybody got any pictures from the club nights that we can put up on the site?

dbizzle5 22-05-2008 02:53 PM

Felicty!! Ow Felicity!!!:wub

ianplimmer 22-05-2008 06:47 PM

i have some nice shots rob, ill sort them out later mate

if when you start your runs you dont start on the edge of the astroturf to be closer to the loop then wheelspin all the way down the start straight on the first lap is a major factor every other lap you are at half speed
if you start a bi further back it may help

RSharpy 28-05-2008 07:15 PM

John, I agree that starting further back may help a bit but think doing 20 laps just on the straight is killer enough. A role of carpet or more astro really would solve all.

And I can't help but feel if the straight was covered and if more track markings were used the track would be more than good enough to hold a regional on it. (please note this is only an opinion and not an offical word, last time I said this there were rumours going around that the regional was being held on it ) Do others agree?

langers 28-05-2008 09:40 PM

one of the problems is that after there last run most drivers make a sharp exit and the astro is heavy
ill be the first to say i could do more but its a long day when you have a physical job and the idea of running the track was for the ease of set up and pack away
dont get me wrong with more astro we would have more track options and less tyre wear but its down to us to put in the effort if we want it as its the members club eg members at work parties
